  1. I can confirm that the flares do work, and since I cannot remember editing the .lua file to assign the joystick button, I must have done it the usual way. Maybe the assignment has been added in a recent update? I believe I let the sim regenerate my controller .luas after 1.2.7 was released. The reason I haven't seen the flares before was indeed because they were not carried in the campaign missions.
  2. Sweet! Rep inbound.
  3. I was able to assign the button to my stick (G940), and the button on the pedestal does move, but so far I haven't seen any flares... although I'm not sure if I've ever carried any flares either. Have to play around with it tonight.
  4. Those two insurgents are indeed immortal. The option is set in their advanced waypoint actions, and I couldn't find a trigger that would unset the option. If a blue unit reaches the trigger area for mission completion, any remaining insurgents would be despawned - but they always manage to waste the blue troops before that. Maybe they are supposed to run out of ammo, allowing the blue units to proceed? I deleted those two units and was able to complete the mission, but it doesn't feel quite right. However, I did try everything, including landing on them in my usual not-so-gentle fashion :)
  5. This happened to me once with the Huey; after starting a new mission the stick was off-center and I had to exit the sim and unplug the stick as well to reset it.
  6. I found BigfootMSR's training missions very helpful with the Shark - have to review them again before jumping into the campaign. EDIT: changed the link to match the one in post #18 - thanks, P*Funk!
  7. For me, landings went from "Steady now... watch the VVI... gently reduce the airspeed... FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU.... ck I'm dead." to "Steady now... watch the VVI... gently reduce the airspeed... FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU.... ck I'm good!" I often find myself gently bobbing around in ground effect after the FFFFFUUUU... part :) Don't know if it's realistic, but a lot more pleasant to fly than it used to be.
  8. No, the circuit breakers seem to be closed by default. I just mapped the wrong function
  9. I hope multiplayer is included. Team deathmatch, anyone?
  10. Are you flipping the switch by the mouse, or using a mapped key/button? I mapped the 'CB Anti-Collision Light' (or something like that) onto my MFD and was wondering why it didn't work, even though I could flip the switch with the mouse and the light would start blinking. An old keymap chart says the light switch itself should be RShift + L. The circuit breakers are not included in these maps, but I'm sure they're there in the latest version.
  11. The Su-25T is included for free with DCS: World. Edit: got sniped by PureEvil... nice shot :-)
  12. This! However, I'd have to fly without sound for most of the time :music_whistling:
  13. Mine had a dead L/G Warn Silence button. Didn't notice it for a while flying only the hog - I never bothered to silence that few seconds of beeping - but after I started needing the button for other profiles I took apart the throttle, figured out how to dismantle the button and resoldered the thin wires. Everything has been working well ever since. IMHO, the mini joystick on the throttle doesn't feel quite as good as the rest of the hardware.
  14. DCS Mig-21BIS would be sooo cool... Merry Christmas, everyone!
  15. At the moment I'm using a 9V battery and a 78L05, but if I can just find a MAX631 I'll build a small boost supply for Blade mSR batteries. One should be good for 4-5 hours, and I've got plenty...
  16. She's supposed to be tail heavy if there's (a lot of) fuel in the fuselage tank, see the Flight Manual page 107. I don't think I've ever tried it myself, though. RC planes are... umm... interesting to fly if the CG is way off... a nose heavy plane flies badly, a tail heavy plane flies only once :)
  17. You can also download the modules in advance and install after buying the codes.
  18. I would change the motherboard as well, but otherwise the setup looks very reasonable. I have no experience on older NVidia cards, would the 460 be a bottleneck?
  19. Try this: fly the Shark on the river, as low as possible, towards the Inguri Dam from the upstream side, slow down, and push the collective down and cyclic full forward on the edge. Whoa! Disabling the pitch channel on the autopilot might make it even better. Haven't tried with the Huey yet, should be just as good. Hmm... I'll bring the PC to work for some minor upgrades tomorrow. Have to try this using a projector. And probably a bucket :D
  20. A and C. I was all over the place on the second challenge... need to loosen the return springs of my pedals a bit, or remove them altogether. That's very good practice, thank you!
  21. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why military aircraft are so expensive. Gorgeous!
  22. All options are explained in the GUI manual(s): http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/documentation/dcs-a-10c_warthog_gui_manual_en/ There's another one for the Black Shark, but the controls section looked exactly the same to me.
  23. BitTorrent is a file transfer/sharing protocol. You download a .torrent file and open it in a client program, such as http://www.bittorrent.com/downloads This Linux box seems to use a client called Transmission. There are a lot of them, really. When you open the .torrent file, the client connects to several peers simultaneously and downloads the actual content in pieces. At the same time, the content you have already downloaded is shared to others. Please note, that some operators and/or employers may limit Torrent traffic, as it's also commonly used to download and share pirated content. But it may well be the most effective way to distribute stuff, since there is no central server that would instantly overload when a new version of DCS/Module/anything is released. When enough people are seeding/sharing the content it's also very fast, and unlike browser downloads, a download manager is more or less built in. If your Internet connection breaks, the client will just happily resume from where it left, keeping the pieces you've already got and getting the rest from the peers. If you have upstream bandwidth to spare, just leave the client open, and you'll be helping others to get the file(s) quicker. You can also limit the upload/download bandwidth directly from the client in most cases, if you feel that the traffic slows your connection down too much. Quite a few home routers can nowadays use BitTorrent to download and share stuff using a USB drive; also, it's a common feature of NAS boxes.
  24. Also, +1 for the Saitek pedals. Haven't had any issues with them. The pedals included with the Logitech G940 HOTAS are decent, if used with e.g. Leo Bodnar's USB interface; the built-in circuit has some hysteresis in it, causing them not to center properly and a constant need to trim the rudder.
  25. Thanks, it's a lot better now!
