  1. Trimming for AoA like this. The two screenshots catch it flashing. The point about the horizon line is that if the VV is on that then it's obviously not out of view. If I lower the AoA it stops flashing.
  2. That’s what I thought at first, but that’s not it. Tested it again and yeah it starts flashing at 21.3 AOA. It will flash even above the horizon line when it’s clearly in view.
  3. Not sure why this matters one way or the other. The new features all seem like great news.
  4. Apparently the 2.9 dots appear on ground targets as well. Not sure about 2.8.
  5. DCS adds a graphic “dot” over distant aircraft. This as been done since about version 1.5 and is different than the label “icon” feature. Prior to v2.9 this was sized in pixels and so appeared larger at lower resolutions. In v2.9 this was modified in the attempt to make the dot the same size at various (higher) resolutions. The setting in Options Spotting Dots On or Off toggles between both modes. On=2.9 Off=2.8. Try for yourself and see. Note you need to restart the game in order for this to take effect.
  6. I get the impression that the VV is flashing when you are at the correct on-speed AoA of 20-22 for landing. I haven’t found this described in the manual.
  7. Spotting Dots Off isn’t actually a true Off function. It just reverts the setting back to the 2.8 dots. Playing in 4K it may appear to be off because the 2.8 dots are effectively invisible at that resolution. But now every player is free to exploit any setting they like online.
  8. Full Fidelity modules are too expensive to develop and then give away for free. Besides since there is a free trial available for any aircraft in DCS there’s no need for any more free modules.
  9. I agree. As near as I can tell the new spotting dots are essentially the same thing as dot labels. The difference being that they can be seen at even greater ranges. And that they’re hidden by the cockpit. I agree as well. But we would need a true OFF option as the one we have now simply produces the 2.8 version of the spotting dots.
  10. The trouble here is that right now this isn’t controlled in multiplayer and so it totally open to being exploited. You can choose either the 2.8 or 2.9 version and see aircraft at 20-30 miles. I hope ED doesn’t consider this a solution.
  11. Saying “unrealistically hard” for the purpose of this discussion has no meaning without screenshots and sources. Give us an actual example from the game of an aircraft which you think should be visible IRL that’s isn’t visible in the game.
  12. I got this error message and comms stopped working BLUE-FLAG.PERSIANGULF.MODERN.miz-dynamic-20240109-170648.zip
  13. Well if spotting distant aircraft is “terrible” then it’s realistic Certain combinations of the 2.8 or 2.9 dots along with a particular resolution makes them fantastically too easy to see. You shouldn’t be able to easily see aircraft at 20-30 miles.
  14. Now that we’re getting WWII era carrier aircraft I look forward to ditching them in the sea
  15. Haha yeah. I had these two F-15E players accuse me of team killing one of them. Watching the track later they were nowhere near me. Basically they didn’t know where they were or who they were fighting. They were also shooting AIM-120s at ground targets
  16. In Options, check Cursor Confined to Game Window. So you won’t lose it outside your view. Apparently that’s what this is supposed to do although I don’t notice that this does anything on a monitor.
  17. A simpit (cockpit building?) has nothing to do with AAR skill. Maybe VR would help but practice matters more than your controls. You can change your fuel amount in the Mission Planner even if you’ve selected Unlimited Fuel. DCS doesn’t need an Easy AAR feature simply because doing this isn’t necessary in order to play the game. Yes it’s a fun and rewarding skill but it’s not mandatory. There are many workarounds already available. Using Unlimited Fuel, flying shorter missions etc. In single player DLC campaigns always have a workaround and multiplayer is of course unscripted so there’s no mandate there either. Not being able to do this is no real loss.
  18. I just rebound all my controls manually. For maybe 5 modules I use regularly. It’s not as much work as it sounds like. If I owned and used every DCS module I guess that would be an ordeal.
  19. I was able to map a mouse button to this. If I recall the red exclamation mark indicates a missing modifier that had been previously assigned.
  20. Checked this again in OB 2.9 and it's all working correctly for me now. Tried it out with the AH-64, F-18, A-10CII, M-2000C and P-47D PS it appears that User Snap View Saving needs to be enabled to use this, not just to set it. With that setting disabled my FOV goes back to the DCS default or whatever.
  21. If anything DCS has taught me what a fail I’d be as a real fighter pilot! AAR in the game is easy enough though
  22. This is actually available now. Check it out
  23. Right. There are some WWII DLC campaigns (Reflected) which have you doing this over long flights which is good practice. I have to notice again that the majority of DCS missions cast you as the lead and not a wingman hence people probably never get this experience. Reflected’s campaigns have you in the role of a wingman which is good. Yeah it would be cool if they could get the AI to execute that correctly.
  24. I think the reason players find AAR so difficult comes down to these things. First the game doesn’t offer you enough situations during typical missions or campaigns that involve flying formation. If DCS had a career mode or dynamic campaign where the player wasn’t always the flight lead, flying formation would be second nature. You’d spend hours simply keeping position in a flight. This is of course the prerequisite to AAR. If you jump right into trying to connect to the tanker without this skill it’s no wonder what a struggle it is. Secondly the flight characteristics of the modern FBW jets are simply too easy. Not that they’re unrealistic, that’s how they are. But they don’t challenge the player to develop any flying skills. Again a solution is to fly helicopters or warbirds or something. Get some reflexes developed for flying instead of just being asleep at the wheel (stick). Get used to an aircraft that just requires constant attention and control.
  25. This is the closest thing DCS has to a full on authentic training campaign afaik. It does show that this is possible to have evaluations of performance etc done by the game. I’m curious if they ever plan to have more of these although they’d probably require the aircraft to be complete out of EA which many modules aren’t. It’s not beginner friendly though
