  1. Hi Sryan, Thanks for the explanation. I agree with you that the speed will change forcing the heli into a new attitude. Now we are ready to get to my real point. They need to implement the raw trimmer just as for the Huey and Mi-8 (which are also low tech). The pilot trims, then the sim ignores the stick position until then pilot had time to recenter the stick (for non-FFB users). As it is now, the pilot trims, the trim position and stick position add up, the helicopter gets wildly out of control, and by the time it has settled down the flight parameters have changed so much thatit has nothing to do with the trim input any more (and trim has become useless). That's the main point I am trying to make (here and in other threads).
  2. bump. Has anyone figured out how to hold radar altitude using the AP altitude mode. Holding barometric altitude is not much use when flying in any terrain where the ground altitude changes. In a helicopter you want to fly low and fast. Is there a mode to hold radar altitude?:helpsmilie:
  3. Hi Syrian, Thanks for the explanations, they have cleared things up a little for me. To illustrate the problem I have with raw trim I attached an example track. Close to the end of the track I attempt to trim 15 degrees nose down. After a period of wild oscillations the ship ends up being nearly on a level flight, rather than 15 down. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Wolle attempt to trim nose down.trk
  4. The problem is that it will stabilize itself even when the AP is turned off! I fail to notice any difference between flying with it or with the AP turned off. In both cases it will right itself as soon as you let go off the stick. This seems to imply that this is a property of the Gazelle aerodynamics itself, or there is a bug that the AP is always on, even though the switch says it's off.
  5. Thanks for the video, great video, but I am not sure I completely figured out what the correct "helicopter mode" trimming method is (or what you used). Is it to hold down the T button, move the cyclic into the desired position, then release the T button. I am asking because the "helicopter mode" trimming just hasn't worked for me in the Gazelle so far. The way I've been doing it is the move the cyclic into the desired position, then momentarily depressing the T key. For example I start off in level flight, move my cyclic into a 10 degree down attitude, then momentarilypress T, then release the stick back to center. But the chopper will not maintain a 10 degree nose down attitude but go back to level flight. Another thing I noticed that when I momentarily press T then the hat trim will not work any more, if I press T momentarily again, the hat trim works again, another T press hat doesn't work, and so on? I just don't seem to be able to fidure the "helicopter trim" mode out in the Gazelle:helpsmilie:
  6. I also don't notice any different between SAS on/off. Maybe the SAS has not yet been implemented (all that flipping the on switch does atm is to bring the control indicators from a fully deflected to a zero deflection position, but it remains at zero deflection no matter how you move, IIRC). It seems to me that SAS is not yet implemented., and I think once this is implemented it might go a long way towards making this chopper controllable...
  7. Does the altitude mode hold barometric or radar altitude? Can one select which one it should hold? Can't find that info in the manual. :helpsmilie:
  8. Hi John, Many thanks for your help. The Doppler makes going into a hover much easier!
  9. Is there any indication in the cockpit when the auto-hover mode is on? The 18km/h ground speed condition is difficult to achieve, and it is often not clear to me whether the auto-hover mode has caught (I know there is the RALT ENTER "cheat" but I would prefer not to use it). Also, am I right that there is no cockpit indication that could allow one to judge whether the airspeed is less than 18km/h (there is no Doppler radar like in the Mi-8). :helpsmilie:
  10. Yep, only SP. Will remain so until ED will fix the bug that any trigger/scripting for client groups doesn't work (should that fix ever happen:cry:)
  11. The Helicopter War Nevada mission has been updated to include the SA-342M Gazelle. Use it in the light attack role engaging enemy truck and mechanized convoys, for CAS or for troop insertion/extraction. Download here. Enjoy! May 1 edit: troup transport tasks and ADF homing now work for Gazelle also. Use it to insert a small number of troops into the battle field, or to perform CSAR to rescue downed pilots. Each Gazelle now also has a wingman for better force balance.
  12. As Alpha Six said, we should have both trim modes available to us. But as far as I can tell, 99% of us (non-FFB users) now have only the trim hat method available, force trim doesn't work for us. Therefore we need force-trim simulated for non-FFB users in the same way as it is now in the other choppers. Or am I missing something?
