It's in the Apache trailer if you look closely. Smart money says this drops with the Apache. (THIS IS PERSONAL SPECULATION)
-
It's all dependent on the command center and what types of radars they were meant to interface with and receive data (tracks) from and then distribute that information out from. If you play the SAM SIMULATOR game it's a bit more intuitive how it's supposed to work. A lot of these SAM systems have a switch to just forcefully "accept" the targeting info from the IADS network link that the HQ is sending them. Remember these all have telecommunication/network/data standards spanning decades and formats/speeds (wireless microwave, cable, telephone), so it's hardly "plug-n-play".

The 4/26/19 newsletter about developing an IADS didn't age well either. They must have had little/nothing at all done in house on it by August 2020, and didn't plan on doing so for at least the next two years or more to consider handing it off to another company, so all that waiting was in vain. The good news is that I've seen the above behavior exhibited by the SA-5 so far and it's one nasty [REDACTED]. I'm loving trying to fight it. Just still disappointed we don't have an appropriately ranged search radar to pair it with.

NTTR MAP WRONG WEIRD TEXTURE COLOR TINT
Eihort replied to GumidekCZ's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
This thread may be of interest to you, and as someone who was born and raised in vegas and has done a lot of flying in the area at various times of day IRL, yes, the DCS coloring is very much off. I also posted in this other thread. Some of Bob1943's pics have held up well and some haven't. The one with 229 dead center is a little faded, but the one them going into the break with 211 center has held up pretty well. Overall I find most of the textures in the Nevada map, indeed, are way too bright and not actually brown enough. -
DCS: Apache and current DCS IR/NVG imaging simulation.
Eihort replied to Focha's topic in DCS: AH-64D
If you're talking about that B&W center MFD screenshot, that image reminds me very much of what the A-10C has had with it's LITENING pod since it's release a decade ago. -

I was literally about to post this question myself. Are we going to see the new FLIR modeling drop with the Apache for EA or it still going to use the legacy FLIR modeling? They've been telling us about the new FLIR graphics for a while now and we're still waiting. Going to be incredibly disappointed if the Apache is going to be stuck with the old model. -
Better than nothing I suppose, but since the high detail Kuz model, getting just a *little* tired of taking literal *years* between teases and release.

This makes absolutely no sense. TIN SHIELD for the SA-5? What in the Ace Combat is this? When I saw TIN SHIELD go in I immediately jumped into the editor and tried to use it instead of BIG BIRD for an SA-10 and now I know why it didn't work. I can only offer several theories. 1. They don't want to bother 3D modeling the massive TALL KING. Maybe the LODs won't look good being how it's so spindly vs the TIN SHIELD. Or it won't sit right on even moderately uneven ground. Or perhaps ODD PAIR/GROUP are the issue. Maybe one of them exceeds some kind of engine limit with it's size/poly count/animation/scale/who-knows-what. 2. They'd have to figure out how to get ODD PAIR/GROUP to track the active target correctly. It can't just sit and spin or rock back and forth. It should rotate to track the active target SQUARE PAIR is looking at, or at least be close. I don't think any other system does this between two vehicles, and might not be possible in engine, so they have cheated. 3. Some kind of Intellectual Property issue. Either way.... seriously? TIN SHIELD? SPOON REST when?

Anyone got a turnaround on emails to their info email address? Just curious. Had an inquiry about getting a replacement ministick and board for the Taurus as mine took a dump and haven't gotten a reply after a few days. Wondering what others may be experiencing.

All started when I was having problems in a MP server getting TACAN to work properly in the F-14B. Decided to check things out in single player. Briefing says the boat is on 71X. Tuned 71X. Nothing. Zero. Zip. Nada. Checked manuals. Checked Chuck's Guide. Checked Laobi's (giggidy) video. Everything says TACAN should be working. But it's still not working. Tell Jester to tune it. It works. Jump to the back seat. It's set for 74X. Kneeboard says boat is 74X.

You could also cut acetate sheets to lay on that so you can just swap them out super fast too.

