DCS 2.5 and VR (Occulus Rift would be my choice)
Doum76 replied to Doum76's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the replies. As for OC, thats what i read quite a lot, lots of people OC their i7-2600, so i know i can still tweak it a bit if i want a bit better and will still cost me less and wait for future real upgrade. As for WW2, good thing, so far i have no interest in that erra wjem it comes to flight sim, so far, i'm adicted to the Harrier, main item i fly and modern targets, so i'm happy with Nevada and Caucas map. -
Hey guys, Lots of threads on this subjet and on a lot of different forums, some old posts, some recent, but lots of them kinda doesn<t match my exact questionning... I'm planning to do the VR jump (well was planning this for a few years) :) But i was focusing to change/upgrade my RIG for it, GPU, MB, CPU and RAM of course... but here i am now, after a few days after i finaly upgraded my GPU, went from a GTX 760, to a GTX 1070 8g. The change was beyound my imagination, seems like my CPU still does quite well... so as i spoke to the guy at the shop and been looking forums, i ended up with the idea of, getting the Oculus first, see how it goes, if not happy, then upgrade the rest, instead of initial plan tu upgrade all then buy the Oculus. So my main quesiton is, to know if any of you ever had the same settings or still ahve it, and how it deals, but, as i not hardcore gamer point of view or stock CPU, no overcloking, found quite a few threads with the same settings, but OCed, i wanna to know by curiosity how it goes stock... As for both Oculus and HTC Vive, both applicaiton make sme pass recommended or better, exept the CPU which gives a minimum or better. But i wanna have the feeling of normal gamer, not people addicted to high ends CPU and RIG that for him, 100 FPS and less is crap, but more normal people, as to see if i can run it for a while until replacing all core items. So some idea of what FPS is good in VR general and what this settings might give you some of you guys as a reference. So here's my setting. Asus P8P67 PRO (REV 3.1) (which has some USB 3.0 ports) i7-2600k 3.4g 16 g RAM (DDR3 1867) EVGA GTX 1070 8g Win 10 and DCS 2.5 Runing on SSD's Any feedback appreciated, but again i don'T wana any hardcore gamer feedback that for them below 50 FPS with screen only is unaceptable. :)

As i read and seen, but the main thing is, working or not, playing around with those options, does affect that bug, and for now i wanna point that bug out to avoid it then after that i'll thing about the AA to be honest. I love flying in and out of the carrier and bugs :) I'm not a computer tech so, trouble shooting something kinda requires me ltos of changes :) But you made me realise that maybe having some AA set in nVidia might be causing conflict.... EDIT: You made me wanna test leaving Nvidia AA at OFF, went in DCS, MSAA and Anist. in DCS on, had the bugg, turned them both off than no more issues, left game and back in, and the bug was back, unable to reproduce it alaways at 100%... will be a hard damn bug tough to fix for them, but i guess i give up :)

Hey guys! Well here i am agian with some tests for you who has the effect, i decided to treat myself yesterday with a small Easter present, decided to grab a new monitor to replace my 6 yrs old one and most, finaly replaced my old GTX760 for a GTX1070... So no need to say yesterday and last night was an avalenche of tests going on to see what i liekd most as quality and performence. :) My main test were, hoping in the AV-8B while on the tarawa as it was my main references as FPS wise cuz that's where i flew most of the tie lately, lvoe the Carrier :) But most test were, hope in game, see FPS and Graphics effect, quit to desktop, adjust etc.. i didn't always started the bird or move the nozzle, so all was looking fine, most of the time i was taking off from ground to see landscape settings... all that said, hope in this morning for a flight taking of from the carrier, and bam, effect is back this morning which haven'T seen yesterday cuz it was off until i changed my graphic card... So decided to ran a few test, not in depth but stil.. who ever has some issue, might try this out.. so far what i found is: In game settings: MSAA and Anistropic seted to maxed for each, so 8x and 16x then what i realised is, tried a few times. in Nvidia, when AA setped to Ovveride application and seted to 2x and MFAA on, the effect is there, if i turn MFAA off, no effect, i then turned MFAA back on, effect was there, returned it off, effect still but way way way dimed. Then i kept MFAA off, turned of AA in Nvidia so application treat it's own from it'S settings, effect is there... went back in Nvidia, put back AA application ovveride, with 2x, and again effect gone... so as a recap on my side. Nvidia AA: Ovveride Application Nvidia MFAA: On Issues on Nvidia AA: Ovveride Application Nvidia MFAA: Off Issues off Nvidia AA: Off and let DCS deal with it Nvidia MFAA: Off Issues on I didn'T as i said, went in depth, could have tried to see if enhance does it or set in nVidia same as in game same AA, but for now i'll stay as is, enough tests in 2 days, just try to see does few settings. BTA i have AA Transperency 2x (supersample) on EDITED : :) Nvidia AA: Enhance Application Nvidia MFAA: Off Issues on EDITED-EDITED: Forget my post, seems after trying last Enchanced settings, issue gets back even with ovveride which was fine the test before... weird bug whiich reproduces and not after trying out same settings ot tests... seems like a morphing bug and evolves like a cough or cold and adjusts itself :PPP Just turned FXAA of in Nvidia and effect is gone once more. EDIT-EDIT-EDIT :) Final setting which is fine and i don'T touch it anymore. Nvidia AA: Overide Application Nvidia AA Set: 8x (was fine with 2x as well) Nvidia MFAA: Off Nvidia FXAA: Off Issues off Seems when ever FXAA and MFAA are on and we let DCS deals with AA, problems occurs, just that the tons of combinaiton possible between nvdia and DCS makes test hard, but so far, i leave FXAA and MFAA off and let nvidia control the AA.

