  1. My conclusion with Rift S is that full RGB LCD show more superior in general than OLED. More subpixels in 4:4:4 chroma is essential for clarity and text reading against 4:2:2 on OLED. The only benefit for OLED was color but Rift S shows how with good color calibration it is not much behind but clarity kick OLEDs ass even with lower res and PPD. How much I was disappointed with CV1, more with lunching price not much by performances, now RS positively surprise me. I don't know how much people remember some of my debate for CV1 when I was openly talking about such a solution with a single display that resolution. Now all these people who were talking how I don't know what I'm talking about will switch from CV1 to R-S which is exactly same specs as I was talking about 3 years ago CV1 should be. 90Hz is included in that debate too. This is my little personal satisfaction and victory for all that insults received for it. But forget about it, it is not worth mention it now when we finally got a great product with proper price-performance ratio. Rift S is now a great starting point for VR and will do a lot for popularization because providing dissent clarity great performances for a good price. 400$ is a good price for launching a new product but if you have time wait. In six months Rift S will be 300$ what is a realistic price for it but if you want it now 400$ is OK.
  2. For all of you who have doubts about controllers just check this video who will give you all the answers you need.
  3. Audio shouldn't be a big problem. As already multiple people mention it here there is alternative for audio and it comes from PSVR. Just to remind you.
  4. The Answer is actually Yes and No at the same time. With additional software like Alvr, you will be able to use Quest on your PC as well with the benefit of wireless connection. BUT!!! Don't take it for granted before you see how this will function in practice. Just take it all in consideration before decide Quest or S.
  5. Great! Thanks, man. Need two major points as an example: instruments readability and picture clarity true lens Enemy/target spotting in distance true lens I know it is impossible to put on video what is someones exact impressions in VR but such video gives you much more information than that just what it is capturing true gameplay by your computer. We need something like that to compare with similar videos of different HMD's to get a better preview of how good it is. Any quality will be good, even with your smartphone but if you got a proper camera with optical zoom will be appreciated. Focus on the sweet spot and zoom in with optical zoom to the level where on your camera displays showing neer to the what you see when you a using it. FOV here is irrelevant and that way probably a huge chunk of it will be out of the picture after zoom but we need just to get pictures of the clarity and readability. Sorry m8, maybe I'm demanding too much. Don't bother if you can't do it that way, this is just the best possible solution for those who can't separate video quality from what it is representing. Personally I will be happy even with simple smartphone capture but in that case, do not take any attention to complaints from some people who actually don't know what to look for in that video. Just warning you in advance based on my experience in the past. But such video will provide much more information than any other to dose who knows what to look for. Thanks again Cap'n Penguin.
  6. I could imagine how much you will "work" when Rift S is next to you teazing, "take me, take me". Work?! :pilotfly:
  7. Can someone do a true lens video with some instruments reading and some target spotting examples? Thanks.
  8. Imagine if Rift S with a minor increase of resolution and full RGB display binging that much clarity how much Reverb will bring it than with much more pixels. Rift S prove how software IPD is not that much of the problem or issue at all. Tracking in DCS should be the same, no much benefit from additional cameras in DCS usage. Reverb should have much better picture even under 1.0 PD so the effect on the hardware shouldn't be much higher. I'm expecting from Reverb to be the first HMD to run well on native resolution. Optics is the same but FOV will be noticeably higher on Reverb. Price is 200$ more but after all value per $ could go in favor of Reverb as well.
  9. How GPU developing progressing I doubt only 6080ti will be efficient for best today's VR. All this is not just VR or GPU issue it should be holly trinity. VR, GPU and Game Developers. My point is GPU already have some advantage features especially for use single GPU per eye. But that should be possible to use by VR HMD's and be implemented in software to use all benefits from such technology possibilities. In that case, two 1080 will be 30 to 40% better performance than single 2080Ti. Even two RX 580 will be significantly better than single 2080Ti for just 1/3 of the price. That means for the price of just single 2080Ti, if on all tri sides people do their best to implement this already existing technology, you can buy two RX 580 + HP Reverb + 200$ bonus for something else and have better performance than today with single 2080Ti.