[BUG] Cat Right Engine not catching on startup
Eihort replied to Dangermouseb51's topic in Bugs and Problems
Any movement on this one? Just happened to me again. :\ -
So if I am to understand previous posts correctly, the actual implementation of using these new modes to find a stationary building or other geopoint (not an in-game unit like a tank or ship) isn't working correctly yet? I've been having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to steer the SAR map to show me a target whether on a waypoint or not. The TDC designation seems to move the area around randomly or unpredictably limiting the usefulness. Am I doing something wrong or is it still not complete?

Just noticed this. The pylons for the inner hard points when you take GBU12s are different. The left one appears to be the wrong size, and places the bomb more forward than the other.

DCS World image quality - 2017 vs. 2020, which is better?
Eihort replied to GeneralDynamics's topic in DCS 2.9
I was Battle Born and Battle Raised in Las Vegas and lived here all my life (I turn 40 in two days). I've had the opportunity to fly in and out many times on commercial aircraft, during different times of year, at different times of day, in different weather conditions. In the watermarked photo that was posted I can tell you it's absolutely NOT anywhere near Monsoon season given there's snow on the mountains. That would put it probably 70/30 the early part of the year than the later. It could be in the middle of January or as late as March depending on how the rain was that year. When it's been raining everything gets slightly darker, depending on the type and mood of the rain fall. Typically we either get this incredibly light drizzle off and on all day, or it drops buckets for about 20 minutes, stays overcast for a few hours and then breaks up and the sun comes out. It's the mid-2000s because I can see properties that stop existing still up (Stardust in particular), and other buildings and features built since then that don't exist yet (Palms 2nd tower isn't there). Considering at that time I was at UNLV which is in that picture, and they've seen consistent growth over the last 20 years with more buildings, and I was in this area a lot. The D-gates at McCarran are still being built and they haven't moved Russel Rd. over a quarter mile to the north to make room for it. I can also tell you that photo has been color adjusted, and is also subject to the variables of being on actual film, given the time period, so it's 'accuracy' to life is questionable if you were there when it was taken. When I look at the DCS pictures, the 2017 one seems a more realistic depiction to me for one reason: the lightness of the ground texture. I've spent a lot of time flying around the NTTR map and since day 1 my biggest complaint was that it's too light. You don't see this bright sand color from the air in the completely undeveloped areas, because it's covered in sage brush and other plant life for the most part. You only see that in areas where it's been bulldozed and turned over and the gravel removed, and it's still not quite that light. I know a lot of this is because the various limits and compromises that must exist in the engine due to technical limitations, but on average, the entire map is too light as far as I'm concerned. To be perfectly honest, there are some parts of Iran in DCS that are better representations of the typical "mountains and desert" regions of Nevada. -
[CORRECT AS IS NOW ]Problems with TPOD control
Eihort replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in Bugs and Problems
You don't even have to be armed with GPS weapons. The whole control scheme is borked. Hitting un/cage ends up stowing the pod, and undesignate points you forward as far as it will go. -
Activation Failures After Update to 2.5.6.49315
Eihort replied to jjohnson241's topic in Installation Problems
This is tied to the free play period ending. They're all now requesting keys every time you launch the game. -
Ditto. Just experienced this in MP with a multicrew Tomcat getting hit and then respawning in a different slot as well.
-
Yeah, if I tried something that far off boresight, it wouldn't even look far enough over to try and grab it in MP. I'll give it a few more tries and see...... once I'm done recovering from a massive HD failure. x_x
-
That's the problem. This never seems to work, and it used to.

Had some nice solid tracks in TWS MAN, and bugged one of them. "A while ago" (my pilot got bit by the Viper so I jumped into the Viggen for a while), I would just hit one of the TRACK buttons and the AWG-9 would do a decent enough job of locking up the track, provided the the target didn't do anything weird or sudden or was notching. Lately though I can't seem to get it to work. Appears on the scope that it won't try and lock if the target is more than 15 deg to either side, and I've yet to get a track to successfully pass from TWS to STT at all. PD Search to track seem to work no problem. Something change I'm unaware of?

Wishlist for potential planes after JF-17
Eihort replied to J-20's topic in Deka Ironwork Simulations
That looks like FSX with the Hornet MFDs jammed into a Su-27 cockpit. For my own request.... -
Apparently I got super confused for some reason between my two attempts and was pressing B8 instead of Keypad 8. PS Buddyfox UFCP for data entry is amazing and wonderful.
