Cheers Bearskin ! I'll try your suggestions and report back. Yes, I'm enjoying the Pico 4, it's a nice step up from the Quest 2, which is an awesome Headset anyway once you get it all tweaked

Just got the Pico 4 too. I have been using a Quest 2 for all of my PCVR games including DCS. I use Oculus Air Link exclusively. DCS looks very promising via virtual desktop, more testing to follow. However, for the life of me, I can't get AMS2 to run via virtual desktop. I can set up a race, but as soon as I click to go to the cockpit the game freezes. This was the same experience with the Quest via Virtual desktop which is why I used Air Link. How are you launching AMS2. Sorry to divert from DCS but you're the first person I have seen who has successfully launched AMS2 this way.

I think v43 is still PTC. Sensible thing to do is opt out of Beta test and read the forum reaction before opting in.

Have the Oculus Quest 2, but not that glad with the results :(
Lensman replied to Ross-impress's topic in Virtual Reality
I get around 4 hours from the Quest using the battery strap. I get good range from my TP-Link AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 router. It's in the same 1st floor room as my flight and racing rigs, but I can happily play Skyrim downstairs in the lounge or even in the garden after the sun sets -

I agree with Hoirtel's comments above. Oculus/Meta have worked some magic on the Airlink software over the past few months. I'm getting very smooth gameplay with the Oculus PC app set to maximum resolution at 72Hz. The only setting you need in the Debug tool is make sure sharpening is set on. Any other tweaks are just fluff Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.5GHz. Asus-Z170-PRO MB - CORSAIR H105 HYDRO CPU COOLER Nvidia RTX 3080 ti - 16GB DDR4 2666MHZ HYPERX SAVAGE. -
It's great for games that are optimised for it, like Beat Saber, but good luck using it for DCS

You go to the Oculus PC app. Select devices. Assuming your Quest is connected to the PC there will be a ticked green circle. Click the arrow and scroll the resulting window down to 'graphics preferences'. Here you can set refresh rate and rendered resolution. To get 1:1 pixel (maximum quality) rendering on the Quest you need to move the slider far right. This will render the image at native resolution in the centre of the display panel.

Oculus 2 and link, how to slow battery drain
Lensman replied to Steel Jaw's topic in Virtual Reality
Fair comment Don Well, wireless is more of a convenience and practicality thing for me. My 1:1 replica Spitfire cockpit is right close to my PC so wired VR was how I started. But I have an eclectic taste in VR gaming and I have also gotten into Motor Racing. My Racing Rig is way on the other side of my gaming room so wired, though not impossible, is just damned inconvenient. Once Airlink matured to the state where there is no perceivable difference in visual quality from Link cable it was the obvious choice for me. There are the other joys of wireless of course, like playing Beat Sabre or Skyrim outside in the garden on barmy summer evenings -

Yep, suits me though, my playing sessions are usually no more than 3 to 4 hours. -

This StarTech powered USB card worked for me. It kept the Quest charged to around 80% indefinitely. I'm exclusively using Airlink now though with the Quest Battery strap. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B087G7T234/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -
No. The video stream is just mirrored on your monitor, no extra work for your GPU.

Most VR headsets focus at about 2 metres. So if you need glasses to clearly see objects at that or a further distance, then you need prescription lenses for VR.

It's best to use one of the resolution settings in the Oculus PC app. They are effectively super sampling pre sets. The highest setting maps the Quest's native resolution 1:1 at the centre of the display.

Does a Quest 2 work well enough without a cable?
Lensman replied to lascaris's topic in Virtual Reality
You just need a decent USB expansion card with a dedicated SATA power connection. Quest will stay at around 80% charge indefinitely. -
The re centre binding in the UI works beautifully with the new Air Link feature on the Quest 2. I feel I'm getting a tad better performance and visuals over VD too

Quest 2: Anyone tried AirLink yet
Lensman replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in Virtual Reality
Just tried the AirLink. Not much testing yet but initial impression is that it's at least as good as Link and Virtual desktop. Didn't have the HOTAS, mouse etc input problems that you described tho'. -
Yep, same for me.

Quest 2 hands down. Twice the resolution of the Rift S, but needs a pretty good PC to run it at it's native resolution. I play DCS on my Quest 2 wirelessly using virtual desktop and a dedicated 5GHz router and the visuals are stunning. The Quest has lots of exciting development goodies in the pipeline too like 120hz framerate and custom portals that will allow you too see and access keyboards/controls while in VR.

You need a cable with a right angle plug (like the official Oculus one).
-
That's strange. I had exactly the opposite experience with WIDMOvr. Quality lenses that snap on securely. Beautifully finished and nicely packaged.

Lol, 70 degrees FOV Looks scary tho'
