Show me your mad dogfight skills (FW190D9 Version)
fastfreddie replied to super_baloo's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
5 kill on furball mission and almost a 7 kill run. Friendly finished off one before I could do it and was having gun/generator problems on the last one. Definitely a fun mission if you get bored with the single head to head mission. 5killfurball.trk -
Recommended Reading on USAF-operated MiG-21s - 'Red Eagles'
fastfreddie replied to britgliderpilot's topic in MiG-21Bis
Ft. Polk uses Russian Helos, tank, and bmps to simulate OPFOR for training US ground units. Not sure if the Mi24s and other helos were originals with US engines for practical reasons or replicas but they play the part. Wouldn't be surprised if other training facilities do the same thing. A little surprised that they had 13 mig 21s but I'm sure this gave our pilots valuable training. -
Got to figure out the best way to program the 2 stage trigger on my Warthog for this. It isn't reading the change from stage 1 to stage 2 so the Mg131/mg151 guns wouldn't work. Changed it back to the original space bar command for now.

Celebrate 50 years of the huey being in service
fastfreddie replied to Soulres's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Got to see a Huey yesterday putting out a forest fire here in Montana. They stopped traffic on the highway to let the bird come down to the river with its bucket and lift off to carry another load. This must of went on for hours because when I returned to the same area about 4 hours later they were still doing it. -
Period ground units and Ai planes would being a bigger deal to me and probably most of the mission makers around here. Period Units can be thrown in on any map to make them playable or more realistic. Sadly we're playing second fiddle to the F18 modern sim lovers because we aren't that important. :smartass:

:( Not another year of ZSU 23-4s on the current map ... and I'm saying a year being optimistic. Hopefully they can pump these things out quicker when edge is finished.
-
I'm guessing the F18 must be pretty far along if they are giving its map precedent over the WWII map. To be honest WWII AI is more important to me because it could be included in the current map. Much rather be attacking Shermans, Panthers, and B17s than the ZSU 23-4 or M113 even if its on the current map.

Good video. Didn't like the shooting of horses very much ... I'll make sure the wife never sees that one. I think they had one pilot that said he could hear the German shooting at him with his cannons(11:25). I guess if the sound is louder than your engine it should be audible (20mm or 30mm) but most of them always said they couldn't hear anything. Does our tail wheels operate like the one at 7:50 in any of the current planes?

Last time I did a system build I used the current gen tech instead of the i5/i7 and regretted it greatly a few years later when I tried to update things like Ram/processor. When I built my system it was the same old line of you'll never need more than 4gig of ram. 3 years later this ended up being very wrong and my ram usage is hitting 100% at times now while the pc is around 60-80% range. I'll be playing Star Citizen also which seems is going to incorporate as much new tech as possible and I do hope to get a 4k setup in a year or two. I understand that DCS may not require anything extra right now and we don't know what EDGE will do for us yet. For about an extra $500-600 hundred I can get an X99 setup that I will atleast be able to upgrade if needed in a few years.

From what I could tell from the site that Nick10 provide with google translate the Yak9 and La-9 were in some process of development but the money wasn't right or something. They didn't really go into any detail and were very vague. Check the link Nick10 provided and they also had a built out for the Me262 for DCS shown also. WinterH-I hope Veao can pop some older frames out quickly because I don't see where the P-40 is going to fit in right now. It would get slaughtered against the Dora and K4. Of coarse with the Bearcat being slated for next year the Axis planes will have their hands full.

Before the Dora came out I was kinda up in the air how I felt about the Mustang. Now I think its the best plane out there right now. I still fly my Dora all the time trying to master certain maneuvers and gunnery that were easier in the Mustang. Did you guys change the mandatory graphics settings on your server? My frame rate has dropped to shit this week on the DoW server. I'll be building a new system soon so that hopefully won't be a problem anymore.

I'm looking at the 5930K because I've got a Core 2 Duo with 4 gigs of Ram and its doesn't even run the current DCS modules very well or at all with all the AAA units. I saw one review that said the 5930k got 10fps better on BF4 than the 5820k on ultra hd settings so look around for other reviews if your thinking of 4k one day. I'll wait alittle bit longer for more reviews and products to come out before I pick a motherboard/ram/Gpu. Probably going to grab a 5930k at microcenter when I'm in Atlanta next week since they have them on a great deal.