  13. I don't think I agree: the real Gazelle pilot has both trim systems available to him/her. However 99% of us (non-FFB users) now have only the trim hat system available, which, as I understand it, is meant for fine adjustments only. I think polychop must give us the second option, and implement the "helicopter trim method" just like in the other choppers.
  14. +1 trimmer needs to be improved (unless someone has come up with a trim recipe that works for him/her, then please share)
  15. Please set auto-collective to off by default, and make it a "special tab" option rather than something that can be activated by a keystroke ("C"). At the moment it has to be deactivated by hand using "C", and that can lead to confusion for a pilot who forgot to deactivate it, or forgot whether he deactivated it or not. If you deactivate it in flight in a hover, if you collective doesn't happen to be at the exact setting of the auto-collective, it means certain death (VRS).
  16. Auto-collective currently is a "cheat" that comeswith the auto-hover auto-pilot function (it can be activated/deactivated by pressing "C"). Some of us think (I do) it is not necessary, the collective can be easily adjusted to stay at a given height above ground. Please make it a special tab option, so that the ones who want it can activate it, but the ones who don't want it can make it permanently disappear.
  17. I don't seem to be able to emit flares (or chaffs, but I don't think you can load any atm). Anyone been successful at that? If so, please share how to do it.
  18. Hi, Was it already mentioned how much SSD space this will add to the DCS world install (hope I have enough left :( )? Is there an option for this the new textures to overwrite the old one, thereby having less of an impact on SSD capacity compared to having both textures present on the SSD?
  19. Rlaxoxo, great to know. Will try out 1.5.3 flight model tonight:thumbup:
  20. Is it just me, or is the latest flight model (DCS world 2.0.2) very susceptible to pilot induced oscillations, especially in pitch, much more than previous version. Upon initial pitch input it doesn't seem to react, and then reacts with a delay making the input overshoot its intended pitch correction. This is particularly noticeable in A2A refueling and landing. A possibly related issue occurs on take-off. After rotation, the plane initially doesn't want to take off, but soon after it lifted off and is a couple of meters off the ground, suddenly it gains altitude very dramatically, unrelated to any change in pitch input of the flight controls. I have never noticed this in any other DCS modules, where the take-off is smooth. Just curious if others have noticed a similar thing...
  21. I've tried it twice, and both times missed the outer marker. Will there be an audible indication in the cockpit when I pass inner and outer markers? I didn't hear it. Do I have to select the correct frequency? If so, how? Also, the locations of the inner and outer marker stations do not show up on my F10 map for Beslan (they do for other airports!?). Have latest version of 1.5.3.:helpsmilie:
  22. Thanks flightcontrol for bringing attention back to these issues. These bugs have broken so many scripted missions. Add to the list that lua predicate and initialization script functions don't work. These bugs have been around for so long, and not a single word from ED if they are planning to fix them.
  23. The latest flight model feels very strange to me: when on landing approach, below a certain altitude above ground the nose suddenly wants to drop. What is the aerodynamic reason for that? I have another question: what is the best way to see the FBW system at work? I always imagined that it makes constant corrections to the control surfaces, but when I fly both the control surface indicators (in the bottom left of the front panel) and the flight surfaces appear to be still?
  24. Since 2.0.2 the G key, which is assigned to the gear lever does not work any more (neither does the HOTAS button I assigned to it), the only way to raise/lower gear is now to click on the gear lever itself. I also noticed that the "G" button control assignment (options-control menu) now has an orange highlight to it, all other assignments do not. The same is true also for all other modules, although there the "G" key still works.:helpsmilie:
  25. Not sure if this forum is the right place... but are there any WWII squadrons recruiting atm? I am looking for squadrons on US time that train new pilots, e.g. in A2A dogfighting skills. I own the P51,Bf109 and FW190 modules. But I dislike flying the P51 (and haven't flown it in a long time), because it gives me significantly lower FPS (see http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=119344) than any other DCS module, making it little fun to fly (unless there is a fix for the FPS problem I am not aware of). I have by far the most experience in the Bf109, but even there my experience is mostly limited to flying it rather than weapons employment or dogfighting (which is what I'd like to learn).
