Ok, but I don't have tac view ? What's that ?
-
Interesting you mention that because yesterday night as I logged in and saw many stangs and 109s logged, I chose stang, and couldn't even get off the airbase. Permament straffing. I killed in a series either starting up, taxxing or during the takeoff roll... Whewn I managed ( twice ) to actually get airborne, it looks like some of the AAA still responded but probably the 19s and 190s simply destroyed the AAA, one by one ? At least that's what I thought might have happened, unless there's realçly something wrong with the mission script ?

How similar is the K4 to the G10 or G14
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to TheJay15's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
fastfreddie, can you ellaborate more on this one ? -
I was soooo focused on that foe :-) Thx!

Hi scotch....! At least more often than at our "X" sim :-) I actually couldn't start it again since becoming a true addict of DCS et al... :-) I've offered my Nevada license to a friend, who will give better use to it - same for the Mig-21 - and will concentrate in the Caucasus Map while the Normandy isn't available - that will be my main aim when announced... Caucasus will suffer further updates to make it fully 2.0 ( EDGE ) compatible I belive. If collidable trees are going to be added to Caucasus I really don't know, but I would certainly welcome it if it doesn't act hard on my fps... Seeing the guy in front of me escaping through the tree tops and into them is not the best of the experiences :-/

Excellent footage! How do you record it ( what software do you use ) ? Sometimes although still preferring mostly vertical dogffight, the AI sim to be more cleaver than they were before...

Playing with Density Altitude due to Cold / Hot air...
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS 2.9
Yes, but please note that I always set QNH = 760, so, indeed the "jump" in the altimeter read is due to DA and not only PA. At the denser air mass, both ground and a given level ( geopotential ) can have the same pressure reads ( say, 760 and 690), and the same in a hot less dense air mass will naturally correspond to the a higher absolute altitude ( or height above ground level to simplify...) Unfortunately, and just to name a couple, MSFS, P3D, X-Plane all calculate air density, but the pressure "lapse rate" is unchanged, so, you can be in the hotest of the days, with a given QNH and your altimeter set for it, climb and feel the effects of the less dense air, corresponding sometimes to a much higher altitude, but when your altimeter reads 1500m or feet, that will be you true altitude ( height ) as well, the same you will get on a cold winter situation... In AEROWINX PSX ( the 744 sim ) it's inetersting to test this effect on very cold days if you're flying a VNAV approach ( using a "VNAV glideslope" ). What none of the sims considers ( exception being ELITE, Flight Gear's Advanced weather mode and Aerowinx PSX, I believe also Flightdeck A3xx by Airlinetools ) is the effect of moist in air density. I tried to notice differences between situation with all rest being equal less the supposed T / Td proportion, and the readings are the same in our altimeters, also in DCS ... But heck! it already does a lot more than other sims I've used :-) -
So, it's mostly due to online lag! Great to know! In some occasions the lag effects are evident, that's for sure. Overall I also notice a bit lower medium fps on my system with the latest 1.5.3, even having lowered the settings. Instead of a stable 60 fps I sometimes visit the high twenties.... but at the ACG Bloodandsummer/winter server, still very payable :-) I miss an "instantaneous" duel / furbal server, where we can choose to respawn already airborne and ready for combat :-)

I can't think that any factors affecting the modules performance are in any way related to bias / balance - this looks like complete nonsense to me. What I do think is that sometimes there appears to be some lack of coordination between internal fixed items and what becomes available for the next builds of the sim, resulting in some confusion, misinterpretation of what is actually supposed to be fixed / identified as need to be fixed, or not considered as a bug / limitation. I did have the sensation that some changes ( mostly for better ) sometimes occurred with them being in sync with the published list of items for a given aircraft module and release. A good example was my experience landing the P51d, my first ever DCS module, and it's huge tendency to ground loop on landing... I am almost sure it wasn't "just my practice" with the PC hardware I bought to play these simulation games at home, that made the difference, but rather that there were actually changes to the aircraft that made it a lot more plausible under / controllable under such circumstances...

"From High to Low Watch Out Bellow!!! " applies to both pressure AND temperature, although in most sims only the pressure side is correctly modeled... Today I set up a test to figure out if the weather model in DCS calculates the temperature side of the "from high to low" adagio... Picking a default mission ( tf51 quick start free flight ) I dragged my tf 51 d towards the mountainous regions of the Caucasus and started the situation at 11,000 feet until I was at the right spot ( between some mountain peaks, flying across a valley ). I then set the season to SUMMER, temperature to a hot +35ºC ( ISA + 20 ) and the standard pressure 760 mmHg. Went flying and had to climb for a while to align my altimeter with 11,000 feet, noticing that I was a little above the mountain peaks... Then I set the same flight with WINTER season and ISA -35 ( -20C ), same pressure ( standard 760 mmHg ) and went flying again... The aircraft starts it's flight at the exact same height - HEIGHT - but the altimeter was now showing way above 14000 feet, and I then initiated a descent to get to indicated altitude of 11000 feet, but before I got there I smashed into the mountains... So, indeed density of the colder air masses and the lower geopotential height are modelled in DCS!!! Of course density is also calculated in almost all flight simulators, but for instance in FSX and X-Plane, if you keep trhe surface pressure equal, and just vary the temperature and Season, you will be at the very same barometric ( read in the altimeter ) altitude and height above ground level. Mountains are a good reference point. Very few sims model the "shrink" of the troposphere with the cold / denser Winter air... Non military flight simulators taht also model this effect are Flight Gear and Aerowinx PSX, as well as ELITE, just for the sake of curiosity :)

