FC2 Printed Manual now available in USA via Amazon.com
Konovalov replied to Wags's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Not that I have noticed. They appear the same in content. PDF is in colour while hard copy is not. -
And there aren't many games that take advantage of that. Flight sims it is even worse.

GPU advice for Eagle Dynamics sims
Konovalov replied to default762792's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I really hope that DCS A-10C will run with full eye candy on my 22" 1680 x 1050 resolution screen with a GTX460 1GB or equivalent card. Don't think I will be able to stretch my budget for a GTX570. The GTX580, forget about that one. -
New PNY GTX 580 Graphics card
Konovalov replied to badaboom's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
EVGA tend to offer a decent warranty and their Precision overclocking utility software comes in handy. I think all the GTX580's are reference design so the only thing that probably seperates them are what extra goodies come in the box and if they offer any factory overclock. So shop around. :) -
New PNY GTX 580 Graphics card
Konovalov replied to badaboom's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Lucky you and boy that is a big jump in GPU performance from a GTX260 to what you now have. Please share with us your perception of the jump in performance. Still stuck with my GTX260 here but with my budget constraints the GTX580 is out of my reach. However the GTX570's have just come out and I have seen a stock clocked Palit online for £278 squid. With the help of Santa this may just be in reach. :music_whistling: -
Skypirate, have you checked inside your gtx280 for dust buildup? That may be causing your GPU overheating problems. Worth checking.

I think that the men and women who have served in Afghanistan might strongly disagree with you. Well said 159th Viper.

It was an excellent 90mins viewing with no commercial breaks thankfully. There was plenty of action not to mention A10 gun runs. The only thing that was sad was seeing just how crummy war is for those who have to fight it and those civilians that get caught up in it. We live our cushy little lives flying DCS A10 and all the other luxuries that we enjoy while young men go through hell to help keep us safe.

Possible hardware problem
Konovalov replied to Konovalov's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I reckon it is definately the graphics card causing the problems. The card is an EVGA GTX260 55nm Core 216 SSC Edition. Being an SSC Edition it is factory overclocked with specifications being Core 675Mhz, Shader Clock 1453Mhz, and Memory Clock 1151 Mhz. I completely overlooked this as it has been in my machine for a couple of years now. Anyway in game at the overclocked settings the GPU temp never really went over 60c. This lends me to believe that it isn't the core that is the problem but rather something else like the GPU memory. I conducted a simple test by returning the card to stock GTX260 levels (Core 576Mhz, Shader Clock 1242Mhz, and Memory Clock 999 Mhz) and what do you know. I managed to fly quickstart in Blackshark for 40mins with not a single stutter or graphical glitch. I think I will still open up my case and inspect the card. My guess is there may be dust clogging up the card somewhere. I'll report back on my findings. :) -
Possible hardware problem
Konovalov replied to Konovalov's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have conducted a 12 hour stress test of my system using Prime 95 Blend test (tests some of everything, lots of RAM tested) and everything was fine there with not a single error came up and CPU temp not over 60c. What is a good program to stress test my graphics card? -
Possible hardware problem
Konovalov replied to Konovalov's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks guys for the tips. When I get home tonight I will have a look. Everything in the system is at stock except for the graphics card which is factory overclocked mildly. It's an EVGA GTX260 Superclock model and I think I will need to remove the black plastic shroud off it just so I can clean it properly. Sadly I don't think I can just remove the plastic shroud. I will have to remove the whole heatsink undoing the screws. Not a big deal. I'll just have to clean the chip and reapply TIM to it before remounting. Will check also to make sure card's fan is spinning and so on. I'll report how I get on. Hopefully it is something as simple. Come to think of it I also have a spare Nvidia 7900GS card lying about so I could pop that in and see if it runs ok apart from being on the slow side. :hmm: -
I recently installed Lockon Flaming Cliffs 2 on my new system. Right off the bat I had problems where the sim would freeze and there were problems in the form of graphics flickering and artefacts. Everything started off fine but after a few minutes things started to deteriate. Here was my orginal thread in the FC2 section:http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1045411#post1045411 I have since removed my Nvidia drivers 260.99, used driver sweeper from 3D Guru to remove any remnants while in Windows safe mode. I then installed older drivers 257.21 but the same problem persisted. I can only conclude that it is not a driver problem. My system is as per my sig below. I recenlty built a new rig. The new parts were the core components such as motherboard, processor, memory, and a new hard drive. What I kept over from my old system were the Seasonic M12 600W PSU (installed in old system December 2006) and the graphics card EVGA GTX260 (installed in old system early 2009). The old system was a Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz CPU which I had overclocked from 2.4 up to 3.2 for about a year. Could it be that my PSU that I carried over from this time is failing or not delivering reliably juice to GPU? Or could it be my new tri-channel RAM. Not sure which direction I should look in? :helpsmilie:

