Also. The casual user should be aware of IPD measurements made at home. with a simple ruler my IPD measurement across 10 measurements averaged at 67 mm With a mitututovo Vernier calipers I measured an average of 64.7mm and with my last optician measurements gave a value of 64.4 mm. measuring with a ruler is for Sh!t!

I think there may be a problem with the right eye of the Reverb.... possibly. I have just had my eyes retested and I will wait until my new glasses arrive in 7 days before I talk about the reverb actual. The test was a revelation from my original eye test in 2015. If the new glasses work out fine I will order my VR opticians permanent mounts. I believe the right optiks unit may be secondary to the primary left when it comes to power distribution, it is possible that the USB power supply needs to come from a USB C (1.5 ampere) powered USB hub instead of the standard 3.0 USB gen 2 0.9 Ampere hub.. perhaps! Perhaps a powered hub may do the job. Perhaps this due to the dreaded left eye mirrored to monitor. My right eye has a tear of brighter light down the right eye piece, top to bottom, It intersects the central focal point perfectly. This could be a power issue or could just be a specific optikal or screen abnormality specific to my unit. The tear of lighter light is hardly noticeable in DCS combat and flight.... but it is there. I most notice it in the hunk of junk VR houses that come as standard with this virtual head piece..... Steam VR home home is pretty awesome mind! For the chopper pilot, there is no doubt that this head set is a valuable tool to the simulator...... I find it hard to describe exactly what makes its obvious attributes virtually impossible for me to go back to 2D monitors. I think the real world scale is probably it, The size of the world you look at and how that translates to your chopper seems to bring the virtual into the real with ease. I think in the 2D world, the movement just never made sense, real world joystick movement seems to be related to a tiny little chopper in a tiny little screen. In VR it is a big world chopper in a true world scale, the movement of the real world cyclic is perfectly in tune with the real scale world in which it sits. VR is a thing of beauty. Holding the gazelle on the edge of a building, opening the door and leaning out and looking down the edge of the building to the real world sized BTR sitting at the base of the building is just something special! My only conclusion so far is that VR is true!

A new tweak for Reverb to keep it smooth
Rogue Trooper replied to GunSlingerAUS's topic in Virtual Reality
The 60 Hz setting works superbly for me, liquid smooth. I originally set up my DCS graphics settings in 90 Hz mode so that I could tune the system performance to give me plenty of headroom above 60fps and then locked in the headset at 60Hz. Steam resolution is set at 100% which since yesterday gives me 22?? X 2160 rez (previously 24?? X 2160). DCS IPD set to 1. (0.9 if I want a bit more performance). Supersample filter is switched off (terrible blurry image with it on and exaggerates the centre focus). I had to give up Mirrors, cockpit shadows and 4XAA to guarantee the system stays above 60fps online. I will try the 90Hz setting again and limit it to 45Hz in the near future to try and get back the cockpit shadows as they look awesome in VR. -
Really. you think Quadg? You think the Huey and Mi8 have anything like the actual 7 degree mechanical tilt to starboard for the entire lift engines, main rotor shaft, hub and lift blades? Have you actually looked at a picture of the hind head on? I suggest you start searching for pictures mate because you will find its stance on the ground very wierd.... you will see no helicopter like it from the head on.... look hard lad! Practical physics may be something to shout and boast about, but the way they designed it at that time may offer a different solution to what you think you know... and they designed the MI-24 to kill. What you talk about is setting the cyclic for a hover or balancing the weight of the chopper. Balancing the chopper in forward flight, and more importantly compensating for the rolling momentum of the retreating blades in forward flight. What I talk about is minimising the rolling momentum into the cross section of the airframe during the high speed attack mode.... It is about reducing an induced rolling momentum into the unguided rockets. I think we are talking about different things. I am talking about the rolling rotation of the airframe during flight, finding a mechanical solution to perfecting unguided weapons delivery whilst pushing an aggressive weapon into the thick of the warzone. I am talking about the MI-24P, it is a violent aggressive THUG.... Russian style!.... It is ultra violent with no finesse what so ever! You are talking about the Huey and MI-8 transport helicopters. Of course, pitch and speed is another problem when it comes to rocket delivery.

She is also sleeker and faster than the MI-8 (world speed record holder at one time). The large weapon wings produce lift at speed and hence off load work from the engines. She is better armoured.... really well armoured! But she is old school, she will have difficulty holding a hover with her weight. Hot and high in Afghanistan, she will carry a shockingly bare minimum of weaponry into combat! In winter She will make them pay alright! I think, but do not know, if you drop her into the slightest hint of VRS then her sheer weight will have such momentum that you may find yourself on the elevator to hell.... going down!... get your side slip out of VRS sorted just in case, it requires much less inertial weight to pull the chopper sideways than bringing that heavy old nose down from the flare into forward flight!
-
Of course this means when entering the curve, there is a weakness between left or right turn. If this tiny detail is missed by ED then there will be F£%*ING HELL TO PAY! It is little stuff like this that is the very essence of the USSR design bureaus finding a simple solution to a complex problem.... with caveats.

