My Dad was the first Flight Deck officer for the new Yorktown CV-10, a plank holder, and said that this hanger deck catapult was used just a time or two during the shake down cruise to prove that it worked but never again. He told me that the pilot that went out that hanger door had told him it was the most terrifying thing he had ever done as a Naval Aviator!!

    To answer the original poster's question, I would definitely be interested in a full fidelity module of the Dakota and would gladly pay handsomely for it!!

  5. Yep, when you get right down to it, about the only thing that the Corsair and the Jug have in common are the total number of cubic inches and the fact that P & W made both of their engines. Different props, different cowl flaps, different induction and different exhaust systems. I would bet that the limitations for the engines are quite different as well.
  6. Just remember GazAce, the Seahawks are towed from the tail so wherever you place them, there must be room left at the tail for the tug and tow bar. Same goes for the fixed wing. They are towed from the nose so they will normally be tailed (pushed backwards) into wherever they are going to be spotted if it's up against a deck edge or obstruction such as the island.

  8. Dunx, are you saying that the Tacans on the tankers worked normally by NOT using the AA position for the Tacan in your cockpit??
  9. I just noticed the same problem. 71X set up for air to air gave me a bearing as well as the correct identifier, ARC, but no distance or time to station. Others in my squad reported the same thing. It was correctly put in the ME for that tanker also.

  11. I wonder if they could accurately model the effects of the wingtips not coming off simultaneously, which is what drove them to do away with that "feature".

  14. The fact that the Bearcat's only combat came at the hands of the French as a ground attack plane has always made me scratch my head. I don't think that it would be too far off the mark to say that, at the time when the US Navy transferred all those F8F Bearcats over to the French Navy, it was one of the best prop driven fighters in the world but I'll never understand why it ended up in South East Asia hauling around 5" rockets and a couple 500 lb bombs when they had the F4U-7 Corsair available to them. Regardless, I will gladly jump into it's virtual cockpit and fly around on any map in the world of DCS and love every minute of it!!

  16. There's not much I wouldn't give for a bunch of Skyraiders, Panthers and -4 Corsairs sitting on the flight deck of an Essex class carrier off the coast of...........anywhere!! My imagination is cocked and ready

Instead of the SAR Helo script, which I use quite regularly, how about just having an AI Huey take off from the helideck and do the same thing that the MOOSE script does by using the "Follow" advanced Waypoint command? The reason I bring it up is because I can't imagine what kind of scripting I would need to do via MOOSE but it would be pretty simple to give the AI Huey the same "set frequency" and "Start transmission" advanced waypoint commands as in your previous solution. A friend and squad mate of mine suggested just placing a second ship with a helideck close by the primary ship and put the AI Huey on that one so as not to fowl the primary helideck. All of these suggestions will work I believe.
  21. It could very well be that the helicopter you are trying to do this with is too big for the helideck. Normally this works on just about any ship with a helideck on it. My favorite helicopter is the Mi-8 and it doesn't fit on most of the smaller ships with helidecks. I suggest you try a Huey or Gazelle.
  22. Rather than shiny new toys to play with from the cockpit, I'm really looking forward to 2022 in terms of the Mission Editor. 1. Dynamic weather (and not what we have today that requires a PHd in meteorology to figure out and which only primarily affects wind direction and velocity) 2. Dynamic campaigns 3. Transition to the 3D world while in the ME when placing static/AI objects into a mission 4. Different sea states that are not dependent solely on wind velocity 5. Numbered, assignable parking slots on the carrier deck just like on an airfield 6. .... that's more than enough for now
  23. Boosterdog, thanks again for posting this solution. I originally tried the method that is posted just above here. I created a moving zone on the ship and gave it an advanced waypoint instruction of transmitting a frequency and message on a loop, which it did! The only problem is that, like others have reported here, it just stayed in the water where it began as the ship sailed on into the sunset. Baily's solution though, of placing a helicopter on deck with the same type of continuous transmitting instructions worked like a charm! The only real pisser about this work around is that it must be done with a ship that has a helideck that can accommodate more than one helicopter. It's really a shame that we have to go to such convoluted methods in order to accomplish such a simple task. If ED wished to, they could provide Tacan and even an ICLS to any ship in the DCS World. It's just a matter of coding. I really do understand that it is also a huge matter of priorities and resources as well. I just hope that some day, we'll get the ability as mission designers/builders to assign an NDB frequency to a ship so that a helicopter equipped with an ADF can find it out on the ocean in less than ideal weather conditions. It could be something as simple as just allowing us to assign the same type of advanced waypoint instructions to ships as we do to aircraft. That would eliminate the need for us to use a helicopter to do the transmitting. It just can't be that difficult for ED to figure out.
