Bearskin, I'll likely stay Intel, and I'm liking the idea of the Aorus Pro board. I'm not very into pushing for max performance, not at first anyhow, and not into RGB LEDs and all that. Was looking at Asus Prime Z390-A but the Aorus does seem the better board for cooling at they are around the same price. I did see a bundle deal based on Prime Z390-A and 9700K on Aria that caught my eye...maybe add another 2x 8GB to it? https://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/ASUS+PRIME+Z390-A+%2B+Intel+i7+9700K+%2B+16GB+Corsair+Vengeance+White+3000MHz+?productId=70900 I get the HT thing, and if there was a good deal on i7-8700K I would go for it, but they seem to be pretty much the same price as the 9700K which is a shame. I guess I could look at eBay etc.

Lol, no need to apologise! I appreciate the suggestions and advice  Every few years I go through this process, and spend months being undecided! This forum really helps, and I'm very grateful to everyone for their thoughts. I watched this video yesterday, thought it was interesting. Hadn't really considered AMD having not had one since Athlon 2100+ days...

Thanks Bearskin, that's some really great info! Does lack of H/T in 9700K matter to DCS, or other games like PUBG?

Hi All, It's time to look at upgrading my gaming machine, in particular the CPU, mobo, and RAM. Full spec in sig. I already have a spare 250GB Samsung EVO 850 (used to be my DCS drive before upgrade to 860 1TB) and happy to use that for new Win 10 OS drive. Don't see the need right now for the extra cost of an M2. Maybe later. I'm going to base the build around i7-9700K so looking for suggestions please for cooler, Z390 mobo, and 32GB RAM solutions. Cheers, R

Samsung EVO 960 1TB SATA here - no M2 on my board, but I'm happy with it

Excellent! Saw the real thing at RAF Fairford in July

Any news on when the NAVFLIR hotspot detector will be implemented at all?

Just discovered this issue, if you switch the right MFD to HSD you can see the WP moving around the screen! Also pressing OVRD OSB when TGP is SOI makes the current selected WP go nuts!

Very impressed, good job ED! I know there's a lot of improvements ahead, but for day 1 I'm quite happy with the new toy. Dogfighting seems a lot of fun, been playing the 2v1 IA mission to get a feel for the jet. Hotas Warthog mapping 'out the box' is pretty good too, only had to make a few minor tweaks so far. Having been an avid flyer of the 'other' popular Viper sim out there, some obvious things are lacking with the dogfight HUD and ACM radar modes by comparison but hey, it's early days!

Upgrading Samsung 850 EVO 250GB to 860 EVO 1TB
Ratfink replied to Ratfink's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks Rudel_chw, that's a much better idea  -
I currently have the 850 EVO 250GB SSD as my (3rd) F: drive which is used exclusively for DCS, and it's starting to run out of space. I would like to replace it with 1TB 860 EVO, making this my new F: drive. I have USB3.0 caddy for 2.5" drives. I see the Samsung migration software will only work if the source drive has OS installed. So I don't have to spend ages reinstalling DCS and modules, could I get away this process? 1. Connect new 1TB drive to USB and format single partition NTFS 2. Copy/Paste F:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics to new 1TB drive over USB 3. Swap SSD drives internally 4. Change new drive letter to F: 5. Go flying! Thanks, R

Cannot remove JOY_BTN4 as modifier (Warthog HOTAS)
Ratfink replied to Ratfink's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Thanks guys, I found the modifiers.lua file in the folder C:\Users\xxx\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\SpitfireLFMkIX Edited the SpitfireLFMkIX one to remove the "Joy_BTN4" entry and all good now -
I am having this issue, I remove JOY_BTN4 as a modifier for Spitfire IX as I want to assign JOY_BTN4 (paddle switch) on my Warthog stick to the brake action for the Spitfire IX - but I cannot stop JOY_BTN4 being put back as a modifier for the Spitfire IX every time I restart the sim. Is there a "modifier" file I need to edit? Edit: this is with DCS 2.5, and was fine on DCS 2.2 open alpha

Thanks Auntystatic - any idea for the default.lua file?

I'm really keen to try this, but I'm unsure how to apply the files. Can you offer a little advice please? Thanks in advance

Firstly, congrats Razbam - I'm really loving the AV-8B and the challenge of VTOL flight. I'm slowly getting the hang of it  I know it's still a work in progress, but I would love to hear this sound effect of the Pegasus going to idle after vertical landing I've seen Harriers since GR.3 doing airshows here in the UK, and the best part about the end of the display is hearing that unique wind-down of the Pegasus indicating a successful touch down. I hope it's coming to DCS

This bugged track thing is very annoying

Unable to land the Spitfire; any tips?
Ratfink replied to Jamesp1's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I can now land successfully, every time - thanks to this thread and lots of practice :) It is indeed all about the approach - as long as I'm wings level and 110kts over the threshold, I fly along the r/w for a bit, then cut power and flare and touch down 3 wheels, stick hard back (TMWH with curves 25). Roll along, using rudder and brakes when I feel it's about to go sideways and all is good. -
Purchased!!

Anyone else notice tree shadows when at low alt seem to appear & disappear, or flicker?

Agree with the 16GB RAM. I just bought Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming as it's not much more than 1070 because of this mining thing. Both should fit your budget. 1080Ti is too much, and not needed IMHO.

34'' Ultra Wide Monitors curved or not curved
Ratfink replied to Basco1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
What a beast!! I read the stand was big, and my desk is just big enough to take it though the screen is now much closer to my face - and my Warthog throttle and joystick - than I'd like so some desk mods are in order. But the Asus ROG PG348Q is indeed a lovely screen, and the immersion you get from the ultrawide is very complimented by the very gentle curve that puts the peripheral vision at just the right place so it feels good. I did wonder if I'd feel sick but happy to say all good! Anyone thinking about it, get it! It's expensive yes, but so is a decent 4K TV -

I've just taken delivery of the Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming, and have ordered the Asus 34" PG348Q to go with it - gets delivered next week! So far with my 1080p screen, the performance is amazing and I can't wait to experience Ultrawide 100Hz G-sync! -

Awesome video Tone71, thanks for sharing. I'm probably gonna go with Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming - there's a deal to be had on eBuyer.com puts them just a bit higher price than Ethereum hiked 1070s I think the 1080Ti is a little too much for my budget
