  1. One of the huge benefits of using a Rift is that you can ignore Steam VR for most games. In fact some Steam games, including another popular flight sim, can be played without Steam VR on the Rift by using Open Composite software :)
  2. I believe the Go is 3 DOF only. It only tracks rotation of your head but not your head's position in space. This would definitely cause nausea in any flight sim environment.
  3. I've had about 3 hours so far. I find them comfortable and the sound quality is very detailed with an excellent bass. No they don't flip away. No, there is no volume or mute facility.
  4. On a slightly different tangent, I just received my set of these. Very pleased with the build quality and audio :) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Soundkit-for-Oculus-Rift-S-Upgrade-your-Rift-S-with-high-quality-Sennheiser/372783418169?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
  5. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the easy fudge for getting an 'over the shoulder' view. Just map the 're centre' view to your HOTAS. Now to check six, turn your head to 3 o'clock, hit 're centre', move head to 9 o'clock and you have a comfortable check six. To reduce any VR nausea shut your eyes while carrying out the procedure. Only takes about 1 second to perform :)
  6. Yes, I did just that. It was a remarkable increase in clarity and detail for me, even with zero super sampling. Great to lose the tracking cameras and much more comfy to wear in my opinion.
  7. Ain't that the truth... To each his own. It's a good thing we're all different :)
  8. If the OP really wants to check his six without enjoying the reality of VR there is an easy fudge. Map the 're centre view' to a HOTAS button. To check six more easily, turn head to look out the side of the canopy, hit re centre view, return head to forward position. It's easy to look directly backwards now. Just hit re centre while looking forward to get back to normal view. I feel queasy just thinking about it :)
  9. You are good to go in VR with that set up. Just crank the i7 to 4.5GHz, it'll be happy at that :)
  10. Yep, most of what I've read over the last few months..the Rift S is gona give you a more detailed crisp image than the Odyssey.
  11. The tether upgrade is great news for Quest owners but the Rift still stands as the best choice for Flight sims. It has a higher pixel count than the Quest and the Quest will have lower refresh and probably greater latency.
  12. Amen to that  This must be a new definition of 'scam' It always seems to be the guys who fly in VR that seem cheerful and happy...just saying
  13. Indeed. I fly warbirds and have a scale Spitfire simpit. The mix of VR and physical controls works really well with a simple cockpit like the Spit. Reaching out for the gear lever or the flap switch and finding them 'right there' is great. Would be sweet to see some virtual hands following my movements :music_whistling:
  14. Sounds like your Rift is losing 3D tracking. The headset cameras need a reasonable amount of room lighting and something to latch on to..plain walls can be a problem.
  15. Also...start DCS from your desktop shortcut. :)
  16. SSAA has no effect in VR (except placebo maybe). It's there for monitor use only. This is from one of the devs some time ago.
  17. Yeah, that's the way I do it too :) I have a button for bringing the menu up mapped to the HOTAS. I tried Voice Attack, but never had much joy with it. The voice recognition was flaky for me and I would forget the actual commands I had set up anyway:megalol:
  18. First point, my DCS is stand alone (NOT Steam version). Using Oculus Tray Tool I find the Rift S doesn't need super sampling any more than 1.4 to give a nice crisp visual. If you are using Steam, someone else may jump in and give advice there.
  19. You got it in one :) Pixel density (super sampling) is the only thing that interpolates resolution.
