  1. That has been shown to be a myth though hasn't it? The shape of the hull is not designed for sidewards motion. Rock, more than likely, slip through the water sidewards, doubtful. EDIT: Quick link http://www.navweaps.com/index_tech/tech-022.htm
  2. Asphalt, you are lucky. The airfield I live near to is grass only. Make for a bumpy landing. But you certainly know when you are airborne, no bumps and a bit quieter.
  3. You guys are assuming she was at a populated airfield with ATC. Since the OP quoted someone using unicom, the chances are it was an unmanned airfield - i.e. no ATC meaning no clearance. In that case the pilot has to declare their intentions on radio, and people in the area are listening on the same frequency. Similar to TS in lockon, people say they are landing taking off on runway xxx, no ATC assigns them, they just decalre their intentions, and other pilots must keep aware of what other people are doing. This is generally what happens on unicom - and is how/why the other guy "got on the unicom and spoke to her". Not all airfields are run like JFK or Heathrow with approach/departure/ground/tower frequencies with full time staff. I live 2 miles away from one of these such airfields, so far today, good weather, only one aircraft took off. Not got my scanner turned on, but generally pilots just end up talking to themselves.
  4. When you say qualified, you really talking about PPL? And not one obtained in FS2004?
  5. You assume wrong. Sort of.... I was big into falcon, loved setting up the controls weapon release params etc. But when I tried the 25T, and flying online, no going back. Flying with TIR in lockon, somehow sits better with me than F4AF. Just becuase people fly lockon, doesnt mean that they can't handle the avionice of a clickable pit. Yeah I would say probably 80% + will use the one button startup for the KA50, but we are not all dumb... mostly. As GG said, after an hour or so, I am sure it will become natural. But mastering the FM, that will take time (controlling it will take a little time, mastering will take longer)
  6. They tired themselves out making those 2 videos 2-3 weeks ago. I guess having a developer work on programming is better than setting him to make some nice video/screenshots for a day or so. It will be here soon enough, waiting is half the fun :)
  7. I bet you get funny looks though walking around town with the vector clip on your head though.
  8. Also ensure you can do basic things like a) full start up (not exactly hard in lomac) b) Take off without crashing c) Land without crashing d) Know the difference between taxi way and runway (suprising how many dont) e) Know how to use your weapons, and how to load them up. It amazes me how many times I am in a server and people ask, "why when I start up my 25T all the dials read 0".
  9. Ok, just wondering what the reason, if you want any coding doing, drop me a line, I may be able to help. (although I do know how hard it is to let a project get into someone elses hands).
  10. Just think of the current drop in FPS with current flares, now scale that up. Doesn't bear thinking about. I suppose it will do it's job though, and protect ground units from attack, only becuase the pilots get 1 fps and end up crashing.
  11. The film was Minority Reports, thanks to google. I can certainly see those robots being used for defence purposes quite soon (instead of dogs, get robots to patrol, then controllers can see what is going off, also for house clearance, sort of exploding dogs)
  12. It is like how they control the computers in that Tom Cruise film I can't remember the name of (it is where he works for police and they arrest people before they commit crimes, becuase 3 people in a water bath have weird visions). Anyway, he controls things by waving hands around, doesnt look that much different. With things liek that and robotics like this : http://www.mojoflix.com/Video/Robotic-Dog.html The World in the next 10 years is going to be an interesting place (provided the Middle East dont get too carried away).
  13. I bet the USA wished it was that price. Not one of the F22 fanbois, but it is old news anyway. I imagine nearly all airframe types have had similar problems, canopy control mechanism freeze etc. All part of the "Beta" testing stage, just slightly embarrasing this was released to the public. If I were head of the programme, I would quickly like to find out which muppet got out his digital camera and took photos then sent them to the press. Just shows how easy it is to take photos of this stuff and pass them on... wonder how many inside and more detailed photos have been taken by the technicians for "personal" use.
  14. It is funny how people beleive what they want to beleive. No wonder con men are still around.
  15. Don't forget the "ECM on" in startup procedures also... after all these years I have been getting it wrong. :) They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well isnt a video (at 20fps) worth (by definition) 20 pictures per second.... if thats any reasoning, those videos are the screenshots for the next couple of months.
  16. :suspect:  :ermm: :dontgetit: Don't know what to say really...
  17. No doubt its been done before, even BF2 has is as well as OFP. The problem is, not at th emoment with the current engine in its state. The previous games were built groun dup with multiplayers ver vehicle. I don;t think this is the case for lockon. Perhaps in lockon MkII, whatever form that may take.
  18. You tease you.... or is it that the KGB might come after you waving an NDA? I would very much love to see the Gr7 come into play in lockon (pilotable of course with vector thrust). And I suppose at a push we could deal with the AV8 version, just as long as the skilled modders get it in the correct (RAF) config.
  19. I suppose thats why god invented the F9 key. One hand on mouse, one hovering over F9, head moving feeely. Look up a swicth or dial, F9, move mouse click, F9. After a while it comes natural and quick/easy. It's the way I use FS2004 3D cockpits. Simple one click switchs can be used without disabling TIR, but dials that requires the mouse to remain stationary for 5 seconds plus, I would imagine F9 will come in to play.
  20. I am sure the hornet takes off 100% automatically. The pilots don't have a choice, they have to take off holding some bars near the window. Computers are more reliable than humans, when the humans that programmed them are reliable. Slightly paradoxical. Quite a while ago, when an autoland system was developed for passenger aircraft, they had to stop using it due to the fact the aircraft were landing at exactly the same spot in the runway everytime, this they thought would cause damage to the surface and so stopped using it.
  21. Guys, has anyone found anything solid with this? I seem to at random lose the ability to trim any aircraft (using hat or rotary, aircraft dependant). I only play online, sometimes trim won't work. Getting shot down and recovering brings back the trim. However sometimes trim control gets lost. Has anyone found a solution at all?
  22. Dell  , that explains a lot :P . Any improvements Bill? I had an old case that had a clip system, never ever held the cards in securely at all, ended up using "blue tak" (from UK) to keep it together (like putty/chewing gum type material). Having a card that has dodgey connections will certainly decrease it's life length.
  23. It has been a long time since I played offline, but what I used to do was what Poko said. If the AI said, permission to engage xxx type. I would just go through and give the "attack xxx type" command. So instead of saying, "yeah, go ahead", you give the full attack command. Hopefully some of the all knowing guys will give you a better answer.
