I was glad to see this as well. All it needs is a screeching model sitting on the wings to stomp on my missiles before launch. Would be nice to see a weathered version as well.

The devs have sometimes made vibrations and other things on the sims much more pronounced in visual movement than they are in real life to give a simmer feedback on what the aircraft is doing, since we can't feel vibration through a sim. This may be one of those instances where the developer exaggerated the movements of the chopper to give that engine startup feedback while someone is staring at the instruments. Just a guess on my part but I'm betting this is why they did that.

I only got to squeeze in a very brief look over of the Dora yesterday. I didn't think to take screenshots or video of the only two takeoffs I attempted, so this gif will have to suffice to show the abject failure that was both of my takeoff attempts: Family showing up is going to limit my time with the Dora for now, but I'm hoping I can squeeze in on the DoW server Sunday while they are doing non-combat so I can practice online, depends on how early everyone leaves my place on Sunday.

Strengths and weaknesses Dora/Mustang
Grim_Smiles replied to Vlerkies's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Hey Merlin, do you guys have missions setup with 190 slots on the DoW server in advance of the Dora release? Or will it take time to change things to make those playable slots? -
I only tried one fight with the MiG-15 and it resulted in the MiG crashing. I had figured it was a fluke but obviously I was wrong about that. My fight ended up low over the water and during a turn I got overzealous and spun out - couldn't recover in time so I plowed into the water. After impact I hit F2 to see what the MiG was doing and he dove into the drink after me, so we both died. I'm going to just call that fight a draw.

Definitely looks like the ones that drop butterfly bombs:

Can't wait to try this in game
Grim_Smiles replied to ubiquitousuk's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Definitely. I also "love" the reporter's description of events, like how he "managed to pull out". I'm willing to bet there was never a point where the Captain needed to "manage" to do anything. -
*Edit: I wasn't faster on the keyboard lol, thanks for the answer Friedrich* Didn't they have the option for cannon gondolas under the wings for bomber intercept? Granted that isn't explosive ordinance, but just wondering if that was possible to arm on the K4?

Indeed, nowadays this happens: -
LN isn't getting any money from the MiG until it gets released - meaning that right now these guys are waiting around to be paid. Do you think ED would have asked LN to wait several months or even into next year until they can get an income?

F-86F Pre-Purchase w/ Open Beta Access - July 26th, 2014
Grim_Smiles replied to SkateZilla's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
Manly tears of joy being shed Wags, never been so happy to be wrong. Pretty sure it means we will be flying Saturday, I *think* the Huey and Mi-8 were available on the day of pre-purchase with open beta for both of those, if my memory isn't crap then should be same with Sabre since it is from the same company. -
I wouldn't get your hopes up for the 25th at this point. I really hope I'm wrong, but I don't think we're seeing a July release on the Sabre. We're so close to the August 5th planned release date for the Dora that I can't see them not including both for a 1.2.9 release, though I'm sure I'll get slapped like Joffrey for saying this. Human ingenuity summed up in a single image: "Cure cancer? Ppppfffttt, I want to be able to dance without spilling my beer."

Walken would know how space aliens roll since he's one himself. It would be fun to do an "Independence Day" movie fight, though the only way the human side could possibly win is if it was post shields taken down and the alien ships are smaller in number. Or like Skate mentioned with a Stargate style invasion, bring on the Goa'uld!

Best Looking Plane: Piston Fighters of DCS WW2
Grim_Smiles replied to USARStarkey's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
For me personally it's a tie between the 109 and Spitfire, for different reasons each. The 109 has that angular mean look to her and the Spit has the graceful lines. -
We could be flying the F-86F by tomorrow. Do you think we will be?
Grim_Smiles replied to Teeter's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
Think they gave a date range, 15-25? If so I highly doubt they'd make the upper part. In fact I agree with Yo-Yo, I think all the upcoming modules will be released together in a bundle, at least Dora and F-86, in August. -
I think there won't be that much difference in interest even with these other aircraft thrown in. Those who were interested in the MiG-21 are going to buy her regardless, those who pass her up initially may buy her down the road after buying one of the others. The Hawk and 101 are trainers and not everyone is going to be into those. The 190 is a WWII prop plane (again not everyone's cup of tea) and the Sabre is a Korean War era gun fighter - which if it doesn't have the MiG-15 AI opponent available on release there won't be any AI of similar ability to shoot at in game, while the MiG-21 does have some AI opponents already in DCS that could be a good match. Out of the entire group the MiG-21 is the only dedicated fighter jet that is still in use, has on-board radar and armed with more modern missiles (at least in comparison to the AIM-9B the Sabre may come with). Only way I can really see the MiG-21 having low sales is if the F-18C popped in and that isn't happening for some time.

Update to Dora Pre-Purchase Annoucement
Grim_Smiles replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Ah crap, you just un-brainfart me Sith. I was sitting here happy thinking I could select the Me-262 instead of the Mustang because I had completely forgotten about getting the P-51 key already, LOL. Ah well, Me-262 was low on my priority list anyway, I don't have an issue with buying it whenever my ADD hits me while flying the other WWII planes. -
Nice post Outlaw. I'd also like to add that these people constantly bringing up lawsuits and ED's liability needs to stop. Unless someone commenting has been to law school and is a licensed attorney, they do not know what the hell they are talking about. They can think they know law all they want, but the reality is they are discussing an issue they have no knowledge or training in. They keep bringing up that one case when a state AG is taking a KS company to court, but that is an entirely different situation. Based on the information available it appears that company never had the intention of ever providing a product to those backers, which is why they have a fraud case against them. RRG appears to have had every intention of providing a product but they bit off more than could chew and went under, and ED picked it up and is trying to do what they can to the best of their ability. The two cases aren't remotely the same. So if someone is that bent out of shape over what is going on that they would actually pay lawyer fees (in the thousands) over $40 KS backing, then I suggest you go speak to a lawyer. If you aren't a lawyer, don't bother trying to regal us with knowledge you don't have on a subject you have no training in (and on the small chance that someone is actually a lawyer, why the hell are you bothering to go over this on an internet forum, who are you trying to impress?).

I'd like to add: 5. Before discussing a potential for litigation and the merits of your case on an internet forum - have you ever received your Juris Doctor, passed the Bar Exam and become a licensed attorney? [ ] No, but I've seen "A Few Good Men" a couple times and you can't handle the truth! [ ] WTF is "Juris Doctor", is that like "Doctor Who"? [X] I went to a bar on Friday night, does that count?

All in good fun, we don't have much else to do at the moment:D
-
Ah okay, misunderstanding then. Thanks for clearing that up, I'll go back and edit my post.
-
Edit: Sithspawn pointed out I was incorrect in my understanding, disregard.

Well I lost the Me-262, but I can live with buying her at a later date. Worst news for me would have been to hear that the project wouldn't happen at all. As for the compromise, I can understand ED's position and I can also understand people getting upset. Bad situation all around:(. I really wish the KS rewards had been better thought out originally when this started, would have avoided all this, but nothing to be done about it now.
