  1. Doesn't look too bad for me in the A or B. I usually check by checking the seat back relative to where my back would be (or is) and the same with seat height in comparison to where my real seat is. I always reset my view when first starting DCS World, and periodically, by just looking forward with my head straight and level and pressing numpad 5. Some games I have to adjust it manually by moving my head forward, back, up or down, then pressing the reset view key, but DCS World is pretty much always spot on for me with a comfortable position looking straight ahead.
  2. Hi, I have been using the Tomcat quite a few times today. Earlier today I ran the update for DCS 2.5.6.58125 Open Beta. I have encountered a few CTDs. The first time, I can't recall the mission, but I think it was a training mission, and I encountered a CTD. I restarted DCS and then the same mission ran successfully. Just now, I have tried to start the mission, "Colorado River Run". This has caused the sim to CTD three times in a row, so I am unable to use this mission. I have no mods installed, just official DCS aircraft, campaigns and terrains. I have also encountered some issues in other training missions. Guns and AIM-9 training missions, the missions should start paused, but pause is immediately disabled and the aircraft is under players control, taking it past the drones. When the mission should unpause once the instructions have been given, it pauses. Drones do still appear, but you need to manually unpause then do a 180 and go find them. Carrier take off training mission, there is a soldier who appears and disappears near the edge of the boat on the Tomcat's left when on the catapult. Cheers,
  3. Interesting, thanks for the info. Regarding the forum host, one other site that has recently changed, ORBX forums, is actually hosted by Invision. It must just be the latest trend in web design :). FYI for anyone looking for a way to darken the screen a bit, try Dark Reader. I use Chrome browser, and I know it also work with Firefox, Safari , and Edge. https://darkreader.org/
  4. What's the deal with these forum changes. This is about the fifth flightsim website I visit that has gone all white in the past few few months. Are all the flight sim forums using the same server/software? Worse, the admins on most of these sites don't even know where the changes are coming from. Just tried the Dark and Denim themes in user settings/account and they seem to shrink the text too? WTF?
  5. How dare you!!!! You obviously weren't doing it right. :joystick: ;)
  6. Congratulations guys. I am a big fan and customer of IndiaFoxtEcho, and it is great to see such talented developers working together. I will be a day one customer of an upgraded MB-339. Best of luck with all your ventures going forward.
  7. I fear that this performance issue is going to cost some users. I have a mate who tried DCS out on the Rift CV1 right around the time 2.5.6 was released, and he told me he tried it, but gave up after not too long due to the woeful performance. You need frames to be high enough and stable in VR or it is very uncomfortable, and just not usable. I shared with him some settings tips before and after, but I don't think he will even try it again. I am still on 2.5.5, as my DCS World was unplayable after updating to 2.5.6. I had been doing quite a lot of Nevada Aggressor missions, most recently in the Hornet, and 2.5.6 just would not allow me to use this in VR. I use DCS in VR exclusively now, and it used to be magnificent for that, but 2.5.6 has really stuffed it, to put it bluntly. I know this is still in Beta, but i just hope ED are taking this seriously, because something has gone really awry for performance to drop so severely in VR. I think they need to take a step back and figure out which move went wrong, then go back to that point and redo it.
  8. Thanks heaps Hammer. Appreciate the response and the info. Cheers,
  9. I noticed a lot of stuttering, and it was unplayable for me in 2.5.6, so I have reverted to the latest 2.5.5 version, and it seems to be back to normal. I use DCS in VR exclusively, but some others using a monitor only seemed to report an increase in performance after the 2.5.6 update. It may depend on the mission(s) being flown at the time. I have been testing in the Hornet Aggressors BFM campaign and with a self made mission with a number of ground and air units, both of which I was using quite regularly before the update.
  10. First of all, love the campaign. I got no kills the first outing, ran out of time, and then 2 out of 3 the second outing, but from then on I have gone 100%, so the boss is pleased with me apparently :D . I just have a few general questions about some terminology used, and if it actually applies to what I do in the mission. I get two messages from Blackjack. One is to "squawk Mode 3 Tactical" (from memory that's it anyway), and upon checking out Blackjack informs me to "push NATCF for RTB". I looked up the meaning of NATCF (Nellis Air Traffic Control Facility), but what is this actually asking me to do? I don't get the command "push NATCF". Re the squawk mode 3 tactical, can I do that in the DCS Hornet? Cheers,
  11. Well my wingman (instructor) flew in to me upon turning in for the final approach the second time I flew this mission, and blew me up. Maybe something similar happened. I didn't get a "fratricide" message though. Just died :(
  12. This was a strange one. It seems to have fixed itself now. I fully uninstalled the module using the module manager, then I reinsatlled it, but I still got the CTD and the same error. Had a look and the mentioned file was present in the correct location. I then gave up and went on to use a few other modules for a few hours. Then I tried an instant action mission with the F-14 again, and it started. After trying a few more instant action and training scenarios I went back and tried the cold and dark startupp training again, and this time it loaded. Not sure how, but it seems to have fixed itself.
