  1. I meant to ask that question also. When it says "turn on the TACAN and set channel and band of the beacon" what TACAN am i tuning to. Is it the carrier?
  2. Sorry for what are probably stupid questions, but I am currently trying to fly the DCE campaign detailed here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=259521 and am experiencing this issue due to the date the campaign is set. When the aircraft is starting it is on a moving aircraft carrier, subsequently the plane is moving. Does that mean I have to follow step 2? If that is the case what is meant by "TACAN beacon data must be saved in MC", and also what TACAN am i tuning to. Is it the TACAN of the carrier? Thanks in advance
  3. So just to be clear, the instructions state: "Hi Not a bug, GPS will only work after 1994 You would need to manually align before this date. 1. In the case the plane didn't move since start of the mission: coordinates of the first waypoint can be used to set own coordinates after INS align completed a) on HSI page choose wpt 0 using PB12 "up" or PB13 "dn", then press PB14 "WPDSG" b) on HSI page press PB7 "UPDT", press PB7 "DSG", press PB6 "ACPT" 2. In the case the plane has moved since start of the mission: you can use TCN position update after INS align completed a) TACAN beacon data must be saved in MC b) turn on the TACAN and set channel and band of the beacon, set T/R mode; you must receive bearing and range c) on HSI page press PB7 "UPDT", press PB6 "TCN", press PB6 "ACPT" So, as I presume the plane has moved (because the carrier is moving?) we have to follow step 2 which is: 2. In the case the plane has moved since start of the mission: you can use TCN position update after INS align completed a) TACAN beacon data must be saved in MC b) turn on the TACAN and set channel and band of the beacon, set T/R mode; you must receive bearing and range c) on HSI page press PB7 "UPDT", press PB6 "TCN", press PB6 "ACPT" Is that correct? What does it mean "TACAN beacon data must be saved in MC"? Thanks in advance
  4. I have just attempted the 2nd mission and unfortunately the problem persists which is a real shame as I would love to fly this campaign. If anybody finds a fix/workaround can they please post it here. Thanks in advance.
  5. Would like to know the answer to this question also please. Thanks
  6. jimblue I am not really knowledgable or expert enought to inform you, but I will say if you are new to DCS then you have a whole lot of learning to do (which is part of the fun!). There are hours worth of useful and informative youtube videos out there that you can reference for knowledge. I suggest you spend at least as much time watching those videos as attempting to play DCS at the moment so that you can get some base knowledge which will help you get so much more from the game. I can tell you that there is a mod available from the DCS user files section which will present the JTAC coordinates in a format that the Hornet can handle, but you will have to learn how to enter these coordinates and how to set the correct precision parameters in the HSI (probably wrong terminology). There is no way around it, expect to have to study your ass off and try and find the information. It is all out there.
  7. Excellent. I will try that, thanks.
  8. Could you please point me at any of the dynamic campaigns you would specifically recommend? Thanks in advance
  9. Just experienced this same behaviour so guess it's still an issue? I know I'm not pursuing undesignate by mistake.
  10. I'm stumped as to how I can achieve this. If anyone can shed any light I would be grateful. Wicked - I'm guessing you are flying in VR? I have tried this but is it correct you then lose any use of the mouse? Is there any way to use both? When only using my head movements to move the white dot or blue cross around the cockpit I get neck ache, especially when trying to look in the extremes.
  11. Not an expert, but I believe this is correct RL behaviour. Mav takes priority when both are selected.
  12. Thanks for the replies. I will give Joystick Gremlin a go, and see how I get on. Regards
  13. Can somebody please tell me if there is a way to map the function key radio calls to buttons/hat switch on the HOTAS? I fly in VR and having to try and find the button to open the communications menu and then find the correct F key to make the call can be quite distracting. Unfortunately I can't use any of the programs which use voice commands as I only get to game late at night when the rest of the house had gone to bed. Thanks

