1. This has been reported a few times before, but doesn't seem to have been given much attention. Training missions highlight boxes way too big Tutorials highlights problem.... Tutorial helper markers scaling in VR The helpers that can highlight buttons and switches across all modules work well in both Desktop and VR modes, however, in VR, the helpers are much brighter and a lot larger than when rendered on a traditional monitor. Here is a screenshot of the Harrier highlighting the Fuel Proportioner and Left and Right pump switches on a desktop session Here is exactly the same scene rendered in VR. you can clearly see the difference between the two, but it's exacerbated when inside your HMD due to the distortion of the image captured here on the desktop reprojection. I've never been worried about it enough until recently when I started working on some tutorial missions at night where the size and brightness of the Helpers in VR were a major distraction, especially when there are several in close proximity that virtually obliterated the cockpit instrument textures behind them. The issue is present in any module, in both Stable and Open Beta branches and has been present for a long time. No mods, clean build of both versions. This image was captured in Open Beta 2.5.6.47224.
2. This sounds like exactly what I'm after. So if I read correctly, with Terrain shadows set to default, we will still see the high LOD shadows at close range, but not the flat shadows that are rendered further out? This truly would be the best of both worlds :)
3. Hey guys, appologies if this has been reported before, but I couldn't find anything after a few searches using various keywords, so here goes. When flying at night, the low LOD shadows are projected from the direction of the sun, even though it has set, or hasn't risen yet, but the high LOD shadows are projected from the direction of the moon. See the screenshot below where the darker and sharper low LOD shadows to the Eagle's left side are reacting to a light source at to top right of the frame at around the 1 O'Clock position, whereas the High LOD shadows on the right side of it are reacting to a light source coming in from the right side, around the 4 O'Clock position, which in this screenshot corresponds with the position of a Full moon. In some cases, such as in the next screenshot, you will get both the High and the Low LOD shadows projected for the same object as you're flying along, which can be pretty distracting! Shadow settings on Medium, Terrain shadows on Default, occurs in 2D and VR. No Mods, fresh repair, track file available if needed. Open Beta 2.5.6.45317
4. AI aircraft seem to emit smoke from their engines in direct proportion to that of the player. When I first observed the problem, I was flying an AV-8B approaching a KC-130 tanker from 10 miles out, and as I got closer, I noticed that the tanker was letting out smoke in relation to my throttle settings. The Harrier in the higher RPM's is particularly smokey, so it really stood out. I considered that it may be a module bug with the Harrier and the KC-130 coming from Razbam and being coded together (sorry guys), but I observed the same behaviour with several mixes of Aircraft KC-135's, Mirage, Hornet, Eagle's, always related to the Aircraft that I was flying. In the Hornet, for example, the smoke was there but it was VERY faint and directly matched when my aircraft would be producing smoke. I've attached a track file with several aircraft set out in front of me, and manipulate the throttle to highlight the effect. DCS Open Beta 2.5.6.44266 No mods, clean repair. smoke.trk
5. OK, So I changed the initialization triggers to a Once with the relevant unit in a zone to trigger its own gates, and it works perfectly as any client on the host machine, but still not for any remote clients joining or on a dedicated server.
6. Thanks for the reply, I completely missed the Mission start trigger, I should have thought of that! I'll give that a shot.
7. I enjoyed the original, but would love to se it resurrected.
8. So after building out the Single player F-16C Dashing through the snow mission based on the F/A-18C River Run challenge, I decided to make a multiplayer version so that I could challenge my friends. I initialised the gates for each of the 4 clients, then created the triggers to track all 4 clients through the 140 gates. When flown on the same machine hosting the server, the gates are visible and work properly for any of the 4 client slots, but any remote clients do not see them, but they do work (audio beeps can be heard by that the client flying through the location of the gates). I've attached the log file from the machine hosting the mission, and the track from the server and the remote client. If the mission is hosted on a dedicated server, none of the clients can see the gates, but they do indeed work as with the scenario above. 9. This is a mission that I put together after having such fun with the DCS F/A-18C River Run mission. The idea is the same, fly through all of the gates as quick as you can. Faster than 10 Minutes = A Grade Faster than 10 Minutes 30 seconds = B Grade Faster than 11 Minutes = C Grade Get the mission here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3308276/
10. Hey Hollywood, Encountered an error today, not sure where it resides, but after upgrading to 2.5.17.0 (release), I get a stutter in DCS about every minute, that seem to gradually get worse, started at just a fliker and after about 10 minutes the stutter is up to about a full second. Normally I would never have even considered VAICOM being the culprit, except that I was recording a track to make a video. When I replayed the track, I noticed that the radio menu popped up in the track at pretty much exactly where I encountered my first stutter, then disappeared when I'd encountered the second stutter and this continued for the 10-minute flight. This was after I'd shut down Voice Attack and was recording the track... I never saw the radio menu's when I was flying the mission itself I flew the same mission again after noticing this, without Voice Attack and VAICOM enabled and did not get any stuttering. DCS Open Beta 2.5.6.43931.