  13. I just tried to load the F-14 cold and dark training misison (pilot) and encountered a CTD three times in a row. It seems there is a missing file. Here is the Windows error report: Windows cannot access the file C:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\CoreMods\aircraft\F14\Textures\Diffuse_RoughMet\HB_F14_Nacelles_Rear.dds for one of the following reasons: there is a problem with the network connection, the disk that the file is stored on, or the storage drivers installed on this computer; or the disk is missing. Windows closed the program DCS because of this error. Program: DCS File: C:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\CoreMods\aircraft\F14\Textures\Diffuse_RoughMet\HB_F14_Nacelles_Rear.dds The error value is listed in the Additional Data section. User Action 1. Open the file again. This situation might be a temporary problem that corrects itself when the program runs again. 2. If the file still cannot be accessed and - It is on the network, your network administrator should verify that there is not a problem with the network and that the server can be contacted. - It is on a removable disk, for example, a floppy disk or CD-ROM, verify that the disk is fully inserted into the computer. 3. Check and repair the file system by running CHKDSK. To run CHKDSK, click Start, click Run, type CMD, and then click OK. At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /F, and then press ENTER. 4. If the problem persists, restore the file from a backup copy. 5. Determine whether other files on the same disk can be opened. If not, the disk might be damaged. If it is a hard disk, contact your administrator or computer hardware vendor for further assistance. Additional Data Error value: C000009C
  14. When using the Aim-7 is it correct behaviour if I can only choose between Interlaced or PDI? I could not choose medium or high manually. Finally finished the last mission of the mini campaign, with my wingman intact, but in the end I still had no luck with the AA radar using Aim-7s. I ended up having to go boresight as I could not lock the enemy up at all at range. I used the contrails and missile trails to locate the enemy, and of course had to avoid missiles, but I locked up and destroyed two with Aim-7s using boresight, and the third was purely BFM using guns after both Aim-9s hit flares. Not sure who downed the fourth guy. I noticed my wingman will eventually engage bandits after he has dropped his bombs on the primary (and survives). Any good tutorials out there on Aim-7 use with radar? I have a lot to learn it seems.
  15. Hi, This is probably user error, but I am having some difficulty using the A/A radar to lock targets, particularly in the last mission of the mini campaign, where the goal is to destroy helicopters on the ramp. My wingman is utterly useless in this mission as he will not engage bandits, and he gets shot down by a SAM 90% of the time while attacking the airport. This leaves me to deal with the fighters alone, and I can deal with some of them, but I have noticed a repeating pattern in this mission where my radar will not lock the targets, and it also loses track of them suddenly. I will have the targets on the display, I will place the brackets over a target, but when I press the TDC depress switch to lock the target, I do not get a lock indication, I just get the target singled out (ie I lose other targets from the display) and the azimuth scan reduced to about a 5-10 degree sweep over the target. If I hit the TDC depress switch again, the TDC returns to the top left corner of the display, and normal A/A radar function and sweep is resumed. I can lock targets, and I do in this mission, but why can't I lock them all the time if they are there to be locked? Another issue I am having is that I will suddenly lose the same targets in the same place almost every time I fly the mission. I will have the targets at about 20 -30 NM on the display, clear as day, but I won't be able to lock them. I do not even get the above response when I try to lock them. Then the returns will start flashing for 5 -10 seconds, and then I will lose contact totally. I tend to think that this second issue is caused by the targets flying above or below the vertical range of the radar, but I'm not sure. I can never reaquire them just by increasing vertical range or by pointing my nose up or down. Any advice to how I can overcome these issues would be appreciated. Cheers
  16. Thanks, that's good advice. Surprisingly I had never even heard of this tactic before.
  17. Anyone else feel like a Red Squadron X-Wing pilot running down the Death Star canyon when they use an Aim-7? "Stay on target.....stay on target...". Waiting for an Aim-7 to reach the target is the longest 10-20 seconds of my life every time.
