  1. Looking good. What are you doing sensor wise? It looked like it was jumping around but I'm sure your not finished yet.
  2. Can't help you with the throttle because I use a Warthog which has its own workaround. I set the trim buttons with Dx and I'm not sure its going to work on a wheel like the P51.
  3. For the guys who have figured out how to taxi pretty good set up a quick mission with a runway start. Engine is already going so just move on down the runway and once you get used to takeoffs just turn around to practice landings. I see people trying to practice on the online servers and I don't think that is a good idea. Slight lag is enough to deal with when you know how to takeoff but trying to learn in it is a bad idea. I must of saw one guy yesterday crash a dozen times in a row and he even quit doing the taxi to the runway.
  4. I have more problems aiming with the 190 because of its design more than anything. Engine cowls and the cockpit design have limited views of the target from certain angles. Just something I'll have to learn to deal with but it is very hard to properly aim when you come down on someone and they start to pull up because they disappear where you have to aim to score hits. I don't think the window bar thing would solve this either because the sight sits to low and the Dora has a very long nose.
  5. Maybe a walk through video of the cockpit (radio, radiator, other gauges/buttons) would be nice and a tutorial of bombing ground targets would help but other than that the already released videos are pretty good. This isn't a Ka50 or A10c with complicated subsystems and I really don't expect any great campaigns till the Normandy map, B17, or ground units are finished.
  6. You got to remember most real P51 pilots were usually engaged over enemy territory and probably quite far from a friendly airfield. Probably not a great idea to cook your engine unless you had no other choice.
  7. So is there a reason not to model internal damage on Ai aircraft? Does it use to many of the systems resources or something? Can't imagine what we'll have to do to an Ai B17 when it gets here.
  8. Killed one engine in less than 5 minutes by doing a long spiral climb against the Ai yesterday. Didn't realize it would affect the cooling that much.
  9. What I've done to be successful with takeoffs and landings. 1. Reduced saturation levels for the rudder. 2. Increased resistance in my Saitek rudders petals. 3. Get lined up and pull the stick back to lock the tail wheel. 4. Full throttle with slight right rudder immediately. 5. As soon as it starts to correct to the right start wiggling the rudder with slight left/right quick successions. 6. Drop the nose gently in the 150-180 range and then apply slight right rudder as it will pull left slightly. You may or may not have to keep using the wiggling strategy till it lifts off. I use no brakes on takeoff and no assists at all. Landings Final Approach in the 250-280 range. Once I hit the runway area try in to be in the 220 range. Like Jcomm says reduce power and flare like crazy. The plane doesn't seems to stall very easily so don't worry about that. Fluctuate left/right braking to slow it down or keep it straight.
  10. You have to trip the circuit breaker on the second smaller panel. The little red button next to the navigation lights.
  11. I think I've seen it stated that Ai planes don't get the internal components modeled for damage that human players do. If this is the case what is the reason not to model everything damage wise for the Ai. I understand they don't need clickable cockpits and such but do they get the rest. I put more than 35 rounds on target in head-on passes against the P51 plus more coming up from behind to no satisfying ending. He ended landing 4 rounds which killed my engine in another head on pass. I love that I got shot down with 4 rounds but it never seems to happen the other way.
  12. I never realized I had takeoff assist on with the Mustang till a couple of weeks ago when I got on the DoW server. I'd never had used it if I'd known it was on and I have a harder time taking off the Mustang than the Dora. I've pretty much got the Dora perfected and can get the Mustang in the air now.
  13. Thanks for hosting it Merlin. I had a great time on there yesterday and was able to get off the ground without too much stuttering. You may have to change to some airports with multiple runways if its going to be packed with 20+ people. The Luftwaffe base was hard to takeoff from with all the craters and corpses in the way. :megalol:
  14. Good landing. I think once people learn to pull up right before you touch down landings will be a breeze. Have you tried just going full blast from the beginning of takeoff .... get off the ground pretty quick that way.
  15. FW190 probably shouldn't try to turn with a P51 unless they are both going very slow. FW190 seems very stable in low speeds where the P51 likes to stall out. Better to pull up and do a high yo-yo to retain energy advantage for a FW in the situation your describing. It works for the P51 also. Biggest problem I saw from P51s tonight on the DOW server was them flying 50m off the ground. I'd imagine a lot of us haven't played the P51 as much lately since its been around for quite awhile by itself. Plus there may be some new P51 players with the release of the backer keys for WWii. It will even out probably just in time for the BF109 to shake everything up.
  16. A lot of us had airfields looking like that but read the suggestions and take a break every few tries. I was having a horrible go at it till last night when I figured it out.
  17. I think its so lopsided when you were on because is a "new" plane. When I got on it had more P51 pilots on there than FW190s. I've got more respect for the P51 now because I've flown something different against it for the first time and see its capabilities.
  18. I thought the P51 kept firing even if you killed the engine(wing mounted weapons) and just wanted to know if this was a feature considering the FW190 fires 2 guns threw the prop. Is there a reason the prop just stops dead flat if its injured/collision or shoot off? Don't know if I should file a bug report but I was messing around dogfighting the Ai and decided to try using takeoff flaps when pulling up going about 600kph. Snapped both wings off but I could still control the aircraft for quite awhile. I didn't know if this was like the F15(real life) missing the wing and landing thing because his speed was so high or a bug. I continued to go quite a while at 600kph but it went down once I lost speed.
  19. How do I post a track? Finally got the takeoff down and the landings are getting better. Did a takeoff and landing in less than 3 minutes. Best way I've found now is pull the stick back, full throttle, then it will initially pull slightly to the left so apply a slight amount of rudder to the right. As soon as it starts to correct to the right start wiggling the rudder with slight left/right quick successions. Slowing drop the nose in the 170-200 range and then apply slight right rudder as it will pull left slightly. You may or may not have to keep using the wiggling strategy. Don't know how well it will work for the guys without rudder pedals.
  20. Thanks. Good to know for future modules (BF109).
  21. So I can just select whatever DX 1-32(?) that I like and there are no preassigned values that will get messed up somewhere else? I'm pretty good with assigning keys with the Pulse, Hold, etc keyboard commands but sometimes they don't work the way you like.
  22. To be honest it is pretty easy to get to that 12-16k range in the FW190. Spotting has seemed to improve since the 1.29 patch also. I don't see what everyone is whining about yet. Have P51s been getting slaughtered in the Human P51 v Human FW190 servers yet? I'm no Erich Hartmann but in the battles with Ai it can be very competitive to get a clean shot. I can't imagine what people are going to be complaining about when the Spit or Bearcat arrive.
  23. I can live with it the way it is ... the gun cowls or whatever will be in the way most of the time and if your doing deflection shooting without starting to fire by the time the reticle reaches that point anyway your probably going to miss.
  24. You and madcats suggestions worked perfect. One question how do you know what buttons to assign to DX if I need to do this in the future?
  25. How do I use DX commands to assign the button?