Well I'm now convinced I have some sort of hardware problem. I also installed DCS Blackshark on my new rig and I get the same types of stutters and graphical glitches and also graphical artifacts. I can get into both sims but after a short time of flight I get graphical flickering along with artifacts on screen.

My suspicion is that I may not have allowed the install to update Direct X. I think I may have opted to ignore this during the install. Could this be the problem? I have decided to uninstall and re-install Do I need to deactivate first and then uninstall? Is this the correct procedure for re-installing the Flaming Cliffs 2?

I have the original Lockon disc and the Flamming Cliffs 2.0 disc. I installed the original Lockon 1.0 disc first. I didn't bother to even run Lockon as I thought it just needs to be on your system before you install FC2. Then after installing Lockon I installed the Flamming Cliffs 2.0 disc. Is that not the correct install procedure?

Hi guys, I thought I would install FC2 on my new system and give it a go. I previously flew Lockon with the FC addon 1.12 without any real problem. So the other day I installed first Lockon vanilla version 1.0 disk that I had since it came out years ago. Secondly I installed Flaming Cliffs 2 disc on my system. I have not installed any mods or anything at all. The only thing I installed was Lockon 1.0 disc followed by Flaming Cliffs 2 disc. I get crashes/freezes when playing a track or when flying an aircraft via quickstart. My sig has my system specs. I don't think my system is unstable as I have stress tested my system after I built it with Super PI. I haven't had any overheating issues. The only other game on my new system build is GTR2 driving sim and I haven't had crashes or problmes with this. As per the troubleshooting thread instructions I have attached my DXDIAG report and have also found CRASH and ERROR files within my Eagle Dynamics\LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2\Temp" folder and I have posted these here also. For some reason I couldn't upload these two error.txt files and the .crash file so I put them all into a RAR file. Hence in the RAR are Error.txt, errors.txt, and a DCS-20101129-190654.crash file. Any ideas on where I should go from here. I'm desperate to get back into Lockon FC2 series before moving across to DCS. :helpsmilie: DxDiag.txt Crash problem.rar

Yes. It says it in the bottom right hand corner of the image, "Modman 7.3 or later required".

So this is an all in one mod combining many of the best Lockon FC2 mods out there into one convenient pack?

Lucky you. :)

Are 2GB of Video Ram Any Useful For FlightSims?
Konovalov replied to BKLronin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I very much doubt it. 2gb is for much bigger than 24 inch screens with all the bells and whistles turned on such as AA. -
That sounds seriously wrong idling at 80. Sounds like you stuffed up your modding of the cooler because that idle temp is far above what it should be. Dare I ask what the card temps are under load? Possibly good for toasting marshmallows.

Poor mans FERMI: NVIDIA 460GTX
Konovalov replied to Pilotasso's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Rusty M, I like your choice of card too. Looks like a great bang for buck value buy and I read an excellent review on it a couple of weeks ago at Hexus. Just make sure the length of the card (242mm) won't cause any problems in your case because it is a bit longer than a stock GTX460. -
They are bad for your health. :D Back to the thread. DCS A10 is still in beta. It's not the end product. Secondly have you checked out the detailed damage modeling offered in this survey sim? DCS explosions are fine. They are not a turn off or a game-breaker. I would suggest you wait and give it another chance. Not to mention there are some pretty great modders in this community so it is entirely possible that there will be many eye candy mods released after release.