Kurfurst fuel gauge, fuel tank and manual
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to brennus54's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
I believe it was told by the devs that, at least in the Fw190 the amount filled into the MW50 tank is proportional to the amount of fuel loaded in the mission. -
Question is, in my case using a NVidia GF 960, is there an advantage in using windowed mode instead of full-screen, when running, as I do, DCS in the native PC resolution of 1920 x 1080 ?

Reminds me of yet another "problem" with the pitch trim setting when we use the engine start cheat (R-ALT HOME), and when it get's to the moment of setting pitch trim it says it's 2º nose down but actually moves the pitch trim wheel a lot more....
-
Although we know, from our RL experience that in some aircraft, weird and really embarrassing tail bumps can happen and ruin an otherwise great day of thermalling :-) Anyway, when I started the thread I ws exactly referring to that observation of yours, but ever since I posted the thread and tried again to reproduce what was easy to reproduce in previous versions, I couldn't, under any circumstance including a wide range of fuel and amno loads. Only thing I didn't yet do was using the keyboard as Alla suggests. I have also set my toe brakes to an 80% damped curve...
-
Well, trying to reproduce it this morning, on the latest 1.5.3, I couldn't ? Has it been fixed ? P.S.: Confirmed, and somehow embarrassing because I made the OP... I have tried to get those wild tail wheel jumps / bumps, using all sets of loads, offline, and couldn't reproduce the effect I've been experiencing when taxiing the K4 at the ACG Server BllodAndWinter / BloodAnSummer maps.... ???? Might it be server based ? How / Why ?
-
I hope you can get better, or over it ( your health problem ) as soon as possible Ala13! Having to use a button for toe brakes is difficult, but a friend from India uses exactly the same method, with no rudder pedals, and he is slowly mastering even the Mig-21 :-)
-
Yep - that's exactly it - couldn't find a better way to describe it :-)
-
Yes, and I have adjusted my toe brake curves to minimize it, but that's not the question here. What I meant with the OP is that once it starts bouncing, it behaves in a weird way. The tail jumps at a pace that doesn't seem right, and there's practically no dampening.
-
Under certain circumstances, usually while taxiing in the K-4, and specially when I forget to pull the stick all the way back, it's usual to experience a strange bumpiness when I apply wheel brakes. The tail rises, and a series of tailwheel bounces begins, sometimes diverging towards higher amplitudes, and as if there was no inertia / dampening around the CoR... It starts jumping wildly on it's tail .... Have any of you experienced the same ?

How To Adjust Aileron Trim Within the 2.0.1 OpenAlpha?
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to DieHard's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
I'm fine with the default settings, but I learned that they're apparently server based ? What was really a game changer was the pitch curve kindly remembered by DieHard in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160620 What a difference it made to the general handling of the K4.... I do think that the developers should really consider either making also the elevator trim tab adaptable, or setting it a little tail heavy... -
I agree, and I hope this gets the promised fine tuning for EDGE final, but at least we can "feel it" more plausibly under the circumstances mentioned in the OP :-)
-
I am looking forward for the announced weather tuning that is going to be available with EDGE specially when it comes to wind and turbulence effects, because I've read somewhere this will get an update, including mountain effects! But setting variable winds and turbulence in DCS has always created such mild effects that I don't even notice it, yet, yesterday while logged into a Server I noticed my aircraft was getting some good bouncing from turbulence ??? What was "new" was the presence of a fog / mist layer, and the winds were set at high values. Apparently when fog and storng winds + higher turbulence values are set for a Mission we are actually able to experiment it's effects. Any of you confirm / have experienced the same ?
-
Even the lightness of the controls, at the full speed range, compared to the K4 :-) And yesterady I even experienced the buffeting when approachin Vne in the 109 !!!

[REPORTED]P-51 gun dispersion after shooting and repairs
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to Dirkan's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yep, where else can we find such a nicely moeled P51d ? I use the TF51d. For Combat only the 109 and the 190, and awaiting the Spitfire :-) -
Bf109k4 adjustded drag - 1.5.3
Anatoli-Kagari9 replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
The 109 feels SO GREAT! I don't know if it's the new drag fine tuning, it simply is a true CHARM to fly and combat with :-)
