May want to open a separate thread if you don't get a response. I've got some questions about the radiator also because I've blown alot of engines using it and not using it. Sometimes I've had failures when the temps were well under 100 and wonder if that is because I was using MW50 (didn't exceed 5 minutes) with the temperature to low. I've also had engines die when circle climbing above an enemy with the radiator open because I've had it die both ways doing that maneuver .

I will patrol the area around the allied base to try to get someone to come up but hate strafing guys on the ground and would rather not jump them the second they lift off (or deal with AAA). If someone gets in a bad position the smarter pilots will separate and climb for a better position. Nothing great about getting yourself blown up to give someone else a thrill and not using your planes advantages. One other thing... it is very hard to spot targets below you especially from more than 2k up. I can watch someone taxi down the runway and loose them the second they depart so if your looking for action go to the flak.

Don't know if it can be any worse than the first week after the Dora released but you fellas can give it a try. :smartass:

Pretty much the way I've been recommending it along with slowing dropping the stick in the 150-170km range. You can keep tap dancing the rudder until about 200 km and it should lift off. Setup a quick start mission with a runway start so you don't have to keep doing the startup sequence and keep trying till you get it. I don't recommend practicing on online servers until you get the hang of it because of lag.

To be honest the best thing could be to have a determined dogfight grid square and altitude range 3-4k meters so that people looking for each can find a fight. We've done this a couple of times on our own on the DoW server which worked out. I will say that having it in an area without flak giving away one side would be great. Can't wait to get into some kind of organized squads one day.

Anyone has p51 online dogfight vs Dora?
fastfreddie replied to Pandacat's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I've haven't seen the Mustang pilots having any trouble with the Dora unless they lack experience. The 2 most important factors in match ups so far are who spots the other first and who has a altitude advantage. I wouldn't consider the Mustang a turn fighter to start with even through if handled correctly it should turn with or out turn a Dora. Spits or Zeros were great turn fighters but the Mustang can handle its own. Almost a bigger problem for Mustangs pilots is almost total lack of any teamwork. You get jumped by 2 or 3 Dora pilots and the outcome is pretty much decided unless your DavidRed. American success in almost every theater was dictated by tactics and numbers. -
Also you get off the ground very quickly so there is less time fooling around with rudder controls. Now on these hammerhead directions because the Dora seems very different than the P51 in hammerheads. I've had the engine cut out if I cut the throttle to soon and she doesn't seem to like to stall like the Mustang. I can generally get the Mustang to fall over for me in style but the Dora puts up a fight most of the way. It also seems to take much longer for me to recover complete control in the Dora.

Its really is a pretty good match with each having its advantages but not outclassing the other even when they do. On the DoW server the P51 seems to have a slight advantage in numbers but that isn't a problem. Problem is that spotting in notoriously hard and people are having trouble getting into dogfights. -
50 cal Ballistics/Aircraft Damage Model Questions/Concerns
fastfreddie replied to USARStarkey's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Landed 37 20mm shots and more than that in 13mm with some bringing in much higher numbers. 160 hit just means you had great target practice against the AI. :pilotfly: -
50 cal Ballistics/Aircraft Damage Model Questions/Concerns
fastfreddie replied to USARStarkey's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Its pretty safe to say that weapons testing against the Ai in no way reflects the damage models of human aircraft. It may be harder to get a shot on human players but they go down much easier whether its total destruction or losing an engine. -
I aim for the drop of the cannon rounds (red tracer) not for the green rounds (13mm) so I tend to land pretty close to the same number anyway but sometimes I'll only land 20s with the 13 overshooting. After getting better at aiming the FW190 ... atleast against the Ai I'm not totally sure the 20s are way underpowered. Problem seems that if you only hit 5-10 here and there the AI just keeps taking it. If you get in a great quick burst and land a combined number around 50 cannon/13mm rounds she goes down quickly. These burst would be very concentrated to a couple of small areas.

Half the satisfaction of playing DCS sims is finally getting that first takeoff/landing right and then being able to do it 3,4,5 times in a row. Those are some of my favorite moments or when you finally (get it) in the more complicated combat system parts of the Blackshark or A10C. If your just looking to get something into the air and fly around the A10C is actually not very hard to get off the ground. Just keep practicing and some servers host help sessions plus there is always tutorials on youtube.

