personally i think, the labels make the camping and so called cat and mouse game above Novo situation only worse. i know everybody has problems spotting contacts within reasonable distances in dcs, and thats why they are enabled on the server...yet i think they completely destroy the possibilty of boom n zoom or general surprise attacks. and this is worse for the P-51s than it is for 190s and 109s. for example, rear-visibilty in 109 is by far the worst now of all three fighters. so having a handy black label visible right through your metal seat is pretty convinient....you break away. without the label you would be probably dead. in P-51 and 190 rear visiblity is really good, and you have a overall better chance to spot a bandit on your six. boom n zoom in 109 is pretty much impossible with or without labels, as due to the stick forces you can hardly adjust your aim, and a p51 can easily evade if its aware of the incoming 109. heck, its hard enough in the 109 to hit a P-51 who is not aware of you, if you are going 500kph or more. :). in the P-51 though, boom n zoom works great. still very manouverable at high speeds. and without labels, its really hard to spot a P-51 behind above or below you when you are in a 109. so without labels i think P-51s would have better chances. also, the camping "Luftwaffe" would have a harder time to spot and keep tally on low P-51s taking off from Novo. P-51s would have a better chance to take off, and sneak away, gaining some altitude to come back with an energy advantage... so, all in all, although generally spotting is harder for everyone without labels, i think it would greatly add to gameplay on this server. instead of using labels, we maybe should make people aware of certain settings which help spotting in dcs.... and there are definitely 2 settings, which have a huge impact on spotting ability in dcs... MSAA and Anistropic Filtering. MSAA and Anistropic Filtering both on 16x and you are a blind mole. reducing them further and further will increase visiblity, with best visiblity when you have both turned off. of course, the game doesnt look as nice anymore. with both turned off completely it looks really bad in fact, but spotting is way better.personally i now have both settings set to 2x, and dont use labels since the last week. of course, this should only be a temporary solution, and the real solution is when DCS improves spotting, so that people can run the game on max settings and still see contacts at realistic distances.

eekz, the current situation is not your fault i know that. hopefully the spitfire, and higher boost for p51 will solve the "issue" in future. that in real life, pilots wouldnt camp over enemy airfields is true. at least the pilots who survived the war. however, unfortunately we tend to be "forced" to fly towards Novo on your server, as that is the only point where we find P-51s. not only once, we were flying over the map, waiting over the targets, and watching P-51s stay above their airfield, until we ran out of fuel. so we started to fly towards Novo, as in the end, your server is also made to have dogfights. at least, thats why i am flying the warbirds in dcs. i started to not care whether i get shot down by flak, as i am mainly looking to practice my skill against oponents. but it sure gets boring after a while, when you are constantly get shot to pieces by the flak, on the only place where dogfights happen. the small server we are running is only a practice server. a pure dogfight server. its no competition to your server, as its focusing on something entirely different.

^^that is the limitation of the labels which the server is using. you will see the labels through your cockpit. thats why im not even using them and try to cope with the default visibilty, as i just hate to spot for example a bandit through my instrument panel, a contact, i would have never seen otherwise without the labels....

Fighting Legends is back. for now in a smaller format, and different style. the server is aimed for people who actually like to practice their dogfight skills, and not to wait for invincible flak to show its magic skills over their airfield. we enabled all current 3 prop birds on either side, and of course the spit will be included on day one as well. we enabled ground as well as air starts, and also have duel slots to spawn in. PURE DOGFIGHT

^^nothing changed with today's patch. i dont know, but i really disliked the imposters of earlier patches. these sprites were not an addition to the 3d model, but they simply exchanged the 3d model with the sprite. and not even in sync. so it was common that at a certain distance, nothing at all was rendered. which was horrible. furthermore, the imposters looked rather bad imho. setting them to large gave ridiculous results at far distances, where in fact i thought contacts where clouds :) . so personally im really against the imposter system, at least as we saw it implemented..not comparing sims is really hard, as others actually manage to give reasonable and convincing results. still i will try not to do it, and just state, that sharpness and contrast should, in my view, be increased as contacts get closer. and a subtle not overdone smart scaling is a perfect working solution in flight sims, proven over many years.

a serious problem with current clouds is, that you can see contacts through them, and more importantly, they are not in sync online. we tested this on various servers, and clouds appear in different locations for different persons. or sometimes people dont see any clouds while others can...these two bugs have unfortunately heavy inpact on gameplay, and i think this must be fixed in future... additionally what i would like to see in future, would be real CB clouds, or even towering cumulus. clouds that look dangerous. i cant help, but the new wip clouds which are deactivated for now, dont look convincing, without any contours. its a visual thing, and therefore not gamebraking or anything, but still i would love to have more convincing ones in future.

i`m used to make crosswind landings in real life...maybe i didnt express myself well enough, but also in real life, you naturally keep the ailerons into the wind even after touch down...thats what i meant with dont let them go. i didnt mean to touch down in a crab attitude, although there's nothing wrong with that either as long as its not too pronounced.

yeah, this option doesnt solve the issue. also, the soundradar in my view, shouldnt be optional, or possible to achieve with certain audio slider settings. it must be uniform for all clients/players, at least online.

+1 looking at how its implemented in dcs, i can understand why real life pilots considered the 190 the better aircraft. and i can also see how 190 pilots outturned 109 pilots...unlike in simulations, real pilots tend to have the desire to stay alive.

would love to disable them as well...i got tons of tracks, and not a single one is actually usable, as it never displays what really happened.

sorry, only just read your question..of course, here you go: i run 1080p as well, i7-4790k@4,5ghz, 32gb ram, but only 16gb in use as i have windows7 home:doh:, asrock z97 extreme motherboard. for 1080p, which i intend to keep using until oculus 2 or 3 is available, i feel a 1060 is more than enough and everything else would be a waste of money i guess. at least for current dcs with that resolution it is. -

a couple of parking slots dont exactly force you to use them though if you insist on realism...i agree with the op...they developed the airfield and invested many hours doing so. so why not make a few parking slots there for players who would like to take off from there? btw, if dcs itself insisted on realism only, we wouldnt have a single warbird yet, as there is no theater for it. likewise, the a-10c shouldnt be operating on the caucasus map either. and dcs itself defines itself as a sandbox simulation. so i dont see anything wrong with a few parking slots on an airfield really. just my opinion. -

im sad you suffer from the same issue, but im glad at the same time that im not the only one :) -
if you look into: E:\DCS World\CoreMods\WWII Units\Bf-109K-4 and open the Bf-109K-4.lua, you see that both the cannon and the machine guns are pointing downwards from the beginning: for the machineguns: elevation_initial = -0.298, and for the cannon: elevation_initial = -0.069, for the machine guns i guess it makes sense to meet the cannon rounds at convergence distance...but why the cannon is pointing downwards seems odd for me.

hey guys. i know its been brought up quite a few times already, but never with an official statement on the matter. i know from real life flying, that i cant hear another airplane taking off right next to me, when my engine is pretty much at idle.at least i cant remember that i've ever heard another aircraft as soon as my engine is running. yet in dcs i can hear other aircraft often a couple of hundreds meters behind me, while i have the engine running at full revolutions. i dont want to stir anything up here, but i would love to hear the opinion on that matter from some ED official, whether they think everything is ok as it currently is, or whether there will be some tuning in future. thx in advance!:thumbup:

^^+1 P-51 has many advantages over the 109. you described it bang on.