Yeah don't get to discouraged and like Art J says they fly with perfect everything management. To be honest you should never probably be flying at full speed in formation to begin with because in coordinated turns the inner aircraft in the turn need to reduce speed and the outer planes need to increase speed to keep formation.

[FW 190D-9] FW190D9 Stab_SG 2 Grossenhain 1945 Sneakpreview
fastfreddie replied to Mainstay's topic in Fw 190 D-9
I'm mostly talking about the cracks in the paint on top of the wings and tail where no one should be walking. Great job on the skins and I love alot of the skins you fellas are producing. -

You got to think these things stayed nasty especially underneath considering they were being hid in forest and taking off in fields. Is the weathering too much for the top of the plane though? It's not like these planes saw years of service and I'd imagine paint deterioration on the top as being less severe considering the short time span the Dora was in service. -
I was going to bring up the arming of the weapons also as a possible battery draining device along with the gun sight. One of the first things I see start flicking are those red lights by the ammo counter. Battle damage seems to like getting the generator pretty often affecting everything else and I'd imagine hard landings could have an effect. Shouldn't really see the battery going down just flying around at a acceptable rpm unless this was a poorly designed part of the Dora.

TM Warthog throttle repair
fastfreddie replied to Grizzly1606688174's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So this happen because of a small power fluctuation when moving cords around? I just got my warthog at Christmas but winter weather was reeking havoc on my Warthog. The first thing I would do before touching my desk would be to static discharge on a metal chair in my office. If I touched the desk the Warthog would act like I unplugged it and re plugged it into the computer. -
So it looks like the Yak9U and the La-9 were being built for a possible inclusion into DCS but money may have killed it for now. I doubt seriously that DCS would use any work created for another company if they were paid for it like the IL4. It would have to come from scratch but it is great that it has atleast been researched. The Eastern fronts air war doesn't get the recognition of that on the Western front but it was huge with large losses on both sides. Air ground support was especially critical and widely used on this front. I'm sure lots of air battles occurred in our current map but with earlier aircraft than the Dora.
-
Have you flown the trainer version of the Mustang yet? If you enjoyed it I would jump on any preorder aircraft you may want and definitely get the others on sale at some point. To be honest the Mustang is a great aircraft for beginners and is probably the best combat WWii plane at this time in my opinion. Easy to fly and gunnery isn't nearly as difficult as the Dora. Enjoy them now instead of next year (this time?).

Russian Planes in DCS I've never really seen it talked about and none of the third parties have announced doing a model of any of the Russian WWII aircraft that I've seen. Is there no documentation for them or flying examples left for the migs, La-5s, or yaks? This seems to be true for the Japanese side of things also. I know that EDs plate is full for the next year but has there been any discussion.

question about the dora flight characteristics
fastfreddie replied to tobaschi's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
OP-reduce rpm when you are at cruising speed to around 2200 range to reduce the torque effect. If you get it set at the right altitude and speed its close to perfect trim. -

fastfreddie replied to Mainstay's topic in Fw 190 D-9
Got to be honest. Probably may favorite skin and German planes looks so much better than their counter parts in the paint category. -
We've had the Dora for about a month and the BF109 is still 2+ months from being released in beta. Dora is a great plane that should prep you for some of the future challenges of the K-4 (airfields are going to be a train wreck). It will probably be 2 or 3 months after the K-4 that the IX Spit should arrive so be ready because plenty of WWII planes are in the pipeline.
-
I doubt the 109 will have as many problems as the 190 but you never know till it arrives. If you know its something you will purchase go ahead and get it with the discount knowing it can have some bugs. These aircraft are no where near the complexity of helicopters or modern jets so most of the bugs seem to be graphic or damage model in nature and generally aren't game breaking or required functional systems.

It would great for a third party come in and do something great. Fully fleshed out vehicles with realistic modeling like in the aircraft models. Could even split it up into different packs like US, RU, Euro and considering the WWII part of DCS is coming on strong they could do period pacts (1936-1959)/(1960-modern). It would be great playing a very well simulated Panther blowing away Shermans until a P51 or Tempest comes rolling in for a rocket attack.
