I thought I read somewhere that saitek had problems with their Chinese factory, and that those Chinese hold saitek's tooling hostage. No idea how true is that, but I sure wish I had waited longer selling my saitek combats, lol.

i was about to buy it day one, but this: it sounds like it might be a built in solution for image curving for surround projection. HOPE hOPE HOPE :pilotfly: heck, this will be the first time i will try to pre-order a vid card. 3 weeks...

Blah! How dare you! Well, there is still enough here for now :) build looks great. One thing about pedals - do consider some upgrade from the saitek stuff, either DIY or aftermarket unit. Can't say "omfg it changes everything! " but I think you will definitely appreciate the solid feel.

VR surely has its place. As it was already mentioned some will settle on VR instead of building a full cockpit for reasons of skill, time , money . or just like metalnwood ( who is while perfectly capable of building real pit) are more interested in the VR immersion aspect over the clicky toggles. Hovever, my personal primary goal in building a pit is clicky toggles. Virtual mouse toggles, or even tacktile glove do not meet my primary requirements. Hence I have no use for VR in my build. Building a physical pit is sure taking time , but I find I very much enjoy the process of planing and building all by itself. And I know for sure I'm not alone in this madness. So to the topic question: yes, VR will impact the number of physical pits built . No, it will not change physical pits as it doesn't meet all the requirement of someone who decided to go for such pit. Minecraft is great, legos are great. One does not substutute another

System looks good , it can't get much better then that. However I would hold off buying video card right this moment. Guru3d.com guys speculate that in few days there will be some sort of announcement from nvidia about their upcoming new cards. If you guys don't mind I would like to look more into 6600k vs 6700k question though. Aside of stock frequency the only difference is HT and some extra cash mem. From what it looks they both will overclock to similar speeds depending on silicon lottery. So what would you say an advantage of the i7 for DCS or gaming in general if we OC them both to roughly same speed? ADD: With 980TI down to 550$ (although I'm not to big on zotac brand) , i kst admit it is getting very hard to wait

2600K is still a very solid CPU, especially overcloaked. Unless there is money burning your pocket and you really want some of the features new platform offers (m.2 , etc) I wouldn't bother touching it. You are good on RAM. So I'm agreeing with previous poster, the GPU is the only thing I would consider changing. And even that might get you buy for a bit longer.

John, 4:3 is still very much available. Take a look at this: http://m.ebay.com/itm/161449181251?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368 8" LCD with 6.4" with 4.8" viewable area, so vertically it is only 0.2" short of the real unit. Horizontally the buttons will go over it and it is still will be possible to fit onto or at least close to the 6.75" footprint of real device. (Obviously we ripping out the LCD itself out of factory enclosure) It can be found for much less too (can't perform in depth ebay search ATM). I picked pair of similar screens for my MFCD attempt for bit below 30$ . but at the end I think I will be building my MIP around 27incher LCD with Linx's bezels whenever available (unless I manage to pull off my own)

Its 2016, we dont use audio casettes anymore to store music. OS and DCS can live happily on one 256Gb solid drive (~85$) with a bit room to spare for your video software , thats for all 3 clients. steam stuff can live on platters if you so desire or have two repositories and load the more load intensive stuff to same SSD as OS room permitting. You of course feel free to go with whatever solution makes more sence to you, but with current SSD costs having OS and DCS on platters does not make any sense whatsoever to me. Yep, that. Especially with word "urgent" in thread title.

It will last exactly as long (minus any irregularities in particular set of parts). System will OC in exactly same way. 550W quality unit from respectable manufacturer will output 550w all day long without any problem because it was engineered exactly for that task (with some headroom even). And if somehow you do happen to owerdraw beyound what unit can take thermal and/or overcurrent protection will kick in. If you want to have overkill PSU , go at it. I also at a times will splurge on parts that are over-specced . But let's not get overly dramatic about it , there is no absolute need or danger.

thank you for the message. While the price is really good it is a reference and not a ti and in case this card is DOA I will not have proof of purchase for warranty purposes. Slept on it and I will actually pass.
-
if still available i will take it. will you make your original receipt available for warranty purposes? is there warranty at all? in a way it being shrink wrapped is actually a bad thing - it wasn't tested to not be DOA ...