11. See this post, it's the same issue: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=257503
12. Please find the track and log files attached. Log File: dcs - Landing Light.zip Track: Landing Light.trk Lights are always clipped in the eye furthest away from the light source. Open Beta 2.5.6.43931 Interesting point of note for testing. Typically when taking screenshots when in VR, I only get the left eye, but I managed to get these screenshots by launching DCS with Skate Zilla's tool and forcing VR on when my VR headset was powered off. It's the same result as shown in the screenshots regardless of if I'm actually looking through my VR headset, or just forcing VR on and can see both eyes rendered on the screen.
13. Same here as a VR user, not using flat shadows either.
14. +1 Same issue here as well, but I also get it with other lights too. External view looking at my aircraft in the 9 O'clock position facing to the 3 O'clock position. The landing light is projected out from 9 to 3 correctly in the left eye, but only the right half of the 12 - 6 line shows it in the right eye. Unfortunately, I can't get you screenshots of the right eye :(
15. Same here, I've only noticed it when on the ground, but it's like there are vertical light spires from the towns in the distance. I see it in Desktop an in VR 2.5.6.43872, No Mods, fresh shaders as of patch, latest NVidia drivers (442.19), log file attached dcs 2.5.6 Light Spires.zip
16. Interesting idea, but no good for my Pimax, it's capped at 82fps which is the refresh rate of the headset and shows as such in both Stable and Open Beta in the menu
17. Whilst flying a night mission in VR, I noticed that ships and AI aircraft flying in the mission all showed as a white light out to extreme distances at certain angles. For Aircraft, it was constant, but for ships, it only happens at certain viewing angles in the VR headset, as you approached them, and the higher LOD models were rendered, the 'light' went away. With further testing, I found that these lights seem to be a reflection of the moonlight. On an overcast night, when under the cloud layer, neither the ships nor the aircraft produced these lights at long distances. It's difficult to show in a screenshot, but in this one below, there is a Carrier at the centre of the formation and an SH-60 hovering next to it (2 dots), with some escorts around it, and an E-2 orbiting overhead which you can see from the white dots. No mods, cleaned shaders, log file attached dcs 2.5.6 moonlight reflections.zip. I was not able to reproduce this problem in 2D mode.
18. Sorry, I should have been more elaborate. All of the stars in the current DCS sky are all of the same intensity. If you look up at the night sky on a clear night in DCS, there are thousands of pinpricks of stars but they're all the same, thus trying to identify constellations is all but impossible. If you step outside in the real world on a clear night, you'll notice that some stars are faint, whilst others that typically make up the visible constellations are very clear and bright. I'd like to see this in DCS.
19. Now that we're getting better night time lighting, I'd like to make a request for the night sky to actually reflect the night sky. With the new lighting, the starts in the sky are much more noticeable, but it's also evident that they're just a lot of pin pricks in the sky. we already have the moon phases modeled correctly, it would be great to see the stars shown in the same way, and look up to see Orion, Ursa Major, or the North Star.
20. Using the SSLR feature when in the cockpit of an aircraft, the light sources that reflect from glass surfaces are not blocked by obstacles. In this screenshot, I'm at the end of Runway 08 at Kutaisi at 1 AM. Behind the aircraft are the runway projector lights, but you can see that the DED is reflecting the light from these projectors at the aircrafts 7 O'Clock, despite being blocked by the ICP housing would be blocking this light source. Only glass surfaces are impacted in any way by these lights, the remainder of the cockpit has no lighting change. The issue is present in 2D as well as in VR, although some of the instruments do appear to be shielded from the light in 2D only, such as the Artificial Horizon indicator cluster on the pedestal. logfile attached
21. Just an update to this that I went to the Nevada map this morning to see if the issue occurred there. It didn't, however, since having flown in the Nevada map, the issue is no longer present in the Persian Gulf map. I've since flushed my fxo and metashaders2 folders, as well as the Terrains\map\misc\metacache and shadercache folders, but have been unable to reproduce the issue... The lighting issues mentioned by Der Hirte are still present however.
22. In both the Persian Gulf and The Black Sea maps, I have issues with light streaks across the terrain in one or the other eye in VR, and from the testing, it seems to be related to the left and right tilt of my head in relation to the horizon. Troubleshooting here was conducted in the Persian Gulf map. In the image below, from the left eye, you can see that my head is tilted to the right in comparison to the horizon. The towns above the clock are rendered as they should be with the night lighting textures for the towns. In the next image, again from the left eye, you can see that my head is tilted to the left in comparison with the horizon, but the lighting textures are not being rendered in the towns at all, but instead have a 'streak' across them and the surrounding terrain. This phenomenon is also repeated in the right eye, but in reverse. i.e. when my head is tilted to the left in comparison to the horizon, the right eye gets the streaks, but when tilted right, the night time textures are rendered correctly. This is repeated in exactly the same manner in the Black Sea map and occurs in the cockpit and in external views. DCS was cleaned, shaders cleared with no mods at all prior to these shots being taken. Please find the log file attached. dcs 2.5.6 lighting log.zip
