Your current configuration will be OK for VR in lower details but don't rush with the upgrade. First of all your CPU have possible bottleneck for 2080Ti so this upgrade is questionable. Check it first before upgrade to 2080Ti. Second new AMD RX 5700XT lower the price of 2080Ti already for 200$ so now you can get it for 1000$ but... AMD will release the 5800 and 5900 series in Q4. This will definitely bring some competition for 2080Ti. At least will force Nvidia to react by lowering prices or releasing something even better in prices and performances. The minimum in way of 2080Ti Super. I know they say no 2080Ti Super but I believe this will be the first answer to 5900XT which should be with higher performances than 2080Ti, finally after 5 years some high-end competition to Nvidia in benefit to us consumers. About VR HMD for DCS you got two choices. 600$ HP Reverb or 400$ Rift-S any other HMD is OK but not worth higher price compared what they offer for this money. HP Reverb offers superior clarity with native 2160x2160 resolution. Best is how this resolution gives you best picture without the need for SS/PD what any other HMD need. Reverb is only HMD who is compared with 1080p 27" monitor experiences in picture clarity. I think this saying all about it. Rift S has a lower native resolution but it is so balanced and good final experience so can match with much more expensive Vive PRO or Valve Index and all this for JUST 400$. With Rift-S you need SS/PD same as with any other HMD except Reverb so system requirements are simmilar. There is some lower audio solution quality issue but it is easily fixed with 60$ third part earphones for Sony PSVR. So audio is not a problem at all but needs this additional 60$ investmant. Just take this into consideration. Your configuration is little above minimum requirements, so you are good to go for HP Reverb or Rift-S now. Wait one more month for Reverb second model with fixed some issues with cables. Right now there are some problems with it but HP is fixing it and they announced a fixed model sometime in the second half of August. Rift-S I think fixed all problems appear on initial release what is normal with new products so don't be discourage buy some reports. About Rig, wait a little bit more new better options are around the corner.

HP was having similar problems with gen1 HP WMR. Obviously, they try to do the same with this practical but technically not necessary additional connectors for cables. Now with more bandwidth needs cables even create more problems but the source is the same. Problem practically come out after longer sessions and I don't know did anyone try it with a laptop on the back and short cable. Obviously, they were not aware of these problems because of the short testing session. One guy on his review was not aware of these problems because he never flights longer sessions. After he read about it he tries to repeat this bugs and he experiences it but after he hears about it on forum discusion. This thing happened, especially with new products. HP working on a fix and that is most important because for me right now Reverb is the only solution for VR. Maybe Acer in the future depends on the price. I'm not planning to pay more than 100$ just for manual IPD.

Yes, Gman says that good but wait a little bit more. HP is fixing cable problems with Reverb and that one is the one to rule them all. Even it is 600$ but the picture is so clear so it is worth it any cent.

Did maybe anyone own VR and RX 5700XT? I'm asking because this card is is very interesting. It is just -2% average compared to new 2070S. with overclocking it is better than OC 2070S and in pair to 1080Ti performances. But my major point of interest is new RDNA features RIS (Radeon Image Sharpening) and Scaling. This technology allows you 4K quality on 1440p rendering performance. It is sort of SS but made on GPU without a major hit of performances. So, in theory, should work better than software PD like it is now. I see positive reactions on that but no single one is it working with VR at all.

Read carefully what I'm saying. That is exactly my point. 2080Ti with i9 9900K 5GHz OC have just few FPS more than 2080Ti with Ryzen 5 3600. Focus on 4K benchmarks because those benchmarks are closest to compare with VR performances. Ryzen 5 with 2080Ti is 500 to 600$ cheaper than i9 9900K with expensive AIO for OC. When I'm talking about a few FPS I mean literally few. It is a matter in VR 2 to 3 FPS max.
-
Sorry but pay 500 to 600$ more for just few FPS?! It is more than 100$ per frame in this difference and it is questionable because Drivers and Bios optimization still didn't happen. It is just released and it's already looking good. Intel right now is giving you a minimal advantage for the maximum price difference and only if you are just gaming and do nothing else and in any other task, AMD is clear winner price or performance. BTW I'm Intel user but I'm not a slave of branding. For my hard earned money, I will buy the best buy option for my needs. If you already own some i5 9600K or better CPU it is pointless to think about upgrade because benefits are minor. With such CPU you will gain more benefits with better SSD, more memory or better GPU and will be good for next 3 years minimum and then will be 10nm Intell and Zen 4 on the market and then will be the right time to upgrade such CPU.

Yes, first benchmarks look promising. It is already average just 2% behind the 2070S and all this just because of using two titles in favor of Nvidia. Have in mind this is just first drivers in few months could mature and give even more performances so this is definitely 2070S performances pair si 1080ti as well. Also, this new features with better sharpening pictures and clarity work by default in any titles and VR could have benefited from it. This will be interesting to test especially in VR. But in your place, I will wait a little bit longer, somewhere in September is announced the release of 5800XT and 5900XT so imagine to get 2080S performances like card for 550 to 600$?