New Thrustmaster gear coming soon
agrasyuk replied to gillers's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
While better joystick/HOTAS sure would be welcome (dare I dream about FFB ones) what i'm really hoping for is larger version of cougar MFDs, something to go with either hornet or wathog (with screen option or without). -
256 or 512Gb SSD will fit nicely as system and DCS drive , you still can have whatever amount of aditional drives to store data. Im not sure what is your question however, It sounds like you have everything figured.
-
It did look like you will need a friendly hand to move this thing , so making it modular does make sense. Lugging my wooden structure in and out of garage is definitely not very fun so my first reaction to your pictures was " ouch, that will need some muscle " :) Thanks for the tip on power supplies, Looked that model up and seen some nice high amp projects with it. And they cost next to nothing so I Ordered a pair as well )

I don't see any benefits of having grossly oversized PSU. Of the mentioned they will perform exactly same as far as noise - inaudible behind all othersystem fans going. pair of cards pulling 500W leaves plenty of W for the rest of the system with a 750W unit, with some room to spare for personal comfort. If you somehow manage to draw more then that it probably means something in your system is smoking and smoldering at that point . Yes, gold efficient or better model from respectable manufacturer is a solid recommendation. In this particular situation however it looks like budget is not an issue so I don't see it to critical if OP wants to splurge on not really needed things. With that if i had a surplis budget I personally would splurge on larger then needed SSD before going for larger then needed PSU.

Thumbs up. Paint makes miracles. Your entire build looks very solid now.

I found I like pro grey the most. With projectors very close to screen slight loss of brightness is not an issue, but I feel like the blacks came out somewhat better. Ambient rejection sample preformed excellent too but I was concerned about gluing. It depends on environment, amount of ambient . General rule of thumb white for totaly dark rooms, grey if ambient light present. But t's all subjective and white indeed can look better to you in your situation. PS, its very hard to judge from the small sample patches. Subjective me says give grey another chance :) Sorry, I know I am not making it any easier to choose.

Couple notes . Baseline is not really a ready screen material but a canvas for painting your own screen. Home theater enthusiast with high end installations apparently often go for oddly tinted screens biege, gray and use that material as base . Flexi screens are not for gluing but for stretching on a frame - not something we can do for a curved sceeen. From what I read there is practically no way to glue the flexi without wrinkles. When gluing spray both sides. sprayed single sided 3M super 77 did not provide sufficient adheasion and I had to redo which didn't improve the screen smotheness at all. If I to do it over again I would use the stronger version (super 80). And make sure to cover surroundings with plastic - that stuff flyes effin everywhere when spraying

Deamon, im quite sure OP want asking about networking aspect but rather DCS setup. And even then I would be quite cautious of the information provided in the article you linked to. With stuff like I doubt it's author qualifications to talk about the topic. OP, there is no native way to achieve what you asking for as fas as I know. With networked helios setup you can transmit gauges, but not viewports. There was a software capturing screen area on main PC to then send it to specified client PC at about 10 exports a second but The link escapes me at the moment. I will be very happy person if anyone disproves me and shows how it can be done

If you not going overcloak (which is your choice) I don't see why spend extra on fan. The non K version comes with stock fan and it will run well within its thermal envelope (as it was designed for). And really it sounds that 6600 will fit your need, 6700 for gaming purposes is not such an upgrade as games mostly don't benefit from HT. If budget is not an issue then of course go for the biggest . With that I'm not sure why the decision to not overcloak was made. Mild one can be easily achieved with stock fan (although it seems the 6xxxKs come without one nowdays) and probably stock voltages without blowing anything up. Free couple KHz would not hurt. On video card it's a tough call. 970 is a good card but as it was said we will see new gen green cards very soon (guru3d guys guesstimate July availability on shelves). Normally I would not wait on newest bleeding edge tech, but this time I'm in doubt.
