Given the degradation trouble the 13-14 series Intel CPUs have had, I wouldn’t overclock them. I did that to my 13900 and killed it. Using the current BIOS version at its defaults appears to have alleviated this problem but older BIOS versions if not updated (like last August or so) or overclocking will likely degrade the chip. I understand if you’re using Windows 11 these aren’t necessary as it handles the Intel hybrid (gen 12-14) CPUs correctly. It might be useful with Windows 10? I use W11 and a 14900KS and have never found a need for these. DCS runs totally fine by default. This seems backwards. If you somehow enhanced or overclocked the GPU I would think you’d see its utilization go down, not up. I’m using the same 4090 and am able to max it out (DCS says GPU Limited) on a 4K screen.

The premier flight simulator? Well it certainly doesn’t have a premier budget, it’s more like a struggling niche game. It takes years to accomplish even simple things here, I can’t imagine birds are a very high priority for most players.

I honestly don’t see why bird strikes are a thing in DCS. They would be so rare that they aren’t worth modeling. I’ve had one happen in 13 years. Certainly they aren’t worth the effort to “improve”. ED doesn’t have the resources for that.

Head tracking for money - and for free...
SharpeXB replied to Kattern's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I can’t speak to those other solutions but TrackIR is the gold standard for head tracking. Unless you are severely budget conscious or live outside the US (I see you’re in Poland) where it’s sometimes very expensive TrackIR is certainly worth the cost. It works right out of the box and presents no trouble looking in extreme directions like down at side panels. Yes it’s also adjustable but I’ve hardly ever found a reason to mess with it. Face tracking seems inherently problematic. A HUD is fixed at infinity so leaning your virtual head towards it will not make it bigger. The “zoom view” with the mouse will make everything larger since it’s just changing your FOV, that’s a different thing. -
Fps drops from around 120 to 30 every 10 seconds or so

What about your Windows power plan? I understand Core Parking should be disabled in Windows 10 and 11 High Performance power plans by default. -
@LavaFlight C-130 is correctly written with a - after the C.

I use TrackIR but I’ve never found it necessary to create custom profiles, it works fine by default. The Smooth preset is the right one for flight sims where you want to look at 6:00 No doubt it requires a lot of effort to move your head and body when pulling Gs. This can’t be simulated in a game though. Another CFS game simulates exhaustion effects and even the benefit of G suits. It’s rather a good effect actually.
-
It’s a simple thing to solve. I’m not sure why you need so many commands. Just assign a joystick button or even a key on the keyboard. My personal choice is the Arrow Up key because it’s easy to find and not used for anything else in these games.

Thinking of makeing the switch from Track IR to VR
SharpeXB replied to kmaultsby's topic in Virtual Reality
I’ve tried on the Quest 3 in a store and was surprised how blurry the image still is despite the higher resolution. I’ve used an original Rift and perhaps an Index (at work) and the improvement didn’t seem like much. I couldn’t imagine playing a flight sim in it. The other aspect that gets me with VR is the mask effect of the headset, like wearing a scuba mask and that just breaks the reality which otherwise is pretty incredible. If VR had 20/20 equivalent resolution and like a 200d FOV that would be something. But that’s probably not possible anywhere in the near future, maybe never. -
Right. The idea that pilots are strapped so tightly in their seats is a flight sim myth. Well the alternative is getting shot down. Which is worse for your neck/back.
-
That’s not realistic. (also you’re replying to a 4 year old thread )
-
I notice the M-2000 loads this way by default. Of course because that’s the only way it would be done. I’m sure other modules could be similar. Perhaps it’s a module implemented thing. Ten years is just a blink of an eye in DCS development time
-
Sure it’s an important feature for the game. But with my limited time for gaming it’s just not something that worth it for me. There are more missions available for this sim than I’ll ever be able to play through as it is. I don’t need to make my own.
-
The ME is just a realm of complexity I have no time for and no interest in. This game already consists of modules with 600+ page manuals and aircraft that consume hundreds of hours of gameplay time. That’s where the entertainment is for me. The ME is a tool for content creators and not players. This all points towards DCS being somehow targeted at unemployed or retired computer programmers. Not people with full time jobs. Just imagine the possibilities of selling a game to people who actually work for a living

Yes I think we realize that by definition a Dynamic Campaign is able to save itself. What we want is the ability as a player to save and resume our own progress. And to be able to do this mid-mission.
-
Look how this works in any other game. It’s just a button. No instructions needed.
-
I don’t imagine most players use the Mission Editor either. It’s all too complicated and we just want to play the game. Not create content. Playing a mission that you created yourself seems really dull. Plus these instructions are too complicated. We just want a Save and Load button. That’s it. So a limited and obscure feature for the Mission Editor just isn’t useful to me at all. The lack of being able to save is like a roadblock for me consuming content in DCS. It’s put a cap on me buying any new modules or campaigns simply because I can’t play my way through them. I’m backlogged on campaigns I’ve been running for years. It’s great to see progress on this but discouraging that it’s taken 8 or 9 years just to get to this point. This should be the highest priority thing for ED to work on IMO. The game is useless without it.

The second sentence there just contradicted the first one. The vast majority of the programs a typical user would want on their PC aren’t available on Linux. So it’s a rather terrible choice for an OS on a personal machine. It doesn’t matter that it could technically do this, the fact that it has such a tiny market share means it’s never going to get to the same level as Windows in this regard. It’s a and dilemma.
-
There are certainly privacy laws and policies in this regard. But when you say you don’t trust those then what other option do you have? Nobody is forcing you to have a smart phone or a PC.
-
If you don’t trust this stuff you’d better ditch your phone too. It’s definitely spying on you.
-
The Steam Deck is a handheld console, not a PC. The OS no doubt makes sense for that. A PC needs to do more than just play games though. Sure. Call me when Linux has like 30% of the PC market and then is maybe worth the effort. But I severely doubt that will ever happen. Sure… The world’s largest PC OS is going to die. Whatever… How do you know Linux isn’t spying on you? I’d be more worried about your phone too
-
I could care less about my Operating System. Why some people have such an affliction over this is beyond me. You’re so worried about your computer spying on you? Don’t own one. Solved. No company is going to grant your wish by chasing <2% of the market.
-
If it bothers you so much don’t use Windows and don’t play DCS Again, If you’re so worried, then don’t use Windows. Solved.
-
Don’t you think that’s a little farfetched? Just stay off your computer or the internet if you’re so worried about this stuff. But such paranoia isn’t something for ED to worry about. If 98% of their customers are using Windows then that’s what the game is going to run on. If you don’t like that don’t play the game.