    Easy refueling

I find the drogue easier. I can refuel the Hornet no problem, but I just can't manage it in the Viper. The tanker usually ends up going down in a ball of flames after I get frustrated and fire a sidewinder at it. Any suggestions gratefully received.
  15. Well 10 days in and I am loving my new Warthog stick and throttle. So much better than my Saitek X52 and lots of buttons to configure. I do find the spring very heavy, but am going to try and get used to it. I am thinking of getting a Wheel stand pro to mount it all on. Anybody else got one and can offer any thoughts. I'm looking at the pro deluxe version which has separate mounts for stick and throttle. Going to have to get that deltasim slew upgrade mod though. The default is truly as bad as everyone says and I cant believe they haven't changed the design in all the years they have been making them. Its looking like nearly a 3 month wait for the slew sensor. Can anybody please suggest some good curves to use with it in the meantime, so that its slightly less sensitive and a bit more usable? Thanks in advance

  18. So I just literally took delivery of my Warthog stick and throttle - wow this thing is a beast, and seems like great build quality. Have had a very quick flight, and think I am going to have to re-learn everything and build some muscles up, the spring is so strong (especially compared to my x52 which you can blow on and it moves!) I consider that i got quite a good deal. They usually retail on Amazon uk for £350, I managed to get one from the Amazon Warehouse for £250 which was classed as "acceptable" condition. I was a tad worried, but knew I could send it back if I wasnt happy. As luck would have it, I dont think its ever been out of the box, so happy days. Now im off to the gym to build my biceps up some.
  19. Sorry for what i'm sure is a dumb question, but when bombing using CCIP how can you know where a target is? Auto bombing i'm fine with (mostly) and there is a nice little diamond placed around the target, but CCIP there seems to be nothing. I'm using VR and finding it very difficult to spot tanks hiding in trees etc. Are you supposed to cheat a little and use auto to show you where the target is and then change to CCIP at the last minute? That would seem a little limited for an expensive and advanced fighter jet? What am I missing? Thanks in advance
  20. Also still suffering from this exact issue. My rig is used ONLY for DCS. I have no anti virus software installed. Windows defender is disabled via a registry edit. Literally the only things installed and running are DCS, Oculus software and Nvidia GFX driver. Its quite maddening because numerous times throughout a mission I have to press alt + enter in order to prevent the stuttering/juddering.
  21. Fantastic. Not really worried about it being reversible, at I don't know a time when the idle detent is required, but it really gets in the way when trying to do air to air refueling. Thanks for the help.
  22. I've read some threads and watched a video on how to remove the detents on the X52, but I only want to remove the idle detent and keep the afterburner one. Is this possible please?
  23. Thanks once again. My biggest concern is stiction. The X52 suffers really badly with it, and trying to master air refueling has been a difficult task (even with curves and dead zones). I have to move the stick with quite a lot of force away from center to get it to move, and then all of a sudden it moves lots, this doesn't help with pilot induced oscillation and trying to make minor corrections is very difficult. It is for this reason that I worry about the Warthog, but its obviously subjective as some people don't complain about it at all. As suggested I think my best option is to purchase the Warthog from Amazon, try it and if I dont like it I can send it back. Virpil looks great and I could stretch to it, but im not sure I can really justify it. On top of that it just seems so difficult to get hold of. Thanks again
  24. Thanks for your feedback. Seems like going for the warthog will be a good compromise between cost, quality and functionality and a big improvement over the x52. Can I confirm the warthog has afterburner detents so that you know you are going in to burner? I have quite small hands? Is the lack of a moveable rest likely to cause me a problem? Thanks again
  25. I know reviews on the internet are very subjective, but every time I think I am just about to pull the trigger on a warthog combo to replace my ageing X52 pro, I see another review that says how bad the warthog gimbal is, that's it's plastic and not very precise, that the slew switch is rubbish and needs replacing with a mod that's going to cost me £60, that the internals of the throttle are plastic and cheap, and that I will need to grease the stick to make it useable. I then think to myself am I better off going for a virpil? but obviously these are more expensive and not so easy to come by. A warthog setup could be had for approx £350, a virpil maybe £600 to buy throttle, base and stick, however if the warthog is really that bad it sounds like I should invest a bit more now for less hassle in the future? (credit cards are wonderful things, and Christmas is coming!). Is the warthog really that bad? Is the fact that I'm coming from an X52 going to make it feel like a massive upgrade anyway? I'm so confused, and appreciate any advice. Thanks.
