  1. The Rift CV1 uses external IR sensors and tracks IR LEDs on your headset. It can do so in total darkness. The Rift S, however, use inside-out tracking by cameras on the headset. The cameras need to see the surroundings in order to track. Basically, if it’s too dark they can’t see.
  2. To you. The way I see it, there will always be someone advocating another variant to suit this or that era/theater/country. I remember the original IL-2 series, that had some 30 versions of the Me-109. I’m not convinced that this made it superior. So unless you make every available version, someone is going to complain. And, there’s also a cost/benefit ratio that must be considered. The developer may err on the side of plausibility and makes a module that can simulate different versions in one, if you know what I mean. If your version didn’t have Sidewinders, don’t add them. Pretend a little. That’s my take on this, anyway.
  3. Yes. None of those are 100% exact simulations of their real counterparts. And they too simulate a specific configuration which won’t fit in every situation.
  4. Exactly... The Sabre isnt’t perfect and doesn’t fit any map perfectly. A certain amount of make-believe is needed, and that’s my point. Would a certain version or sub version of the Sabre actually add that much to the simulated experience..? I doubt it.
  5. Or, could we accept that it falls within the realms of plausibility, and that the current version caters to a larger crowd, who may want to simulate Sabres of varying nationalities?
  6. And I must appologize for that... I meant 80FPS, which is max on the Rift S. I’ve been up since 03:30. That’s my excuse ;) I actually got 90 FPS on the Rift CV1, as well, but more frequent dips into 45 ASW. With the Rift S I could set Pixel density back at 1.0 and still get a better picture than the CV1 while also getting better performance. I guess 10 frames less every second helps too...
  7. If this was a real Sabre, I wouldn’t be allowed to fly it. At least not an armed one. And if I were to do it anyway, and shoot some sod down with it, I’d be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But this is a simulator, so I pretend I can do it anyway... I wonder if anyone understood what I meant by that? ;)
  8. My Rift S performs well enough on a OC:d i7 8700k @5GHz, 32Gb RAM and a 1080ti. But, I have lowered the graphics settings quite a bit. No MSAA, low and flat shadows, etc. I get 90FPS, most of the time with occasional dips into 45 and ASW, in single player.
  9. Really? You don’t know how to google? :smilewink: https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/50711/what-are-the-keys-for-asw There’s no indicator other than your FPS counter showing you when the game is capped at 45 or not. You do need a keypad/numpad on your keyboard though, and you have to check that num lock isn’t activated. Do you want me to support that claim as well, or may I assume that it is standard keyboard knowledge? ;)
  10. What claim would that be? The Win8 requirement is right there in the link I gave you. The key combos for ASW is pretty much common knowledge and available of you google it. The last claim I made was that no PC would be able to run DCS at the highest graphics settings at 90FPS was not complete. I forgot to mention ”in VR” :) You need to lower your settings in order to achieve 90 FPS, or suffer the artifacts of ASW, until they incorporate ASW2, or turn ASW off and suffer the frame losses. Many users actually prefer turning ASW off. Any time the Oculus software is running. You can also use the Oculus Tray Tool, to change your ASW settings.
  11. This is because ASW doesn’t work on pre Win8. https://developer.oculus.com/blog/asynchronous-spacewarp/ Tl;dr is that ASW, while making the image smoother if the game can’t maintain 90 FPS, means it creates artifacts that present themselves as double image, tearing and warping. in Win 10 you can turn ASW off by pressing Ctrl and KeyPad 1. CTRL+KP1 - Disable ASW and USE ATW CTRL+KP2 - Force apps to 45hz, DISABLE ASW CTRL+KP3 - Force apps to 45hz, ENABLE ASW CTRL+KP4 - Enable ASW to operate automatically Also, no computer will be able to run DCS at the highest graphical settings at 90 FPS.
  12. MilesD, your inbox is still full. Did you get my message with my email, the other day?
  13. Yes. I’ve tried it on both blue and red USB 3 ports.
  14. Try lowering some graphics settings. MSAA and shadows are very demanding. Perhaps you should start out with the VR preset and take it from there.
  15. Is this ASW artifacts that you’re seeing? What is your FPS? Don’t know if you are familiar with how the Oculus software works, but if the game can’t maintain a full 80 FPS, the ASW feature will force it down to 40 FPS, and then create fake frames to fill up the missing 40 frames, every second. This means that the software will have to extrapolate from the previous two frames, to create the next frame and this will cause some graphical artifacts that may present themselves as judder. Try turning ASW off by pressing CTRL KeyPad 1. Here are the associated shortcuts. CTRL+KP1 - Disable ASW CTRL+KP2 - Force apps to 45hz, DISABLE ASW CTRL+KP3 - Force apps to 45hz, ENABLE ASW CTRL+KP4 - Enable ASW to operate automatically
  16. :megalol: I did too! But then I reached the conclusion that the brazing rods were useless. Once I got proper rods, it was easy. Got to be careful with thin alu material though...
  17. I learned how to braze aluminium, for my seat build. It’s not as strong as a weld, but strong enough for something like this. Fun too! Not too hard to learn either. I’d say that if you can learn how to solder, you can learn brazing.
  18. Thanks, Tundra and sk000tch! I love building things and I think I have spent more time building my sim, than flying it :prop: Yeah, VR has limitations of it’s own... :) I have the TM MFD’s, but I haven’t added them to the SimBox. Maybe I should try that..? :shifty:
  19. Here’s my handbrake build. Not using a bicycle brake handle, but may give you some ideas anyway... https://forums.mudspike.com/t/handbrake-another-crazy-diy/3735
  20. You can just bend those headbands like this. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3933015&postcount=1127
  21. You could make your own... Here’s a pic of my old racing car seat, in which I made a center stick cut out, and my new seat. Here’s the build thread for my VR pit and seat. https://forums.mudspike.com/t/simbox-ng/6526/396 Here’s a thread for the conversion of a car seat to flightsim seat, https://forums.mudspike.com/t/new-seat-for-the-simbox/6105
  22. ^ This How hard can it be to understand this simple fact? People are different. I loved flightsims back in the 80’s. Sim viewing evolved to PoV hats and that was great! Then padlock views were invented and really boosted situational awereness. The virtual cockpit became a thing and you could scroll around using a mouse, which was awesome. Then Naturalpoint made the TrackIR and it blew me away! Now I have VR, and it’s the next evolutionary step...for me. VR isn’t perfect, but it’s better than all earlier view systems, IMO. If anybody don’t agree and think pre-VR views were better, that’s perfectly ok with me. I sure won’t lose any sleep over it. To each their own.
  23. Here’s my Eject handle. The thread covers the first and last version. I basically set it up to send multiple button activations that then is assigned in DCS like a regular joystick input. https://forums.mudspike.com/t/eject-eject-eject/2985/107
  24. Cool solution. Here’s what I did. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3933015&postcount=1127
  25. It’s more of a on demand production. The panels are replicas from real panels and can be bought with or without switches.