That's what i would had expected, since there is gonna lots of changes between both Variant. Even as is right now, the N/A it's my favorite module ever in all Flight Sims i'Ve tried, i love this bird so much that i'm gettting to like droping ordonance which wasn't much of my things before. :) I love Mid Air Refueling, Naval Aircraft... you give me a bird that i can take off loaded from ground, drop fireworks on bad guys, rendez-vous with a Tanker and refuel, drink from the bottle a little bit, then head home to land on a carrier.. add to this the possibility to have 4 different style of take-offs and landings.... well, just awesome, to learn and master.... as i said, The Hornet was my most anticipated module ever since i discovered DCS in early 2010's and was dreaming of that plane to come in DCS, but since i discovered the AV-8B last month, i want the hornet to take is time now to get out :) Razbam does an awesome works on all products the do.

Greetings guys, Here i am, finaly with a new graphic card to replace my old 760. Still old MB and old i7-2660, but the changes in performance is beyound what i expected, guess i'll wait ti i change the MB/Processor/Ram :) My question is, what are you guys settings, DCS+Nvidia control panel wise, as for, best looking, not performance, so far i went from 25 FPS with medium settings, no mirrors, no shadow, more or less Anti-Aliasing and some low settings, to, full settings, mirror, shadows now to 65-70 FPS which i can live with, so i wanna see how you guys end up with nice graphics, i'm so lost as usual as settings specialy in Nvidia control settings... i wanna try to get the most best looking i can with my old rig, with it's new monitor and graphic card.

Heard/Read in upcoming future we might get the Variant with Radar and AIM-120 as for A2A, the AV-8B Harrier II Plus i presume... we'll see if they model it.
-
Sorry to hear that :( Works for me and thought it might be working for everyone. EDIT: well can<t even test anything tonight, for some reasons i ca<T even get the issue to occurs tonight, it doesn<t do it, even when starting on Tarawa... weird, no problem at all tonight
-
Not sure if the issue is DCS related since last patch or AV-8B related, but just in cases off, will post here as well as it was on Razbam section just in cases of, issue might be happening with other aircraft, but since i mostly only fly this one and it's easier to spot with it's nozzle able to go vertical it's easier to spot and repeat the process. Since last patch, we found out that we get some weird smoke effect/dust coming out the ground with the AV-8B when nozzle were down to 60deg+. See vid here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQwT_KnFtfU After 2 days ago i found out by mistake a leading path to the issue, at first people were going for the mod issue but even then was tough to replicate the issue, so i found out by mistake that the issue occurs when hovering below 80 ft over the water, so when on the Tarawa deck since we are more or likely 50ft over the sea it happens, as if the Tarawa collision is on for land and take off on, butt is invisible to some stuff... Not sure if it's ED related or Razbam since maybe ED are working on a new dust ground effect.. so for now what i found out that reproduce the issue is, using the AV-8B (but as i said, maybe it would happens using any other fixed wing and going vertical from that altitude, but i don't fly anymore other birds until Hornet comes out :)); 1- Cold Start from Ground : No issues 2- Hot Start from Ground : No issues 3- Cold Start from Tarawa deck: Issue occurs 4- Hot Start from Tarawa : Issue occurs So until it's fixed if you wanna avoid the issue, don'T start from the Tarawa and you'll be able to do carrier ops without smoke/dust effect issues Two threads on the subjet: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=204908&page=4 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=205070

