Please add the famous Harrier spool down sound
Konovalov replied to 104th_Maverick's topic in AV-8B N/A
Correct. Really looking forward to the overhauled sounds for the Harrier. -
Yes. It has been a long standing gripe for many regarding the apparent excessive dispersion of the A10's big BRRRRT cannon. This will be a welcome fix for me.

Good luck Brixmis. I loved the Artic Freezer Pro 7 back in the day with my Core 2 Duo E6600 where I managed to overclock from stock 2.4 to 3.2Ghz. That little cooler cost me I think around 12-15 quid. I did have to do some lapping of my CPU IHS and the cooler base so they were both flat and had better contact.

Thanks Sunstag for the excellent video. Nice to know some fixes improvements have been made and noted do not set wind speed at or above 21 knots to avoid AI harrier sinking on vertical take off.

Help me with the first part of upgrade. 1/2
Konovalov replied to Kevlon's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I would suggest take Bits advice given your nice but demanding monitor specs. So yes upgrade your CPU, motherboard and RAM now while holding off on the GPU. Nvidia should be releasing their new generation graphics cards under the Ampere architecture while AMD with their "Big Navi" cards should also be making an appearance late this year. This should mean some significant performance gains while also hopefully brining some better value and importantly choice in the graphics card market. As an owner of a Nvidia Pascal GTX 1070 I just haven't been able to bring myself to cough up stupid money on the RTX series of cards that don't bring performance gains that I would expect for the price. So I just turn down some graphics settings and tinker to get DCS to run how I want for now and when the next generation of cards arrive in another 6 to 12 months then I will take the plunge and crank up the graphics settings again. -
Getting there along hopefully with fixes and a manual then we may have a feature complete AV-8B by end of this year.
-
Good choice for ground pounding with the only frustration being it is slow of course. But importantly it is complete with a full manual and it is a mature product which has also just had a cockpit facelift which is nice and refreshing bringing it up to current 2020 standard. Hopefully the Harrier by Razbam becomes feature complete later this year and also ED have stated they aim to have the Viper also out of early access later in 2020.

Spend a bit more for a 3rd gen Ryzen 3600. -
'My DCS' - Hardware Set Up and The F/A-18C Hornet

I love the camera views of firstly looking back over the glass canopy and also underneath looking backwards as the landing gear extends out. Oh and great track selection with Muse there.:punk: -
Looking at your current setup in that old classic 2000's case when manufacturers were more concerned with airflow and functionality and not mainly aesthetics, it looks like you currently have a very negative pressure airflow heavy setup. What I mean by this is that your PC case is sucking more air out of the case from inside while you only have the single 200mm fan at the front bottom sucking air in. This will mean more dust will enter your case from any possible crevice and crack that it can find. Normally you would look for a positive airflow setup where you have more intake fans sucking air in from outside while having less outlet fans exhausting the hot air out of the case. What I would firstly do is to take one of the two 120mm fans that are currently at the top and place it at the bottom on the middle of the floor next to the PSU sucking air in and upwards. The top rear case fan that you have reversed to bring air in, I would swap that back to exhaust air out of the case. Leave the 200mm intake fan at the front and if possible remove the hard drive care behind the front 200mm fan to give it a more cleaner flow of air to your graphics card. Oh just noticed the P.S. comment. That 200mm fan on the side of your case sucking air out. I would reverse this to bring air into the case again to assist cooling the GPU and other internal comps. Another option is that you could remove both of the top 120mm fans and instead swap these for the 200mm fan you have currently on the case side window/grill. So that would leave you with a 200mm fan at the top and a 120mm at the top rear both exhausting hot air out of the case. And the 2 x 120mm fans you could mount either both on the side window as intakes or mount one there as an intake and the other on the middle floor position also as an intake. Have a look at (5min 41seconds in) for intake and exhaust setup in this case. Unrelated that CPU cooler was so cheap yet such good value and bang for buck as far as cooling went. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it used the horrible plastic push pin retention mechanism of Intel stock coolers which I just hated on my old Core 2 Duo E6600.

