Correction. It's Rowmark not Lexmark.
-
Lexmark makes plastic sheet with a black top layer specifically for laser engraving. The results are great. It is best to paint it with a matte top coat after engraving to keep it from scratching. Here's an example. This one is black on translucent white. They also make black on solid white if you don't plan on backlighting.

Does anyone have a DXF files of the A-10 knobs? I thought I had them but I can't find them. There is a company that wants to demo their machine at my school and will print me out my knobs in PVC as the demonstration for free. I explained that there was a lot of them but he said he would do it. He must really want to sell us 6 printers... Thanks. John

You could unscrew the stick from the base and screw it strait on the seat. EDIT: Very nice job. Excellent craftsmanship.

You'll be fine with the 40mm. Use screws at the joints instead of glue so you can change it or update it at a later date. Here's my first PVC simulator from 2012

Where can I find a curved warthog extension?
Thick8 replied to Kornskydiver's topic in Home Cockpits
I made mine from some PVC, a 12" PS2 cord, and a European hose fitting. cost about $15 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=131364 -
Have a new 4790. Is it worth the trouble?
Thick8 replied to Thick8's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
No, it's not a K. I checked out some videos of a 4790@4Ghz vs. a FX-9590@4.7Ghz. The FPS swapped back and forth between them on different games but neither was more that a frame or two ahead of the other. I'm starting to think that the 4790 machine might make a good 24/7 server. I can get a 30/10 dedicated IP line for an extra $10 per month than I'm paying now. I could run DCS and Sniper Elite 3 on it and always have a slot guaranteed at the settings I like. -
I received a 4790 in exchange for some work I did. The machine was build for light business use and the only thing of any real value is the CPU. I'm currently running an FX-8350 @ 5Ghz with crossfired 290s. Trying to decide if I should go to the trouble of tearing down my water-cooling setup, and the expense of a new MB. Newegg has the Asus Z97-e/3.1 on sale for $95. Thoughts?

To hook up multiple LEDs, the easiest thing to use is the LED strips from Amazon. They already have resistors built in, can be cut into groups of three, and come in various colors. If you want to connect single LEDs then use this calculator http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz to determine the resistors you need. Hope this helps. John

That company has been around for years. I used one of their boards about 10 years ago for a MSFS cockpit build. Good quality equipment.

TM Warthog Throttle "invalid device descriptor"
Thick8 replied to IASGATG's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Try starting your machine with the throttle disconnected. After the machine is running for a minute or so plug in the throttle. If it works then the issue is with a Windows update. I'm researching this same issue with my mouse. If I find the answer I will post back. -
Display sizes for Simming in General
Thick8 replied to Headwarp's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I use 3 40" 1080p TV's at 60Hz. Great for DCS, Skyrim, Sniper Elite 3, and all my other games as well. -
Thinking of using support channel - anyone else used it?
Thick8 replied to Flamin_Squirrel's topic in Home Cockpits
Do a search for extruded aluminum frame. You will find square channeled tubing that you can put together like an erector set. http://www.zoro.com/faztek-t-slotted-aluminum-structural-frame-extrusions/g/00061963/ -
I drew up just the base front panel some time ago but haven't yet cut it out. I may just buy yours as it is complete with all the layers. I'm using Reactor1's switch panels. Do you know if they will they fit your front panel?

This guy has been building platforms for a while. His latest is very cool. http://www.simprojects.nl/index.htm

That's really nice job. I was thinking of using low powered Fresnel lenses for the more deeply recessed panel elements.

3D does make a big difference. I used to do Falcon and FSX in 3D. Everything was easier. Oh yea, after 60 or 70 times it gets much easier. Don't watch the boom. look into the distance. If you focus on the boom you're going to start chasing it and you will fail.

:music_whistling: That was it. Thanks.

I had all of the files (I thought) but it would seem that I'm missing the Center Floor cut layout v2 4x8.dxf, Front Extension cut layout 4x8.dxf, and the rails.dxf We got our 4x8 CNC cutter up and running and I'd like to give the students something to build. Thanks. John

I guess I was not very clear. I bought it... Blasting through Vegas is pretty darn cool. Helios works without a hitch. I will now probably download 1.5 as an update to 1.2 and work out the kinks in it. At least I will have 1 fully working version of DCS at all times while the update processes continues.
-
I downloaded 2.0 and it said i didn't have any terrain loaded and I had to buy it for $50. I just read that it is supposed to be a free update. did i miss something?

Very nice. I'm going to lase a couple of these out to compare to what I'm currently using. I'll post some pics of the results.

Load everything on the new SSD. Once everything is on it. Ghost it over to the HDD to keep as a backup. Sell the old SSD to recoup some of the cost of the new one.

TurboCAD has gotten much better. I've been using it since version 5.0. I'm currently using version 15. I picked it up for $25 or so. The laser cutter at my school uses CorelDraw so I just save the TurboCAD file as a DXF, open it with Corel, and "print" it out on the laser. Have you downloaded Reactor1's panels? They can be easily modified to the correct size and hole placement. I started doing this but decided just to use his as they were and adjusting the rail width. John
