  1. I kind of get what you are after, but also I kind of don't ... Yes, newbie-friendly missions that are simple and allow to focus on certain aspects of a certain module are probably a good idea. But to be worth anything, those would have to be somewhat rounded and fleshed out to some extend. Otherwise they are not worth the time it takes to up- and download them. I mean, that test mission setup I talked about can be done by everyone within 5 minutes - and has the benefit that it can be tweaked and tailored exactly to what you are looking for. There are literally thousands of different combinations of aircraft/weapon/target/environment possible and you can't make usable missions for each of them. But everyone can tweak their own little 5 minute mission to their liking. Instead of a download section for testing-stuff-missions, there should probably be a good(!) introduction tutorial to the mission editor (i.e. 5-10 screenshots would suffice?).

Just to try out a feature: mission editor, place a target, place aircraft, configure loadout. that's it, and not really worth sharing imo. fleshed out training missions and the like are much more elaborate than that, but also require quite a substancial amount of work to produce. they are simply a different use case.
  3. semi-OT question: how would a TCN fix work if the carrier tacan is used? I mean, the carrier tacan is moving together with the vessel and therefore not a "fix" point that the alignment process could use as a reference. Or am I missing something here?
  4. The updater downloads everything in form of separate files into a temporary directory ("_download" within the install directory). Once the downloading is complete, the files are then moved to their correct position within the installation directory. If the download stops for some reason, the next time the updater runs, it checks the already downloaded files and then continues where it was stopped before. So it _could_ be that a large(ish) file has to be re-downloaded again if it was incomplete, but that's it afaik. edit: the updater will not tell you that it is actually continuing a previously stopped download. But you will notice that the progress bar will be FAST (i.e. magnitude of several GB/s, depending on your hardware ofc) in the beginning as the updater just checks which files are already downloaded.

  6. According to documents, the Kiowa has or had some sort of HUD or collimated gun sight, called the Pilot Display Unit (PDU). Afaik the Polychop Kiowa does not have this device and I wonder why? Is it not in service (anymore) or what are the reasons? Does anyone know? Polychop?
  7. In theory it should be that easy. But afaik in this case it is different. In DCS flares and chaff are of the same size, so you can load for example 30 flares + 30 chaff OR 60 flares OR 60 chaff. But for the FA18 it is different, the space one chaff uses can hold 2 flares. So, as in the previous example, you could either load 60 flares + 30 chaff OR 120 flares OR 60 chaff. So there is some additional logic necessary, a simple 1 flare = 1 chaff does not suffice. That means at least the mission editor must be changed and probably the in-game reload-logic as well.
  8. still no luck. After showing briefly the two popups saying "Logging in ..." and "Getting authorizaton data" it keept saying Now, after a few more attempts, I managed to get DCS started. Went to the module manager to install the SC. During DCS restart, now I got the 502 error with a different text: "Failed to get authorization data. Error code is 502.   11. Iirc radar ranging was one of the radar modes that are planned to be implemented this or next year, according to Wags roadmap posting. That could explain if accuracy if off most prominently only over uneven ground - as the slant range is probably only calculated to sea level.
  12. I think, the updater checks at least the file sizes and replaces files where the size doesn't match with the original. I am not sure, if actually a checksum or something similar is calculated to find changed files - the repair mode of the updater seems to be a bit too fast to actually do that. So, it is possible that local modification go unnoticed by the repair run if the modification does not result in a different file size, yes.

Regarding the gun dispersion ... perhaps it is just my english skills, but what does "diminishes dispersion by approximately 1.5 times" or "a drop in dispersion values of approximately 1.5 times" exactly mean, mathematically speaking? "times" means to multiply something, but if I multiply x with 1.5, x only gets bigger. I would assume, that x divided by 1.5 is actually meant? So, a reduction to 2/3 of the original value? :helpsmilie:

  18. I sense a problem with the term "flight model" here... As flight model, we understand the simulation of the various parameters and forces that act on the specific air frame. It is not directly about how the aircraft interacts with the ground. That is, of course, also modelled and simulated, but is more or less considered as a given and probably simulated/calculated by the DCS base game simulation engine.
  19. Ok, I think, I got it know what you are trying to say .... hrm ... Your diagram with the triangles was probably putting me in a slightly wrong direction as it is too simplilfied. The bomb follows a parable, not a straight line with a certain slant angle. One factor that contributes to the parable is air resistance, i.e. the forward movement of the bomb is slowed down, while the forward movement of the aircraft remains steady. So, the distance the aircraft travels between point Aa and Ba is the same as between Ba and Ca. Also the impact points spacing between Ai and Bi is the same as for Bi and Ci. But the distance Aa - Ba is NOT the same as between Ai and Bi. The actual impact point spacing is shorter the higher the release altitude was! At the end of the parable, there bomb falls almost directly vertical as it has minimum forward speed. Depending on the starting speed and the altitude, this end phase of the parable is reached earlier or later, but makes the impact spacing always shorter than the release spacing. So, you were right, I suppose, and I admit, I have no clue how to calculate that. But as I said earlier, I, too, am happy to learn here! :-)
  20. The time of fall is the same for each release if your aircraft keeps the same altitude. The displacement of the aircraft between two releases is the same as the displacement of the impact points - as every other parameter is 100% identical.
  21. But all bombs fall the same way, with the same angle and all - as the release parameters are all the same for each release. The only difference is the point in space / position over ground of the release point. So that difference should be responsible for the difference of the impact points. To calculate the actual impact point is much more complex. If you want to know where your aim point is so you know where the bomb will hit the ground (i.e. slant angle), you have to calculate the bomb trajectory itself. The parable the bomb will follow is depending on height, speed and what it makes really difficult: drag / air resistance during it's fall. But if you only want to know when to release the 2nd bomb to impact the ground at a certain distance of the 1st bomb ... you just have to release it after your aircraft covered that distance.
  22. Look at your diagram: d1 = t1 Given the same height above target and a constant speed of the aircraft, the bomb trajectory looks identical (your blue triangles). The only difference is that they are shifted. If you release 2 bombs at the same time, they will impact at the same spot. But if you drop the 2nd bomb after your aircraft moved 100 ft further, the bomb will also impact 100 ft further. If you want to archieve a certain spacing, calculate how long your aircraft must move to cover that distance between two release points. How long the bomb(s) fall, what height they are released (given that the height is the same at least), etc are all interesting questions, but have no bearing on the given problem, imo.
  23. The trajectory of each released weapon looks the same (i.e. the shape of the ballistic curve) as all release parameters are the same. The only difference is the timing - and therefore the position of the releasing aircraft over ground. So, in theory the spacing should only be affected by the speed of the aircraft, right? I.e. the distance the aircraft travels in-between two bomb releases should be equal to the distance of the impact points. disclaimer: only trying to apply common sense and I am actually only guessing. If there is more to it, I am happy to learn with all of you! :-)
  24. Option SBYS und Option TAND steht für "Side by Side", bzw. "Tandem" ... afaik. Also dass 2 Waffen nebeneinander ("Breitseite"), bzw. hintereinander einschlagen sollen. (hab ich irgendwo aufgeschnappt, ka ob das bereits implementiert ist)
  25. I don't have the A8, but the BF-109 has the same gunsight that is also offset to the right. And for helping with aiming, there is an option at the Special Settings tab that allows you to either have your view centered at the cockpit or centered at the gunsight (or switching between the two automatically). Looks like your view is set to "centered at the gunsight".
