Complete Transport and Logistics Deployment - CTLD

If a ground unit were to have the name helicargo10, would it be able to drop a radio beacon? -
On the gunner seat, when moving forward with trackir and focusing on the monitor, you'll actually go through the monitor screen and look inside of it :)
-
So, with my first hour in the Gazelle I'm having a lot of fun, dancing the conga again just like in the Mi-8 and the KA50 before that. One thing that struck me was the fact that the pilot blacks out quite suddenly. I don't have a G-meter handy so either its my flying skills and yes, they are sucky at best, or the poor fellow isn't G-hardened. One possible bug was durig a rather hard landing the screen remained black even as I powered the helicopter down.
-
So you can fly with yourself? :)
-
And it won't work in 1.5.3, that'll be patched later by ED, Poly-chop doesn't have any influence on that.
-
The patch for 2.0.2 containing the Gazelle hasn't gone out yet, you'll have to wait a little longer.

We should celebrate the launch with a multiplayer server event!
-
As stated in the other thread, you took my money, now go and party!
-
Shut up and take my money, have a ball Poly-chop guys, drinks are on the house and I hope you get what you deserve for this fine piece of work!

noob education needed here... what can the SA-342M do?
Looney replied to hannibal's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
Why not? See past its limitations and use the gazelle for what the other modules cannot do. The KA50 lack a RWR, the gazelle has one, voila, triangulate position of SAM or Radar unit and have the KA50's attack it. If the KA50 come across lightly defended targets with an engagement range of < 4km, they won't have to waste their valuable Vihkr's and let the Gazelles's take them out while they focus on the unit with an engagement range of < 8km. -
All beside the laser story, a human JTAC can always use a SU-25 for Close Air Support. If it's pre-planned CAS, one can use a geo reference grid, like this one: Other possibilities include smoke or tracer fire to mark targets. We train it a lot with A10c's without TGP performing a low-level pop-up manuouvrer. When the A10 is performing his/her ingress at low-level, the JTAC "paints a picture" using geographical references starting out with a large picture such as "the area has three hills, one to the north and two to the soutwest, the village with a river running from the north to the south lies in between these hills". Then the jtac zooms in with more details such as "a bridge crosses the river in the middle of this village from the north of the east"and even further such as "the target is located to the west of this road but south of the power-lines, marked by red smoke" It is only during this pop-up manuouvrer that they are able to get eyeball mk I on target, not before as they are low-level. The attack is usually performed with high-drag bombs, rockets or guns. It's a hell of a lot of fun to train and do.

What are standard defenses for an airbase?
Looney replied to TheHighwayman's topic in Mission Editor
usually, to defend a high value target (HVT) like an airfield, you'd start by setting up your eyes and ears of the system, e.g. one or two radars that cover far out of the HVT, say 100nm. Think of air defense as multiple umbrellas keeping the rain out, if one fails or is destroyed/bypassed, antoher one takes over. Layered defense or onion rings if you like. Long range SAM-site, protected by short range point defense solutions (strela, SA-15/19, MANPADS) is you first layer and doesn't need to be in the vicinity of the HVT but should have ample radar coverage. After that, try to identify the avenues of approach you think the enemy will take and place smaller ranged radar sam site(s) there. At the HVT, SA-15 to acquire targets and engage at a relative longer range coupled with short range SAMs and MANPADS for point defense. The above mentioned Integrated Air Defense Script will work nicely to support your set-up. -

Which airfield? Russian or US/NATO? which threat level? All-out war, peace-time operation or higher state of alert? -

I believe a number of pickzones are differentiated between red and blue, you might just have picked the wrong pickzone number.. could be wrong though.. -
For helicopters you can also mark with tracers or use a Gridded Reference Graphics map to talk the helicopters on target. An example I made for one of our missions:
-
Well, there is no cargo camera if that's what you're looking for. What is available though, is a cargo indicator. Check the key bindings and you should assign a key to it, if not done already. When requesting and selecting a cargo, when you're near the cargo, press this key combo and in the top right of the screen a "radar" display will show up in green with a red dot depicting your cargo. On the right side, there is vertical position indicator showing the alloweable height band.

I'd say we crowd-fund a shared gazelle to get our hunger satisfied until the Gazelle modules comes out :P
-
Maybe for gameplay purposes, they included some code that can be used between russian units.

How is the aeronautical emergency guard frequency implemented, if at all, in the Mi-8? According to the manual, on page 91, states: An emergency receiver built into the radio set provides standby re-ception of one preset emergency frequency (121.5 MHz or 243 MHz). But how is this implemented? Looking at the .lua files, I could not find to which frequencty the emergency receiver is tuned and the mission editor also comes up empty. In parallel, I'm talking to the developer of Universradio to see if perhaps he knows how to have the Mi-8 behave as the KA50 that reception on the guard frequency can always be heard, regardless of how the radio is set.

As far as I know, both SU25 and KA50 share the Shkval targeting system. This system is unable to track a laser spot as it's purely an optical system. That doesn't mean the SU25 or KA50 can't use their laser to guide a KH25 from the other, just needs to be tested if you ask me. As for the JTAC, maybe it works with a KH25, maybe it doesn't. There have been some laser codes around like 1111 or 1113 or 1033 to try to get the KH25 to guide to the laser spot generated by the human JTAC.

If ED gets multi-crew working so that it can be used by third party developers, I'm pretty sure they'll shout it from the highest tree they can find. As stated before, ED hasn't gotten around to implementing a working system for multi-crew and therefore, the Gazelle can't and won't use multi-crew on release. Maybe later, but not on release. I think ED will need to change others things first such as netcode to implement multi-crew.
