  1. Could not agree more with the first part there. Ambisonics seem interestning. It's the first time I've heard about it. Thx for sharing that.
  2. Was that a friggin Tie fighter i saw !? Edit: The description is hilarious :D
  3. I'm not saying every DCS user should go out and buy dedicated soundcards :D With average headphones, that's just a waste of money anyway, and DCS don't need that kind of sound perfection. It does not even need surround sound in my opinion to be enjoyed. It's just a bonus you get if you already have some kind of surround setup for other reasons. I certainly did not have DCS in mind when getting an 700$ headphone setup for my PC. That's because I'm a hobby musician and audiophile.
  4. Vague hint? You clearly have not heard good simulation through a good pair of headphones with proper amplification and DAC. I never use my Z5500 5.1 speaker setup anymore. Sure it is way better than the average headphones but my headphone setup beats the crap out of it even when it comes to positional audio. Why? Becouse the simulated surround i get in the headphones is in a perfectly inert enviroment. The speakers have the downside of being affected by the room they are placed in.
  5. I have glasses but they don't pose a problem. Your's must be really shiny :D I do get some noise in the background if the sun is in a certain spot during the afternoon so I have to darken the room.
  6. Don't use the standalone DCS A10C. It's outdated. You need DCS: World. The icon is greyed out because you did not activate it. All you have to do is put in your serial number and it will go active!
  7. It seems this was fixed in todays update.
  8. Well, DH is not intended to put you in the game environment. Instead it puts you in a simulated room with a simulated speaker system. It does this by stereo channel crossfeed, reverb and HRTF. That can be an disadvantage I guess but at the same time it has advantages too. The disadvantage: Does not put your head in the environment of the game The advantage: Works with anything (not just games) that outputs multichannel sound. I have heard both good and bad implementations of DH. For example on my laptop with crappy soundcard there is a checkbox for DH on/off. This is the bad implementation. The good one is on my desktop with Esscence STX soundcard and HD650 headphones. The soundcard has DH built into it's drivers and it allows for custom DH settings, not just on/off. This means I can tell the DH software how many channels it should use, what kind of room I want to sit in etc. When used right, this setup can be very convincing without actually doing much unnecessary damage to the sound.
  9. Dolby Headphone is not just "2D panning" It uses head related transfer function. In the example vid the effect is way to pronounced and the sound behind the listener sounds wierd and muffled. Dolby Headphone actually does it better.
  10. Hello! When I go from the menu into the sim, this screen here (see below) shows for an unusual long period of time. In previous versions I think it was a matter of seconds. Now, with 1.2.8 open beta it's stuck there for minutes. If I click anywhere in the window it says the application "does not respond" but the sim still launches if I don't end the process.
  11. Nice to see old cockpits and flight models getting replaced by new stuff, that is up to par with the rest of DCS:World. It makes a big difference!
  12. Thats "TacView" It's a great tool.
  13. I just think they are trying to avoid infringing on trademarks. Name does not matter anyway. It's the product that is important.
  14. Go to "third party projects" and then "leatherneck simulations" on this forum and see for yourself.
  15. Very generous ED. Thank you very much. Will spend more money when more modules are released. At the moment I have them all so there are no modules to spend money on. :)
  16. It simply means that you don't need the original Lock On to install Flaming Cliffs 3. Thats all there is too it...
  17. DCS Mig-21BIS Merry Christmas everyone !
  18. DCS is very CPU intensive so it's not the graphics card that is limiting your FPS. You are likely to see an improvement in other, less CPU intensive titles.
  19. As already said, the 25T is a lot heavier and it also have a big hump (to fit avionics) behind the cockpit that makes the fuselage less slick. ED have done a good job tuning the flight models. :)
  20. Yep, I'm aware of that. Sadly I'm not in that group of people :(
  21. This was a long time ago but I remember someone, possibly Wags said it's going to be payware. To give away this massive piece of work for free does not seem realistic anyway.
  22. Yea, sorry for the sidetrack. I just wanted to bring the facts since I saw some people were discussing it. It has nothing to do with my own opinion about what planes should be created.
  23. I don't see why it's soo hard to belive that brits dropped more bomb tonnage than US? I will give you the numbers right here for the years 39 to 45: Dropped in Germany: RAF: 964,644 tons USAAF: 623,418 tons Edit: I think US dropped more if you look outside Europe. I just wanted to clarify that before being bashed :)
  24. Updating now... Excited to see release log once it is published.