I "think" the tilted rotor head is what maintains good rocket fire. If you look at photos of the hind from head on, the airframe tilts to starboard as if the starboard wheel is flat and the entire chopper tilts to its right by 7 odd degrees. But if you look even closer the starboard wheel is the same as the port wheel and the bubble canopies look perfectly perpendicular to the ground. After the pilots rear bubble canopy the upper airframe tilts to starboard including the engine intakes, rotor mast, hub and blades. It then straightens out again to ground perpendicular for the entire tail boom. I believe this canting of the lift system allows better level flight (roll) for unguided rocket release.... like the Kamov.

Only Miltech-5 will bring us the BO-105.... no one else! For me that is perfectly Klar!

Is the HP reverb the true start of virtual reality? Does the explosion start here? I still do not own the driver system for my HP Reverb, it is paid and I am waiting..... it is the curse of buying the built and tested system from Chillblast..... It is not their fault! It is demand from black Friday! I wait...... very very patiently! I research my future needs, I create short cuts and download software to an external drive!..... but I wait! Wherever I look, some of my reference flight sim guys on the interwebs, both civilian and military are becoming converts.... the resolution is all they needed! Does the explosion start here? Does HP know what is going on, are they ahead of the curve?

MFG Crosswind Damper Mod
Rogue Trooper replied to BaD CrC's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Is it too much hassle to ask for a parts list for this mod BAD CrC? Does the bracket around the damper come as standard or is it and additional unit? Any additional washers...... all the bits and bobs to see a fella through, from start to end. What is the switch to normal use time like? -
I am with polychops, I always had time for them and the fact that they are coming back at us with a treasured weapon platform speaks volumes to me. I will back these guys at my cost and hopefully as a result, your Gazelle will become as great as she deserves to be. +++++ 1,000,000 on the F-14 quality module, It just has to be the way for these boys to go, obliterate the past! Obliterate it completely! If they get this right, this bad boy will sell very well indeed!

Ka-50 Unguided Rockets Firing Possible Bug!
Rogue Trooper replied to Murey2's topic in Bugs and Problems
Did you try switching off the Pitch AP prior to release? I never tried this my self but I have released rockets with no APs on and this worked very well for me. Try disengaging the pitch AP in advance so you can hold your speed and pitch with the cyclic manually. Without doubt with AP on or off, I always race into the target in order to maintain high speed so that I can defensively manoeuvre if something dangerous appears when I least expect it. I always need to pitch up to attain the perfect target when it is time to release the unguided rockets..... and I always adjust when it is time to fire.... could this be something? IS there a lack of collective control when the time of release has suddenly come? -
Day one buy, looking forward to this module.

Cool... cut and pasted into word. So steamVR with openVR is the VR version of openGL software for standard graphics cards and standard monitors? Vulkan or Vulcan comes to mind for some reason.... something I read about recently... is this something to do with it or am I in the wrong ball park?
-
WMR is just a generic programme that will install when installing the HP reverb I guess.
-
Ok, good to know. I will start to look into the steam VR application and whether I can install it without steam.
-
If I fly without steam (DCS standalone)? do I need Steam VR? OK, waiting for someone to come into the conversation. Sorry if this has been asked over and over again guys.

Any progress on native support for Reverb?
Rogue Trooper replied to imacken's topic in Virtual Reality
+1 Me too now! Hey Harlikwin, what do you use your Track IR for now? It is still in your system line up. -
Really looking forward to this... I have been waiting for this for 2 years! I got the headset and am now just waiting for my VR driver system! Do I need steam VR to run it? Do I need steam to run steam VR? I use DCS standalone only.
-
looking forward to loading this carrier up with choppers!
-
yep, this is all you need in MI-8. The superbly designed automation is strong and reliable and requires no cheats like the wayward freedom of choice all over the place western helicopter designs. It is as simple as that!

Ka-50 Multiplayer Data Link Issue
Rogue Trooper replied to KappinHook's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Do you see your flights individual numbers on the Abris map? (re read the op yes you do) Have you set the data mode to 3, send and receive from other flight members? -
How is Head tracking, I do not mind if it is not perfect as I am used to track IR with its amplified real head to virtual head movement. Do any HP users fly the Kamov with its HMS targeting reticule? Is it easier with VR?
-
Sweet!
