  1. The only close closed canopy aircraft I have flown in is was a 2 seat Bocian Glider. I don't recall bashing my head against the canopy. Would this routinely happen in a fast jet or WW11 fighter?
  2. Do you think maybe that you need a different glasses prescription for your RIFT? Can you clearly see the 'screen door effect' of the RIFT display when you hold your head still and study a smooth toned area of the image? My rig was similar to yours before I upgraded the GPU and was getting lovely crisp displays in DCS with my GTX 980.
  3. Ah..my bad
  4. Why do you guys keep tweaking SSAA, it's not intended for and doesn't do anything in VR.
  5. I guess a lot will depend on your local consumer/trading regulations.
  6. Exactly  As mine is well over the 2 year warranty now, I actually super glued that side. Tape works, and you have the option to remove it, but it gets sticky and lets go eventually.
  7. I suggest you fix the right side strap then Don. The trick is to put the headset on and mark the position of the right side strap. Then at least, tape up the strap so it can't move in and out. You'll find that there is enough movement in the left strap to use it normally. Be aware that apart from the audio being routed through the ribbon cable it also powers the rear leds.
  8. Happened to me..the left earphone stopped working. I narrowed it down to the actual earphone being faulty and Oculus replaced it free of charge even tho' Rift was just over two years old. I have since superglued the right side adjustment strap so I don't get the dreaded 'right earphone fail caused by the ribbon cable breaking. There is plenty of adjustment in the left strap for comfortable deployment and no electrical connections that side. Seems to be a design flaw...pleased you found your own solution tho' :)
  9. You'll be fine with that rig. I have the same cpu as you and had a smooth experience with the RIFT before I upgraded from the GTX 980, and mine wasn't even the Ti version :)
  10. I only run VR. I just tried it out of curiosity, I'm fortunate to get great frame rates and smooth projection, but any promised upgrade is worth checking out :) For me, it was a downgrade I'm afraid. Cheers
  11. Gave it a try too. It introduced some stutters (which I rarely suffer from) and the edge of frame artifacts were horrible.
  12. Oculus Home...simples..it just works..no faffing. :)
  13. What dburne says above..this is most important and will make the whole experience more convenient. You'll be using it every time you get in the cockpit.
  14. Should be under 'settings/general' First item in the list - Unknown Sources
  15. ..and of course set DCS to recognise a VR headset :)
  16. I just noticed after the latest Beta update there is a 'Captoglove' setting in the Special settings menu.
  17. So if I understood the article correctly, they are working on a software based focus system, rather than the mechanical one they showed in the earlier Half Dome demos?
  18. I have two sensors, one on my cockpit about a metre from my head. When flying I switch off the other sensor and get perfect tracking. The second sensor is is about a metre away from the cockpit and up near the ceiling. When I play games with Touch, I switch on the second sensor and rotate the cockpit sensor to face the same way. I find the Rift just picks up the sensors and works flawlessly. It doesn't seem 'picky' at all about placement.
  19. I think those who choose not to fly in VR because of the perceived 'low image quality' have a while to wait for a VR system that will meet their expectations. The Odyssey + and the PIMAX are a step up, but by no means 'next generation'. I am so hooked on my RIFT I see past the lower image quality and enjoy the experience greatly :)
  20. That's really strange. I did some careful tests using the Oculus Tray tool HUD to monitor performance and switching SSAA of and on had absolutely no effect on display or performance. I seem to remember a few months one of the devs saying that SSAA is actually disabled in VR.
  21. I built a Spitfire cockpit to use with TrackIR and projector/screen. Then I tried RIFT VR and couldn't go back to the flat screen. The upside is that all the controls and switches 'fall to hand' naturally, however there aren't many in a Spit cockpit :) Mixed reality with chroma key for outside view would be great with a physical cockpit. I wouldn't know where to start :)
  22. One thing this 'Touch' control function may achieve is tempt new DCS users who don't want the expense and hassle of buying a Joystick or HOTAS setup. Just a thought...
  23. It still could be that they are talking about the 'Touch' controllers for using fingers to interact with switches, knobs etc. Anyone who has used the Oculus Touch controllers in an app where they are properly implemented will know that you can use your fingers naturally with some dexterity.