Exactly.:thumbup::thumbup: I could not have said it better. If you want to have your cake and eat it then by all means have two separate installs of the stable and open beta versions. It's not that hard.
-
Exactly. Though I did have someone respond once to me when I shared similar sentiments to yours and the response was that DCS is merely a cockpit simulation focussing on the aircraft themselves, their operation and procedures within the cockpit. Last time I checked DCS stood for Digital Combat Simulator, not Digital Cockpit Simulator.

ED seems to have a sale on every couple of months these days so you shouldn't have to wait long for the next one. ;)

Coming along nicely now Razbam, 2020 is looking better and better for the AV-8B.

Windows 10 licence for new build
Konovalov replied to Ratfink's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Confirm. I did exactly the same thing with my sons second hand system upgraded Win7 to Win10 without paying a penny. :D -
Good stuff and well done. You can't really complain jumping from mid 20 fps up to around 50 fps.:thumbup: And correct me if I'm wrong you have not upgraded your graphics card yet and still have a 1080 right? If so then your next step would be to wait until later in the year when Nvidia release their next generation GPU's Ampere while also hopefully AMD bring to the table some high end competition later in the year also. That is what I'm doing as I hold onto my ageing but still competent Pascal GTX1070 card. P.S. Don't forget to update your forum signature with your new PC Rig specs. :)

Yep always. I've been a long time supporter of Samsung SSD's. In my current rig I have two M.2 Samsung Nvme SSD 960 EVO's, one as an OS drive and the other as my DCS drive. Both these drives have been in my rig for over two years and have been faultless. And even better I have a Samsung 830 SATA SSD that I purchased back in 2012 and it is now in my sons PC and still runs well 8 years later. So yeah go with a reputable name brand.

I like this approach.

RTX2060 and RX5700, which is better for DCS?
Konovalov replied to Cy-27's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have not as yet had a GPU failure in over 25 years of PC gaming, and touch wood may that continue. I guess I have just been lucky. My son has my old Intel based X58 system with an I-7-950 and wait for it, a Gigabyte Nvidia GTX460 1GB card that can still handle Minecraft in 1080p. :) -
Absolutely. Now making in cockpit adjustments to the lighting has an effect and definitely it adds to the immersion and sense of actually being in an aircraft at night. This is a good step forward for ED and it is still early days.
-
Yep Harlikwin has it spot on.
-
Well in the absence of any official response from Razbam I guess we will only have a matter of hours to find out because BIGNEWY has just confirmed here that patch is coming today. Quite frankly I would be surprised if there is much coming our way in terms of the Harrier.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: Being on the east coast of Australia that will probably mean 3-4am Saturday morning here. I am so looking forward to what ED brings to the core features of DCS World in 2020. Bring it on. :cheer3nc::cheer3nc::cheer3nc::cheer3nc:

Excellent painstaking test completed there Tuuvas. Also an excellent response from Zeus67 of Razbam. The video for me really does highlight that the JDAM is not some wonder weapon designed to hit a 50 cent piece every time (choose your own coin/currency). As Harlikwin rightly pointed out, JDAM's were a response to the fallibility and limitations of LGB's during the Balkans in the 90's and also due to the expense of LGB's. Most importantly however is that this video demonstrates the inherent limitation of DCS World and it's simplistic damage model. This is immensely frustrating to me but it is what it is until ED think it is a worthwhile issue to address. So all we can do is to work within the DCS World limitations. Want to have a better than even chance of killing a T-90 with a precision standoff weapon? Use a LGB or other laser guided weapon such as a Maverick or indeed a tv guided weapon. Want to kill a soft skinned vehicle or destroy a building from distance, then by all means use a JDAM. Finally what I would suggest is to start a topic in the DCS World 2.5 section. It is this kind of thing that ED need to look to address.