As mentionned in the otehr thread concerning the issue: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=204908&page=4 Here's what i found out by mistake by folling around my mission to traint out all 4 take-offs. Issue occurs when flying 80ft and less over the water, so stading on the Tarawa deck leaves you 50ft over the sea, but what triggers the issue is: 1- Cold Start from Ground : No issues 2- Hot Start from Ground : No issues 3- Cold Start from Tarawa deck: Issue occurs 4- Hot Start from Tarawa : Issue occurs So until it's fixed if you wanna avoid the issue, don't start from the Tarawa and you'll be able to do carrier ops without smoke/dust effect issues
-
I just did the test tonight and confirm on my side, on each of the 4 scenario when flying in an almost hover over the sea between 10-60 ft for the test: (as for those who says it's mods, all i am running as mods are liveries and AV-8B sound pack, liveries are loaded through OVGME loading them in the saved game directory while the sound mods are loading also with OVGME but inside DCS direct folder) 1- Cold Start from Ground : No issues 2- Hot Start from Ground : No issues 3- Cold Start from Tarawa deck: Issue occurs 4- Hot Start from Tarawa : Issue occurs So until it's fixed if you wanna avoid the issue, don'T start from the Tarawa and you'll be able to do carrier ops without smoke/dust effect issues :)

Well so far i'Ve found a way to reproduce it by mistake, has nothing to do with mods i think, what i found is, if, starting on the Tarawa with a parked Harrier and start as Parking HoT and already ready to rock n roll, it does it, if i start on the Tarawa as Cold Start, it's doing it as well. If i started hot from runway, landed on the Tarawa, no issues , same when i take off from Cold at an airfield. I presume this thread copied/link to DCS 2.5 bugs might be helpful. Maybe you guys try it out on your side and see if it does the same. Actualy found out, it happpend when hovering below 80 FT over the water, so on the carrier deck you are at 50 ft. Only thing i haven'T time to try is, if it does it with a Harrier starterd from cold on an airfield and hover the water to see if it does it. If thats the case, i'm just wondering if ED are working on a ground effect dust and it goes through the Tarawa as is, it wasn't take into consideration as and objet over the sea.

From what i'Ve read when i bought the AV-8B a ferw weeks ago and after 2.5 came out, the reason stuff in cockpit are blurred with NVG it's because they made it as RL NVG set to « infinity », resulting blurred close and sharp at a distance.

DS Turned off does indeed fixes some issues as you mentionned so it does also with the FlashLight, but remember not to set any clouds on, or it'll be the uglyest things ever....
-
sad, tracks plays de-synchronised on my side :( prac3, you crash right on takeoff.
-
Say thank you to the F-15's posing with a smile at Nellis on picture i found as reference :)
-
wow, Subs17 is a name i haven't seen since a long time ago, back then in FSX working on effect and Hud for the Hornet. Glad to see you'Re still flying :)

Honestly i just did another flight and watched it, first in cockpit i see nothing unless i start looking back, looking ahead i see nothing, second, i start looking at it on F2 view, from far and got to say the effect it does, really, really, reminds me the behavior of vapor vortex from Hornets but mostly SuperHornet you see on airshow videos or any videos when temperature is humid... i wounder if they are working on an effect for the hornet.... This is a vid a few seconds i've made, and whatch the second video of a vortex, might jsut be pure coincidence, but seem like a pre-achieved effect, tune it down a little and less intence and.... or i am just dreaming the Hornet will have some kick ass effect. :) Second video it starts around 11 seconds. Nice Picture Hornet81, looks like your carrier is closing in speed of sound and having a SuperHornet vortex On a serious note, it does it to me too, but on a way less improtant way, Heat Blur at High, only liveries mods and Harreir sound pack, just reminds me the dust on ground effect with the Huey, wounder if they are trying to add the effect with the Harrier as well and comes in a bit too high on some people's end.

Hey guys, Just done my livery package, medium weathered, pilot, RoughMet mappings included. Low-Visibility is base don the CF-188, the Camo pattern on early 90's USN AV-8B. All camo color combinations based on mostly RAF, RCAF, USAF and USN. Hope you like them. Here's the links for the 3 part package. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3233581/ https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3233737/ https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3233775/ Cheers.

Didn't know, got back in DCS a few weeks ago and even when goggling it i couldn't anything about AP :(
-
AP is implemented yet?

Not sure if i understand exactly what you mean, but .DDS are flattenened file format, it doesn't support/containt layers, just 1 layer/background and Alpha Channels.
