  1. It would be great to see the likes of the Ki-61, N1K and Ki-84 to mix things up a bit. Certainly the latter two were a match against a F6F and F4U. Having only one type which underperforms would be a nightmare, in a spit on the western front without a P-51 or a P-47 around to chase off the pesky Bf109K or distract them would be a nightmare. I think this factored into ED choosing to model the F6F-3. Question is, is there enough information out there to model them!
  2. Hopefully it will only be a matter of time.
  3. Not the kind of video you want, but a video neither the less…

    Bomb rack?

Thanks Rudel looks like you nailed it

    Bomb rack?

I was just shifting through some pictures of F4U and came across this F4U-1D (In the tri/four colour scheme no less) but what is on the right hand hard point? Is it a bomb rack extender or something else entirely?
  6. Okay admit it I can’t be the only one who is checking Rudels profile page daily on the off chance of a new picture?
  7. @-Rudel- What are the chances we will get this load out Apparently Charles Lindbergh flew the F4U with double the rated bomb capacity. I believe what the picture shows is two 1000lb bombs with a 1000lb on the centre rack. Apparently Charles had a 2000lb on the centre rack, which would make for an interesting take off…
  8. It’s great to see the Brewster bomb rack, I have wondering if we were going to get it. Now we just need a shot of a RNZAF with three fuels tanks…
  9. Given the recent video of the F-4 which showed them scrawling on the canopy this should definitely be doable!
  10. @-Rudel- Now that the glass armour plating has been installed will the reflector glass be removed? I was under the impression that only the F4U-1 used the reflector glass Then on the F4U-1A they went to the setup below? The image below shows a -1D without either the glass on the reflector or separate piece to reflect on, is this a specific -1D mod?
  11. It’s not the number it is the font, that wasn’t used by the navy as far as I am aware and completely different from any that M3 have shown previously. Edit: I don’t believe we have seen a 28 before either just 26 and 29.
  12. Good call, that is certainly not the usual font!
  13. I cannot wait to see this cockpit in VR, it will be amazing. keep up the good work chaps the model looks absolutely cracking!

    Corsair update

What were you promised exactly by M3? Absolutely nothing… Clearly those 50 years of business were not in a relatable or remotely close to programming/sim development

    Corsair update

    Staggering ignorance…
  16. Additional one, looks absolutely stunning!
  17. A Ki-84 would be fantastic to see, I wonder what ED have up there sleeves… they definitely have something brewing. I know the map would be far too large but a Solomon/New Guinea map would make me very happy. Begs the question where were the vast majority of the Ki-84 stationed… Japan/Okinawa or further afield?
  18. I have started on my next project in anticipation of Magnitude 3s next module the Corsair. After a bit of research and some lucky finds (Two NAF 1124-17 Throttle Handles) and finding that these throttles use a similar type of frame I decided rather than build a throttle from scratch I purchased a Cessna 310 Quadrant. Clearly this unit has quite a few more levers compared to the Corsair… the example below is actually from a F6F but they are virtually the same. Today I stripped down the Throttle to see what is required to convert it to resemble the F4U.

    -3 or -5?

I am well aware of this however frankly I am fed up of this excuse, at one point I was quite happy to accept it however now we have moved way beyond the KS (which I was a supporter of). This is a good thing. Anyway back on topic. I would rather have the F6F-3 as it was more than a match for the vast majority of IJN and IJA aircraft… the N1K and Ki-84 being the exception to the rule. In regards to the -5 additional ground pounding ability it seems that the Corsair was used to a greater extent in this role. of course the best we could hope for is that ED give us both the -3 and -5 making this discussion irrelevant.

    -3 or -5?

Hoping for a -3, it will show that have learnt from the mistakes of Normandy.

    The four hog

If we were discussing the 1/1A I would agree however on paper the 1D is competitive with the 109. Corsair were around the western front and took part Operation Tungsten against the Tirpitz, so it definitely could have come across the Fw190, a squadron of who was meant to be covering the Tirpitz.

    K-14 Gunsight

That is great thank you. interesting that the images from Magnitude 3 show a different setup, would love to hear from them.

    K-14 Gunsight

I have seen pictures of these gunsights on Corsairs, were any installed on the F4U-1D’s?
  24. Having recently looked into this myself I found that the clipped wings was only the start of the modifications required to produce a Corsair II/IV. Clipped Wing Modified Cockpit equipment (Radio, Pilot Harness… etc) Vents on the fuselage for carbon monoxide(?) removal as they were concerned that the exhaust pipe were too flush with the fuselage I would love to see additional types added at some point.
  25. Made a little bit of progress with the Power Quadrant. I temporarily hooked it up and the Lever Power OFF switches and Finger Lift switches are working as intended.