[REPORTED] FW190 broken parts float in air

Should I make a windscreen bullet hole thread? -

fastfreddie replied to damar's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Hey Sith can we just get a sticky bug thread for the Dora. I noticed that when the bail out sequence started that my windscreen had been shot up but the damage didn't appear while I was flying. I paused to use the F2 view and it also showed the damage (3 separate bullet holes) that weren't visible while flying. -
What do you want in a MP or SP mission?
fastfreddie replied to Charly_Owl's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I've been thinking about diving in and learning the editor to make some simple missions. Basically setup a frontline area maybe around a city but actually have units for one side attacking with the other one defending. Not sure how the triggering system works but would have the attacking side either waiting for a resupply convoy or moving to a certain point and having it pause for supplies. Defending side would be rushing reinforcements to the front so there would be ground attack possibilities for both sides. You could also put in an area where bridges come into play. Include light flak in the convoy and in the frontline areas to make it fun. This is something I've been toying with making when when I get time to learn the system. Could throw in some Ai air units to cover the convoy route so Air to air guys are happy when servers are empty. Not sure if I can setup Air Ai units to attack ground units to make it important to cover the ground units ASAP. Maybe set the bases as the final destination of ground forces to make that portion just as important. -
Yep between the 109 and IX spit coming the DoW server may have to expand lol.
-
Ok I'm thoroughly enjoying my FW190 and was wondering if we got any recent pictures or info on how the 109 is coming along? DoW server has seen pretty good activity since the FW release and can't wait to see other birds on it.

TM Warthog use of flaps and engine start
fastfreddie replied to Wissam24's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Don't have any f15 or f16 keys on my keyboard or are these just some virtual keys . Currently just have it mapped to the down, left, right arrow but would love to get it mapped to the pinky leaver like your talking about. One for center/reset and hold for pause. Ok... got the down arrow mapped on Target so it does work in centering the trackir. Any way I can use Gui to also recognize the pause feature(right arrow in my case) when I hold it down. I try to use one profile for all flight game on trackir and the arrow keys are usually always available. -
I've noticed that the FW190 has this feature atleast somewhat modeled. I took damage on takeoff once and banged up one of the wing losing an aileron. Still managed to get it into the air and proceeded to enter a dogfight. On the first hard turn the wing snapped and down I went. As far as the original question about having an actual physics engine that can track each of the thousands of rounds that may be fired in an instance during a match, tract there trajectory, and then determine if they can pass through A,B, and C depending on the angle/distance. I don't think we have overall internet bandwidth or average computer systems that could handle all that. Even games like Star Citizen which are trying to develop the most sophisticated damage systems still use damage to associated areas of impact because true physics aren't really possible.

TM Warthog use of flaps and engine start
fastfreddie replied to Wissam24's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
How do I set up the Trackir in the Targets Gui software? Do I have to go to the DCS commands and set up trackir in there first and its so which commands do I use? -
TM Warthog use of flaps and engine start
fastfreddie replied to Wissam24's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Shagrat-It is very true that setting up hotas controls can piss some off very quickly. I never got into Blackshark for that same reason when I had my X52. I found target for the Warthog pretty easy to get around with except for a few things here and there. It would be great if they made defaults for the 4 or 5 biggest joysticks surveyed or something. Fortunately the P51/FW190 were pretty easy to setup since they don't have collectives and 400 functions to program. -
Some people may want to try and see if this helps out. Set the wingspan to whatever aircraft and don't set it to the current distance(unless it flying straight) but to what distance you think it will be at when its in firing position. This is usually a much closer range and the sight doesn't move around as much so just as the target comes into the sight picture you can fire. This sight may not need to recalculate its current aiming position and thus be more accurate but I'd like to see if this helps others. The FW190 seems to catch climbing targets at low altitudes quickly and this may help you get a firing solution quicker. Also its a much steadier sight at these close distances for things like head-on attacks.

Cannon damage or how the DM perceives the damage needs a reworking. Just landed 37 cannon rounds and more than I was will to count mg but she would not go down (Ai). Most of these landed on the one wing or the fuselage. Ai was polluting the air with the 3 white trails coming from the one wing.

Good find and I don't remember seeing this in the manual. Had anyone else seen a high number of EZ42's being disabled due to gunfire? Probably the most common battle damage I've seen to the Dora and almost to the level of disabled governors on the P51.
