  1. The facts are self-evident. The validity of a poll or survey depends on who it’s sampling. It would also have to be truly randomized and sample enough respondents in order for the results to have any meaning. The Steam Hardware Survey is an example of such. But a poll posted on the ED forums here again is just sampling the enthusiasts who frequent this page, not a large randomized survey of actual players. Common sense should tell you 70% of DCS players do not use VR. If that proportion of players did use VR then the game wouldn’t perform like with it The game would be specifically designed for VR which it clearly is not.
  2. It’s a sample of enthusiasts who frequent this forum. Not the player base as a whole. I notice on the other flight sim survey that the same % use a 4090 graphics card as use VR. That’s the sort of result you get sampling avid players. I think a sample size of 50 is hardly relevant either.
  3. I understand the upcoming F-4 will feature pilot customization. Seems like a cool idea.
  4. Tacview shows 3 kills, game and BS server recorded only 2. Track and Tacview file below: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/k0jgut7kpjwhb1h811vvv/BLUE-FLAG.PERSIANGULF.MODERN.miz-dynamic-20240204-111443.zip?rlkey=047a117a402tlwciodkwg1pfr&dl=0
  5. Does the AVP even work with a Windows PC? I don’t think it even has a video cable. I don’t think it was made for this use.
  6. Sure you can make this sim as real as you like for yourself within the bounds of what’s actually simulated. But thinking you’ll be at the level of someone who’s devoted an entire RW career to this or that it’s even necessary is a bit outlandish. It’s a game. I completed the entire Maple Flag course for the A-10 but I don’t think for a single second that puts me on par with a real A-10 pilot.
  7. I don’t know how you make the comparison of “sensation of speed” between a VR headset and a portrait mode iPhone video
  8. It’s worth recognizing that DCS is a game. It’s not real. Yes it’s realistic but it’s not necessary for players to attain real world levels of competency in order to just play a game on a PC. I’d consider a “10” with a module as having the ability to conduct all phases of flight and employ all the weapons and systems as required in normal gameplay ie DLC campaigns, multiplayer missions etc. Limiting yourself to what’s in the game and the skill needed there and not comparing this to reality in that regard. It would be quite delusional to think you could attain that level of skill or knowledge in a game or that it’s even necessary. You can make these sims as real as you like I suppose but that’s a personal choice.
  9. Why does this matter? Play DCS at your own pace. Don’t worry about what other players do. FWIW I feel I get more out of DCS by focusing on a few or even one module at a time and learning it very well.
  10. Sure I suppose the game could just have a placeholder “default” module to use for this. What you can usually do is just copy the scheme from a similar aircraft as a starting point. That’s just mildly useful since there aren’t really that many common controls.
  11. I’m not sure I understand the whole question and I don’t use Target. But yes you can directly assign device buttons within DCS while playing. DCS can assign buttons directly as modifiers also. There’s no need for your controller to emulate key press functions like Alt or Ctrl. Any button can be a modifier.
  12. Yeah you could assign maybe two or even three different modifiers to those buttons on the base and then have lots of possibilities.
  13. The game already assigns default controls but it’s really problematic. You’re better off just clearing all the assignments and doing it yourself. The game does things like assigning POV hat controls which won’t be used if you have head tracking or VR. It will assign throttle inputs to both a stick slider and throttle since it doesn’t know if you have a separate throttle. Auto assigning commands is rather pointless and probably causes more confusion. Unless it’s one of these module specific HOTAS setups like the Warthog or Winwing controllers it would be best if the game just left them blank. Assigning controls is very easy and only takes a few minutes. I don’t imagine most people buy new controllers very often or that many modules all at once. If you do end up with that circumstance it’s already very easy to deal with. I’m sure the one thing ED can never do with this menu is change it in a way that screws up everyone’s setting.
  14. We actually have this already. The game pre-assigning your controls is rather problematic but you can easily create your own default profile for any device. Any of the simple commands like the flight control axes, brakes, comms, trim, views etc. pretty much anything you see with a simple keyboard command assigned are generic across the modules or so it appears. If you were so inclined you could set up a default stick or throttle arrangement provided all those commands are truly universal, save that and load it into multiple modules. For example I have my rudder pedals saved like that, all those commands are generic; rudder & toe brakes. It will load into any module afaik along with the response curves and such I have set up for them. This is only so useful since the modules also have many unique commands but if I ever found myself reassigning a lot of aircraft with a new controller or such I might get more organized about it.
  15. That’s really strange. Sounds like something else that needs to be fixed too.
  16. Discussed at length here. Note that the current Spotting Dots system isn’t controlled in MP so you have to accept that it’s totally being exploited if you play online. FWIW it’s not realistic at all to see WWII fighters at 20 miles so the most authentic setting for 4K is Off.
  17. It saves them here: C:\Users\yourName\Saved Games\DCS\InputUserProfiles
  18. You can already use the Save/Load Profile function to copy a controller setup from module to another. Obviously you can’t copy aircraft specific functions but things like the axis or trim commands etc will get copied.
  19. Sure, it’s not necessarily a bad idea but a monitor user would never need a button to find their mouse cursor. I get it that visibility in a VR HMD is confined to this small sweet spot in the center hence you can’t see the cursor in the periphery. I’ve used VR headsets but not for gaming.
  20. Visual quality in VR headsets must be really poor if you can’t see the mouse cursor simply by moving it. There is a setting to confine the cursor to the game window so you won’t lose it. I can’t imagine why anyone would turn that off though. Pressing another button just to find your mouse seems really clunky.
  21. Because cows eat snow? Honestly I can’t tell if you make these ridiculous posts as a joke or if you just lack any common sense… I don’t know why you feel the need to make constant requests for a map of every place on earth and provide a link to it as if everyone doesn’t know where Antarctica is.
  22. Imagine this eye chart 10’ away from you in the game. It’s 8.5”x11” https://www.hves.com/wp-content/uploads/snellen-chart.pdf In order to be a fighter pilot you need to be able to read the 20/20 line. Could you do that without zooming in? Probably not. A “realistic” FOV is far narrower than people imagine, a 27” screen at 30” or so would have a value of about 41d, way too narrow to be practical for a flight sim https://dinex86.github.io/FOV-Calculator/ I don’t think that type of calculation or the tool above is that accurate for DCs but you get the idea To play the game effectively you need to zoom your view in and out. So setting an ideal fixed FOV really has no purpose
  23. Veering off topic but the Zoom View isn’t “artificial”. That’s the only way to replicate 20/20 foveal and peripheral vision together on a monitor.
