  1. Hi all, Did some searching and couldn't find any thing relevant, so I deceided to ask a question to those "in the know". Obviously the cannon on our soon to be new toy is'nt as controllable as something like, for example, the Cobra's, Apache's or Havok's (having one less aircrew would probably account for this). But I am assuming the cannon does have some elevation control (and a little laterl, but on to starboard?). I think I have read it can deflect a little, but not much. Is this correct? If the cannon can therefore move, how do we (as pilots) control the cannon? Is the cannon slaved to the TDC on the Hud, and the cannon tracks the target as the tagret/weapon platform moves? So in essence we can move the aiming point using a hat control etc? Or is it more like the gun pods, weher we lock onto a target using the targetting camera, and then the cannon is slaved to that aim point? Just curious, cheers.
  2. A misspelt adaptive warhead, one assumes.
  3. To answer your question Wedge, very simply speaking: Flares are hot, and as such may make the incoming infra red go after the flare instead of your hot engines. Chaff are small strips of metal (or metal fibres) and confuse/scatter radar returns. Hence they confuse radar homing missiles. This is very basicly speaking, but that is generally the case. Flares to decoy IR missiles, chaff to decoy radar homing missiles.
  4. and a very nice conga line right at the end, those crazy ruskies...
  5. A good defrag and plenty of free space on the main HDD also gives a boost.
  6. The last I heard, it was going to be a one shot wonder. No reloads, like a LAW launcher of sorts. By the way, its maximum rate of fire is said to be 1 million rounds per minute, it doesnt carry that much ammo though. I used to be able to run the 100m in 13 seconds. I couldn't run a 1km in 130 seconds. (not xactly a relevant comparison, but you get the idea)
  7. I remeber seeing a documentary of it on TV about 4-5 years ago, pretty impressive. They planned it to be used on tanks to destroy incoming shells/missiles. Makes a very weird noise when it is fired.
  8. SATA drives wont be a problem (many of us including me) use them with no problems. I don't see also why you would expect starforce to stop you burning CDs either. Obviously if you are burning and pirating CDs then hopefully you PC will die, but starforce will only be protecting flaming cliffs not monitoring all your other actions on the PC (well, it better not be..).
  9. There was/is the predator model...
  10. I have just sent my Gigabyte (passive cooling) 6800 GT back for warranty repair (looks like the memory overheated - no OC'ing either). It kills not being able to fly (had to borrow a crappy MX4000 from work). I was a great card, dont let this put you off. Will your budget stretch to a 7800 or 7900?
  11. Sounds like something I have been wishing all sims did in the first place, make you learn how to fly before getting behind the world's best fighter aircraft with no tuition. I have longed for a sim to make you start basic flight trg on a duel control prop aircraft, the slowly build you up to PPL standard, then on to a bigger/faster aircraft etc. If only they streamed you during trg as well, heaven. "You are going to C-130 flight trg, you cant handle a Hornet and so on". Can only fly online what you are qualified in single player.... plus a persistant multiplayer..... all dreams... but if only.
  12. 504 are pretty good with decent missions and a semi useful brief. No to the gunzo only dogfights (no to just dogfights also).
  13. I would imagine not, since the major focus is just on the Black Shark. Likewise, when the su25T came out in FC, only that aircraft (and its very close relative the 25) got the advanced flight model upgrade. So I doubt (99% sure) that the current models will not get hands (and will also not get 6 DOF cockpits - a shame I know).
  14. Thanks, but it is great how I can remember a key stroke in a game, a key stroke that I used once when Lockon first came out. But I can't remember I needed to get a report on my bosses desk first thing in the morning.... memory, it's a funny thing.
  15. Use the Key pad, with shift etc. Not going to be easy, quick or glamourous, but I imagine you will be able to do it. Me, I will be happy thrashing my head around with a silly hat on.
  16. Well, that is more like an update on a previous tech demo that came out ages ago. (The demo that persuaded me top buy a TIR)
  17. Shift +J, I think is by default the "jitters". It adds the randomo camera movements. (From memory)
  18. I dont beleive it.... my video card has fried (currently trying to get Gigabyte to replace it under the 3 year warranty as it is only 6 months old). Its painful enough not being able to fly, but now you announce you are bringing back the A2G days.... this can't be happening.
  19. Aerobatics, not acrobatics (I was expecting to see a national squad of ladies in fancy lycra jumping aroound).
  20. Reflections in graphics settings deals with this.
  21. The ALARM was a lot more expensive than HARM. HARM was good for retail, the ALARM wasnt popular due to the cost. No sales, no profits, no longer in use (although the RAF do have a stockpile to last a while).
  22. Are these increases in FPS just perceived increases, or are they actual provable increases (i.e. not just people wishing and beleiveing it increases fps?)
  23. It can be left on, and it really needs a few minutes to heat up to operating use (i.e. unlike ECM you cant turn it on and it instantly works). I don't think this is modelled though, and to be honest I have not noticed any really difference with being shot at with it on or off. Remember though, the A-10 was not designed and is not used for SEAD, so by putting it up agains a Kub, you are at a big disdvantage. Use ground masking, ECM, countermeasures and beaming the best you can to creep up to the target, then pop up over the terriagn, fire and run, get into a position that will hopefully mean the missile has no direct route to get you (easy in hills, hard on the plains). Another great tip is to configure your mouse to control the TDC cursor. This gives you very precise control of the target piper, and allows you to designate in at least 1/5th the time in takes with the hat etc. With advanced haze, and zoomed out cockipt, you can see small specs of black in the distant, these are units shimmering in sunlight etc. You can use this to roughly know where units are. Beware of units in the field on their own - likely to be some kind of air defence.
  24. Why Codemasters? OFP developers have broken links with them, if you want true partnership, don't go through the publishers, link with the developers.
  25. Mk 1 eyeball in lockon at the moment. There are ways to see the targets, shimmering, from a distance, almost cheating, almost as bad as having labels on.