  18. Been having some trouble with this mission too. I am mostly having issues with my AI wingman. If I order him to engage bandits he just says "Unable" every time. He has never engaged a bandit in this mission. That left me to order him to engage the target and rejoin, but every time he does that he gets shot down, I think by a SAM. I have actually completed this mission a few times, but never been able to return to the ship with my wingman, so I keep trying to get that perfect result. Good to read the tips in here, I'm going to try some of them out. Tried a few more times today. Managed to shoot down 2 or 3 of the bandits each time, but then got shot down. My wingman may as well stay on the boat for this mission, he is beyond useless!
  19. Hornet Auto Bombing Inaccurate Again I am having issues with the accuracy of the Hornet dumb munitions bombing. I am flying the mission in the campaign where you are tasked with bombing the command and control centre at waypoint 3. I designate WP3 as the target, set the point as target designate, and fly on the bomb line then pickle when the horizontal line starts moving down until auto release. I have been watching the bombs fall, as I have flown this mission several times for practice, and to figure out whats going wrong, and every time the bombs are falling WELL short of the target. WP3 is correctly designated as the target as I can see the target diamond on the ground right between the tents and vehicles. I think the bombs are MK84s, and each and every time, no matter my speed or altitude of release, they are falling what looks like 500-1000 metres short. Are the MK84s known to be inaccurate in the Hornet simulation? Cheers,
  20. Thank you all for the good advice and feedback. It does seem to be the retarted bombs which are impacting way short or long of the target, even when using them as slicks. I have been having good results with the CBUs, although, as I posted in my initial post above I need to fly a profile to get these accurate results. The MK82/83/84 seem to be fairly accurate. I like your video Preendog, and as Mule said the music was great. Cheers,
  21. It's funny you should mention CBUs, as they are the munitions I was initially having trouble with and the reason I specifically started training on bombing procedures. During the training mission for CBUs it is stated that you need to fly a profile of something like a dive angle of 30 degrees, at 500 knots, and release at 2500 feet. Flying this profile I have had success with the CBUs. I have then been flying the instant mission "Weapons practice" where you are loaded with a number of unguided weapons. Flying the correct profile for the CBUs gives me good hits, but as I have not remembered the correct profile (or if there was one) for the other unguided bombs, I have been relying purely on the HUD display in CCIP mode, and this has been really hit and miss. I will pickle when the cross is directly on the target and sometimes the bomb has been landing 100m past or short of the target. I have also had direct hits. This is where my issue lies. The CCIP targeting does not appear to be accurate with all speeds, altiitudes and angles.
  22. Hi, I feel like I am not understanding something. I have gone through the training missions for the Hornet, and I have been practicing to try and get my bombing more accurate, but I can't get my head around one thing. Why are specific profiles required for CCIP bombing mode? Why is CCIP inaccurate when these profiles are not flown? As far as I understood in the past, CCIP was a near automatic targeting mode where the "computer" calculated the impact point (hence the name "CCIP") and took the aircraft's altitude, speed, weapon type etc in to account to make the calculations, and then displayed the target impact point on the HUD, so the pilot did not have to make so many calculations or observations. If I have to fly profiles, I may as well be bombing in manual mode. Am I missing something here? Cheers,
  23. Strangely this resolved itself. I just exited the Activation window without entering anything and exited DCS. The next time I started DCS the Mig-21 was activated.
  24. Hi, I was just flying the Mig-21 a few weeks back which was the last time I flew in DCS. I currently have DCS World 1.5 and DCS World 2.5 Open Beta installed. Tonight I updated 2.5 Open Beta to the latest version, and upon the sim starting I am being asked to activate the Mig-21, but it should already be active. Any reason why it is asking for activation again? I have not altered my system at all over the past few weeks since I last flew in the Mig-21. Cheers,
  25. HI, Thanks for the quick reply. I just went through a couple of instant missions and then went back to the training, and it is exactly as you said. I was asked to engage the SAU recovery switch at the start of those training missions, and I didn't know what that was, so I just assumed that the computer (as in the mission script) had control of my aircraft. I just had to assign a control for "SAU on/off" and I was able to disengage it and manoeuvre and continue with the missions. I also had no control for missile release, so had to assign that too. I'm figuring the Mig-21 out....slowly. Thanks for your help. Cheers,
