How do I properly fly the P-51D?
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in Bugs and Problems
Pretty much my feel, and, probably against more unexperienced pilots, I have had luck in low turning fight too... -
Why does the plane veer right on t/o
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to erjdriver's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
I guess it is the wind from your right .... As you get airborne, you easo on the additional application of left rudder to overcome it, and also the aircraft weathervanes ... ( right in this case ). -
109 using only trim, rudder and propeller pitch.

Excellent Thread! We need tis sort of threads more often - gives me something a LOT more worth spending my time with this extraordinamy sims other than playing War... -

Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to Sporg's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Yep, I believe that's the one, plus another one with a dc-10, with similar scenario. I'll try to do it in the 109 :-) Thx! -
Looks great! Only thing I wouldn't do your way is the shallow path - this is due to being a glider pilot and preferring to arrive high at the final... Also give you some more alternatives in case of engine failure, and in the 109 gives you better visibility ahead, before starting the flare...

Engine defect shortly after takeoff
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to KansasCS's topic in Bugs and Problems
Not really a waste of time, but a very important detail which escaped me for a long time, although thanksfully the Servers I used to fly at all ha their 109s with the MW selector in the correct ( up ) position by default :-) But if one assigns a joystick button / lever to that function and inadvertedly switches the selector, then it's good to know, where it is ( next to the tailwheel lock mechanism, and can even be mistakenly used because of that ) in the left side panel of the cockpit, above the flaps and trim wheels. -
Engine defect shortly after takeoff
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to KansasCS's topic in Bugs and Problems
Then, there is yet another possibility... Since the MW50 get's filled proportionally to the ammount of fuel loaded into your tanks, if you takeoff with, say, just 10% fuel, in 5 min you will have emptied the MW50 tank, and if you're using higher power settings you will "burn" your engine :-) -
Show me your mad dogfight skills (FW190D9 Version)
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to super_baloo's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
I remember a combat like that one I had yesterday at the ACG server :-) I was in the p51d, and climbing above was really my advantage, until I got so invilved in the aerial dogfight that I didn't notice a 2nd supporting fw190 was approching the scene ... -

Reminds me of an exercise we play with Aerowinx PSX, trying to reproduce a RW emmergency where only engines and the ailerons are operational ( partially ) after a catastrophic failure, and the 747-400 must be landed that way :-) Great work and pilloting skills! Congrats! -

Maybe you forgot to set the prop governor to Auto ? -
The weight of the MW tank, filled with either MW50 or B4 fuel DOES AFFECT the flight dynamics in the present version, AND, the Moderator statted, in this thread, that it's probably due to a bug in the present ME ( Mission Editor ) that we can't properly see it displayed there. But all of my tests give positive signs of the weight in that tank having very noticeable impact on the aircraft performance ( starting with a pitching up moment... ), and I am using the pitch curves suggested in another thread to overcome not being possible to set the elevator trim tab. I believe one of the next patches will fix the Mission Editor too.
-
When the power is low, the absence of prop effects to counter results in the trim settings, plus "negative torque" from the prop being also forced by the relative flow, to actually result in right rolling and yawing tendencies for an aircraft with a CW rotating prop and it's trims set for equilibrium in cruise... It's OK
-
If you're looking, from the outside, for the elevator trim tab, it'll move "opposite" of what you set, and that's correct.. Trim nose heavy, means the elevator must be forced down, hence the trim tab will move up, and trim tail heavy, the elevator will be forced up, hence the trim tab will deflect down ...

Yes, last update was mistakenly announced as suggesting it was for the stable version. If applied by command lien to that version it'll revert the version to open beta branch. Some servers ( including ACG ) will not be up on the beta branch, so, will not be visible. Revert back - using command line again - to the last 1.5.3 stable version.

New Great ww2 server with "111" in the name ( ? )
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS 2.9
But I didn't see that server up again yesterday :-( There is at least one ww2 server with multiple bases, some of them further appart. -
I read somewhere that the tail fin added to later models of the p51, designed to overcome some yaw instability problems, also made snap-rolls a lot more difficult to execute. Anyway, due to it's considerable inertia, a snap-roll in the p51 will certainly necver look like that one in the Extra 300 - one of the only reasons I really liked to play Aerofly FS :-)

Auto updater doesn't download DCS 1.5.3.51171
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to fitness88's topic in DCS 2.9
Thx guys! -
Nope, for takeoff, pull your stick all the way back until around at least 150km/h, then slowly release to neutral. It doesn't require as much foot work as the K4. It can takeoff in tricycle mode. Land: only three wheels.

Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to fitness88's topic in DCS 2.9
But I believe I can still upgared from astable version to this one, forcing the update through a "DOS" command line interpreter ? At least "blaueente" above shares this though :-) Thx! blaueente ;-) -

Question: My version is also 1.5.3.50487. If I use the line command as suggested in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030 and run: DCS_updater.exe update 1.5.3@openbeta I can update to the latest version released yesterday, but I am updating to a beta branch, from a stable version... Any problem with this ? -

Last update finally adds the MW and B4 weight to the aircraft TGW :-)

Yesterday night I found a new server for ww2 aircraft... it's named something ending in 111 ? It has two or three active airbases with 109s, Doras and Ponies, including TF51s, and also many ground targets. There are also a few modern strategic bombers :-) but heck, could be the UFOs during ww2 :-) Had a great time, although most of the time flying the p51d, not because I like it but rather because I like the challenge of learning to use it... The 109 and the 190 are so harmonious and easy to fly and combat with that from time to time I really have to go for a challenge, and, for the time being, and there being no other ww2 fighters available yet, the p51d is my only way to go. From mission to mission I'm getting a bit better with my hand and situational awareness, and learning to get the most out of the fewer ( IMHO ) advantages of flying p51s instead of the K-4 or D-9 ... We desperately need the Spitfire :-)

1) Do you have random failures on ? 2) Are you using a reduced fuel load ( say 50 % or less in the Load menu ), because MW50 is now loaded proportionally to the amount of fuel loaded, and if you run out of it and are still using "boost" power settings, you will kill your engine sooner or latter... 3) And... there is always a time limit ( it's stated on the 190 Manual, but I do not recall it right now... ) in minutes to use those top power settings ( continuously )...

Thx!
