Popup > pickle > then just casually egress at Mach 1.5 and 50M AGL. #justviggenthings (Got the module this weekend. I didn't think it would be nearly as much fun as it has turned out to be. What a plane.)

It converts to decimal from DMS itself though, doesn't it?

When you're given a position relative to you, quickly glance down at the HSI, it will help for those cases where people give you cardinal headings, if you find yourself turned around.

Improved stability and dedicated server - Discussion
umkhunto replied to NineLine's topic in Multiplayer
Hence the "headless server client" bit in my post... -
Finished it last night. Enjoyed all the missions, good balance between travel and action, and difficulty of targets. VO's were great and the extra flavour audio (laughing track) did a great job with immersion. Press "F" to pay respects for my wingie on the CAP mission though. I sent him in as a meat shield while I was rippling AIM-7's. Unfortunately for the Wingie, Operation Human Shield worked as intended. Some advice to other folks on the last mission. Make sure you hit your numbers. Don't be like me and be 60 secs ahead of the SEAD flight.

Improved stability and dedicated server - Discussion
umkhunto replied to NineLine's topic in Multiplayer
One thing I see mentioned every now and then in this thread, and others, is "balance" issues. I shudder when I see that word. I don't want an arcade game where things are balanced for "fair and competitive play." If that's what you want, there are other options for you. DCS must stay sim focussed. Some platforms and weapons will be better than others, deal with it. If you think it's that much of a problem, go look what some people who are dedicated to the F-5 and MiG-21 is able to do. On topic: A big improvement will be a dedicated headless server client, that runs on Linux. A more stable and flexible OS, that foregoes licencing and doesn't require a GPU. That's a massive cost reduction and performance overhead reduction that will bump overall server performance by a great deal. -
Yea it's all practise with AAR, unfortunately.

[FIXED] Radar elevation problem after update
umkhunto replied to Solid84's topic in Bugs and Problems
Attached is a track of a just the Persian Gulf Free Flight. Not sure how this will help you, because it doesn't look I'm doing anything, but I assure you, whilst staring at the right DDI, I am trying to manipulate the radar elevation. It doesn't work whether it's with the default keyboard commands, nor my hotas binds. I also made sure the key presses are detected by the game by testing whether, in adjust controls, it jumps to the function assigned , which they did. The radar elevation either responds super late, and then will either be at the top or bottom of the B-SCope or just not have any change at all. radar_elevation_broken.trk -
[FIXED] Radar elevation problem after update
umkhunto replied to Solid84's topic in Bugs and Problems
I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Can't move the elevation with Axis, not with hotas button presses nor the default keyboard binds. Looks like AIM-7's are going into the barn. :( -
You played 60 hours in the F-15 with the keyboard. i'm not even mad, I'm impressed. If you start spending money on the full modules, you really should think about getting a joystick. As previously mentioned arguably the best bang for buck stick to grab is the Logitech Extreme 3D pro. It's solid piece of kit, that some of more popular DCS hardcore players still use, by pairing it with 3rd party throttles and rudder pedals if they're so inclined. Some just stick with the stick's twist rudder control. You owe it to yourself, since you've purchased the M2000C.

Should pilots be punished for using the G-Limiter override leaver ?
umkhunto replied to Shadow KT's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
(Stares at thread title.) If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck... You tell me. -
Should pilots be punished for using the G-Limiter override leaver ?
umkhunto replied to Shadow KT's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
There shouldn't be repercussions for a single flight, even if it's done 100 times in that flight. The aircraft could likely do these high stress manoeuvres and keep doing it for a couple thousand flight hours. The override doesn't let you magically do a million G's, it gives 30% more than the current FCS limit, based on weight. Lotta folks asking for something in this thread that's beginning to sound very much like "balancing" for multiplayer. It could be that some agile 4th red fighters are finding themselves in situations where a Hornet is pulling solution on them when they don't expect them to, or just tightening the turn a bit more than they expected, while they are trying to gain a solution. If you're looking for balance in MP, this is not the title for you. -
Sounds like you need to do an update.

Hey! Just thought I'd let you know that mission 7 now works correctly. :)
-
Hi Baltic, Thanks man! I will have a look at it tonight once I'm home. Been having a bit of a blast, in the mean time, with the Enemy Within. Some great work there. :)

Oh, it was? Then this might be something else, I'll try to outline what I do at the start of the mission: 1. Get ground power. 2. Turn on Battery. 3. Set PSM mode to VEI. 4. Update current position coördinates. 5. Set PSM mode to ALN 6. Press VAL on PCM to start alignment. 7. Turn on red and green radio, for radio check. - Berger then checks in and briefs us, checks is done between one and two. 8. Update Altitude of waypoints while INS aligns, probably not necessary, but keeps me busy. 9. Set bingo, IFF code, desired altitude. During this time all the M2000C's take off successfully. Once aligned: 10. Set PSM mode to NAV. 11. Get clearance from tower for startup. 12. After start up, get clearance for taxi. By this time an RAF C-130 has landed on runway 32 and stopped on the runway 14 exit, blocked by an E-3B. (Not sure whether this is intended or not.) 13. I taxi out of the HAS, turn right, taxi past two's HAS, but he stays put. If I keep taxing, I will drove past I'm sure a trigger zone on, where a bunch of troops and vehicles on the left, next to another C-130 start moving out. I've taxied to the active runway (32) and taken off. Two remains in the HAS. Things I've done differently: Waited for the INS alignment to complete, before doing the radio check in, with then immediately starting up and taxing out, will yield the same result unfortunately. I'm playing the campaign on Open Beta.

I would just like to follow up regarding Mission 7. It seems all the other flights take off fine, whether I wait for their take offs before doing the radio checks, or whether I do them immediately at missions start. Unfortunately my wingman still stays put in his hangar. I've also noticed an RAF Hercules comes in to land, then gets stuck on the taxi way because and E-3B is in the way. I'm unsure whether this might be intended or also related to a problem that might cause two not to taxi out. I've enjoyed the campaign thus far, but am stuck now. I assume, as per your last post, the problems that is causing the wingman to not activate, will be patched on Wednesday. My fingers are crossed.

It's not a sometime thing, you recreate that behaviour 10/10 times. It takes admin to fix and when it happens, I just jump into a new bird.
-
I've not been able to fix the FCS issue, even when pulling breakers. LEF's will be left at 12 and right at 0. If I start the FCS BIT, then the entire control system becomes unresponsive. I've just resorted to grabbing a new plane after each landing. I will test with a full shutdown then start up checklist. I assume the shutdown checklist is in the NATOPS manual?
-
Today I experienced this exact issue. It seems to happen when you perform a full shutdown then start up. I've done manual start ups and auto start ups. I've tried Paddle and FCS reset, no joy. Cycled repeated paddle and FCS reset. Tried FCS test consent(y) with FCS reset at the same time. Tried all of above steps, with all 3 flap settings. Tried all the steps with NWS on and off. In none of the above attempts could I get the FCS to complete a BIT nor could could I get my flight surfaces to move. Bit annoying that you have to respawn after every landing.

Just keep practicing and remember where you start your turn for the 90. Also try to keep your downwind the same distance from the ship and adjust bank accordingly. If you're close your will overshoot and be right, if you're further you will undershoot and be left. Adjust your next turn in start based on that. (This is all provided you keep an AoB of 30 deg.) It has taken me a lot of practice, and I still suck at it, but my line up is improving. I find If I'm 1.1mi from the CV, and I start a 30deg bank at the LSO station, I tend to line up on the money.