8700K 5GHz is beaten by 199$ R5 3600 on dissent B450 MB. Also, have in mind how R5 3600 + MSI B450 Tomahawk is the equal price as i5 9600K alone. Also, ad on this how you need 150$ AIO cooler and 9900K OC to 5GHZ is just 10% better than stocked 330$ R7 3700 with Box cooler. Even R5 3600 is here near in just maybe max 12%. All this difference in price is better to invest in RTX 2080ti. For the same price, you can get i9 9900K with 2060 or R7 3700X with 2080ti what is always a better choice with after all much better performances. With AMD vs Intel with similar performances, you got Rift S for free.

Which VR Headset Did You Own Or Are You Buying This Year?
wormeaten replied to Secoda's topic in Virtual Reality
This Poll results showing exactly what I'm thinking about and expecting from VR headset to be for DCS. Personally, I want Reverb as number one but my second choice will be Rift S. All others on the list are not competitive at all no matter is it old/bad performance or unrealistically high price and not offering much better for that money at all. Maybe just SO+ for 300$ as a third reserve option. I think this two will be leaders in DCS VR community of course if someone else didn't show up like for example ACER with announced Ojo Concept D. -
Secoda, did you try to secure the cable in a similar way as I suggested earlier. I believe add one more secure point on the PC case just after USB and DP connection to your PC will help in some way, especially with a stiffer cable like it is on HP. I don't own Reverb yet but I already decided to get one soon as will be available in Croatia. Even after all this problem, I didn't change my mind about how Reverb is not just the best buy option but it is the best option for what I want from VR. That is why I'm fully involved in this discussion just trying to be useful and constructive.

It is announced how 2080ti will be 999$. It is sort of lowering prices as well. I will be satisfied with it as well. This is 200$ just to cover the difference from Rift S to Reverb. So now you can get Rift S and 2080ti and in a month you will get Reverb and 2080ti for the same amount.

Doesn't matter what FOV is 130, 150 or even 250 point is Index have lower Stereo Overlapping and that is proven and it is clear why. Everything else is speculations.
-
Sorry m8. I and hundreds of others are wrong you are right it is 150° as you say. Who the hell we are to confront your ultimate knowledge. Index is the best and the cheapest and everything else is the garbage. Sorry one more time.
-
Index 130° FOV is the official specification and I don't know where you dig this 150°. I'm talking about official specification so it is not me, it is Valve and every review published. HP didn't do exactly the same. HP is maximizing utilization of display what gain that additional 4°. This also maximizes PPD but create a problem with some users can see the edge of the display. Index do two things to increase FOV. Increase distance between displays add more angle too, similar like Pimax All this affecting to reduced Stereo Overlap. This table gives me all the answers I need and thanks for it. There is one more thing this table is to prove some of my concerns about Pimax utilization of display and give me answer why clarity is not much better even displays specification say it should be. Problem is with Pimax lot of displays is not used so actual PPD is significantly lower and more close to Vive PRO or Index which is have better clarity than 5K+ when you compare through lens shots.
-
to reduced 3D This table you are sending to me is actually answer it completely and prove it. Index - Total HFoV 114° - Stereo Overlap 93° Vive PRO - Total HFoV 107° - Stereo Overlap 100° Lenovo WMR - Total HFoV 102° - Stereo Overlap 102° This just proves my concern was right. Wider FOV on Index is a trade off in price paid by reduced Stereo Overlap (3D picture). In this case, Reverb is a clear winner to me with better clarity, less SDE, less glaring and 400$ more in my pocket better to invest in GPU for better performance in general. Now waiting only for ACER Ojo and possible manual IPD of course it will be competitive with price.
-
This exactly proves what I was saying. Index dose has 130° FOV diagonally officially same as 114° Reverbs diagonally or 110° diagonally with Rift S. If you read carefully what I'm saying and think about it is the exact same thing you are correcting me and sending me some links to prove me wrong where this is actually just confirming what I'm saying. Only nobody answering how this is reflecting on 3D sweet spot? What I'm asking is the logical and required proper answer. Everything is pointing on that possible problem, official specs, and reviewers issues reports. Next time think about it twice before you start correcting someone what he actually talking about. No hard feelings.

There is one other interesting happening right now. WMR! it is possible how HP Reverb is actually one of the first WMR 2 HMD. ACER announced Ojo as well with 2160x2160 displays. WMR first introduced 1440x1440 displays as WMR standard. So this 2160x2160 could be new WMR standard. More or less all WMR is sold out. Now we have just some SO+ and just a few other WMR. All rest are sold out. I doubt how Microsoft is abandoned VR especially when other VR imbracing WMR inside out tracking technology introduced by WMR. Actually, Rift S, Quest, HTC Cosmos, and Focus are advanced WMR in essence. Samsung is announcing new HMD as well so I believe this Reverb is actually the first WMR2.
-
There is one more possible problem with Index during index design and the way how they increasing FOV. This issue is noticed by MRTV in live stream when he reports some strange artifacts in the center of the screen. That is probably the effect of reduced 3D FOV. Added FOV is made by a larger spread of displays part of the picture which is overlapping and creates a real 3D effect. This overlapping part of the picture is reduced resulting with reduced FOV with real 3D and picture in the center goes in 2D. An index is using same size displays as SO+, Vive PRO or Quest. They have 110 FOV and Index 130. For this additional 20° general FOV is reduced 3D FOV. To better understand that just measure FOV per eye separately not all together.