  10. The index is using new Valve patented dual lenses which allegedly significantly increasing clarity and FOV. Similar to Star VR and XTAL who create special lenses for their product and are the essence for it what gives them an advantage. Pimax actually is a plagiarism of the, I think old Panasonic attempt for wide FOV VR and in essence is melting two standard lenses to reach that FOV, the reason for the high need to compensation for distortion.
  11. Star VR has a bunch of unnecessary technology built in for consumer version. So far they producing a prototype for IMAX theatres, and we know how this end. Now they turn to consumer version and there is a lot of space to make it more light and cheaper as the consumer version. Same as XTAL. They made some significant unique design what will give them a significant advantage to competitors who already have products for 1500$ (expected possible price for consumer version) on market like Pimax5K+ or Vive PRO who are already in that price range. So where is the problem? This year will be great for VR.
  12. Maybe but it is still better than Pimax you have to wait more than 4 months from first orders and pay for it in advance much before it is produced.
  13. Maybe will be possible in Vulcan not earlier.
  14. It is just pure marketing issue. There is a lot of interest in it and to be honest just month ago no one knows is existing at all and now everybody talking about. It is obvious product exist and it was already sent to reviewers to do reviews. After that will be released on the market. HP announced will be available worldwide and as usual first will be released on the US and shortly after that to the rest of the world. Fact hot it is silent right now could be just the opposite. A product could be extra good so they want to achieve maximum benefit once when will be available to the public.
  15. HP Reverb has a better lens and clarity what could cover software IPD adjustment between 55-71. So you got approval.
  16. Just in time when first proper reviews appear on the other side of the pond. :pilotfly:
  17. My GearVR with LG G5 works OK with 2.4 Ghz WiFi router. Today we have even 5Ghz routers and from first reports working better than CV1 300$ external module for WiFi. D-Link AC1200 Wireless WiFi Router or better Tenda AC18 Wireless-AC1900 Dual Band Gigabit Router and more expensive D-Link EXO AC2600 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi Router
  18. First, read carefully than comment. Just that.
  19. To be honest I'm thinking about to use Quest instead of Rift S. My point is even it is standalone HMD will be possible to use it in the same way as google cardboard mobile phone based HMD with additional software like Riftcat or something else. Quest got two OLED displays same resolution as Vive PRO or O+ and the best thing will be a possibility to do it over WiFi. No wires with proper WiFi router on 5Gb/s. This WiFi solution will be cheaper than buying additional hardware for wireless VR. Just wait, I'm guaranteed some people working on it already and we will see first examples in less than a month on youtube.
  20. All these pictures are made under the same condition with the same camera so the difference is a representative realistic difference in display quality. About colors, yes your observation could be true but focus only on clarity. Here Reverb is best without doubts.
  21. Rift S is not a bad choice for starting in VR but it is not an upgrade to CV1. Pimax is too expensive especially for the quality it provides. Not recommending. In my opinion, you should wait for the first proper comparison between Reverb and Index. As you already own CV1 this will be good to wait even a year for a proper upgrade. Real upgrade in clarity will be only with Reverb, Index, and XTAL. About XTAL, they working on cheaper consumer version so will be affordable and in range of price as Pimax with better end results but we will know more about that only in Q4. So for wide FOV, you should wait. Only those 3 HMD are a real upgrade and if you are limited by budget than just go for Samsung O+ for 300$. This is a really noticeable upgrade for that money but nothing more.
  22. You should wait for the consumer version next year. Much cheaper. For that time buy O+ on sale for 300$ and sell it after XTAL release. You will always get 250$ minimum for used O+.
  23. Unfortunately, I never see proper feedback or review from any member on the DCS community. Most of the people who buy some of the HMD keep it for them self after they buy it. That is the only proper video with impression for some of this HMD from people in this community. Other games communities are more fruitful with such feedback.
  24. It is an already better option than Pimax5K+ which is almost just HMD same price as full packages Index. No way as I could buy Pimax5K+ now as I was always talking it is too expensive for what is given as low quality no name product. Previous Pimax reputation is bad and nothing changes much in better support except they rise the price to the sky and they are not flexible to adopt price to the market request. Pimax in the long term has no future.
