Thanks for the enlightening response. It will be interesting to see what develops in a few years down the road.

I have a question about maps - I think I understand what is responsible for the limitation on the size of the map, that being the amount of detail depicted within the boundry of the map. So, if you look at the Caucus map, the actual size of the area that you can see in the ME is far larger than the area that is populated with cultural detail such as roads, bridges, buildings and such. So my question is, if one were to build a map encompassing the whole Solomon Islands chain, from the northern tip of Bouganville to the southern tip of San Cristobal, but only filled in the cultural areas of the few towns, villiges and airfields on each island, as long as the pixels for all of those did not exceed the max limit, would that be doable? How much am I missing here? Not trying to be a smart ass, just want to get an education.

I'm right there with you in that minority!

I'd really like to see some kind of technical reference to this. I am a retired helicopter pilot and spent the last 29 of my 45 year career flying heavy lift helicopters equiped with various types of Automatic Flight Control Systems and never once in all of that time have I ever heard any kind of reference to the yaw channel of the AFCS contributing to the avoidance of LTE, either intended or accidental. While I can easily believe that you have experienced this in the DCS World of helicopter flying, I can assure you that no such thing exists in the real world. At least not in human controlled helicopters anyway. I can't speak to digitally controlled helicopter drones (with conventional rotor systems).

I would certainly hope that getting the Bat bomb working is not going to hold up the Corsair's release! I don't think that it was delivered by the Corsair in actual combat very many times, if at all. It's an interesting weapon but without any IJN shipping for targets it will be of little use. The pilot of the Corsair has no control over the unit once it has been dropped so the team looking into it could easily continue to do so after the Corsair has been released into Early Access. Just my opinion.

I realize how intimidating the Mission Editor can be, especially to those that have never even opened it up before. It might be like asking someone to use quantum physics to explain the Big Bang theory to a pre schooler! However, I would bet a fair amount of ED miles that once you try it out, with a little help from someone that has a bit of knowledge about it, you might just find it a little adicting and delve further into it. Building a simple little mission with your favorite ride in a new map could wind up being almost as rewarding as flying that module after you finish the mission. I would say it could be analogous to a model rail roader that spends more time building his layout (which is never really finished) than he does running his trains!

Thanks to all for their help on this. To AvgWhiteGuy, I created a folder in Saved Games>DCS.openbeta>Liveries titled, "hummer" (without the quotation marks of course. And into that folder I placed the skin folder, "Follow Me Yellow" again, without the quotes. It works great and looks awesome. Thanks everybody!

I understand what it is you are saying but I have to ask about the PG map. I used the yard stick tool in the ME and measured almost 1000nm east to west and a little over 600nm north to south. Now I'll grant you that much of that map area is not populated with anything and a lot of it is also covered with water. I don't see a huge technical barrier to producing a map that covers, as I said, " ... as much of the Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand area as possible...". I'm not asking for a super detailed map with all of the cultural features that might be there now, or even 70 or 80 years ago. Just a reasonable facsimilie with which to allow our immaginations to run free! A bunch of water to place Yankee Station in and a Forestal class CV to occupy that station would be a good start.

Thanks Donny.

I very much second this request however I wouldn't want the developers to stop at just a river delta. I would think that it wouldn't really be worth it unless they delivered as much of the Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand area as possible in order to provide for something a bit wider in scope than just a Fortunate Son's helicopter playground. This area was fought over from WWII up until the end of the Vietnam war in the mid 70's, at least as it would apply to our DCS World anyway.

would you have any interest in a Naval module DCS Fleet ops
AG-51_Razor replied to upyr1's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I couldn't agree more! I also believe that it would possibly lead to a whole host of additional areas of operations within the DCS World. Well said Mr_Sukebe -
Oh Brother!! C'mon funny feeling!

My Dad was a plank owner of the USS Yorktown, CV-10.

Leave it to a rotorhead to use his imagination and come up with a plausable scenario right off the bat!!

Thanks Silver_Dragon. The news about more AI US Navy and IJN/IJA aircraft is very welcome indeed!
-
I'm not positive about this but I think that I read somewhere that M3 LLC was hinting at some AI opposition assets coming out with their Corsair. Absent this being a real thing, I totally agree with you Harlikwin!! They (ED) have indicated that they are going to release a WWII version of their Marianas map and if that is also a real thing, why do that without an intention to populate it with WWII assets - specifically PTO assets.
-
rkk01, we are definitely in total agreement! However, there should be no debate whatsoever about Corsairs being operated off of CVE's in WWII and again, in an even bigger way, during the Korean War. The only discrepancy is that it was the Marines that flew them off the Jeeps, not the Navy. Maybe it had something to do with the size or composition of their testicals?? but most likely it was an upper management decision.
-
rkk01, while I fully agree with and support your request for a carrier to go along with the possible F6F from ED, know that the Enterprise, CV-6, is the only Yorktown class CV that ever saw the Hellcat operate off it's flight deck. The Yorktown, Hornet and Wasp were all sunk before the Hellcat became operational. Personally, I would like to see one of the Light carriers modeled, if for no other reason than they are fairly forgotten in the sim world and their flight decks weren't much larger than a Jeep carrier, which would be fairly challenging. The CVLs' air groups usually consisted of F6Fs and TBMs and would IMHO be a unique and challenging addition to the DCS World's WWII PTO.

Attack it! Or defend it. Or just fly in and play a few rounds of golf!

You are correct in regards to the Corsair's deployment aboard CVEs during WWII. However, towards the end, the Navy was in dire need of more fighters at sea to help protect the fleet against the threat posed by the Kamikaze so a plan was hatched to embark Marine Corsairs aboard CVEs to provide their own close air support for the invasion forces, freeing up the Navy squadrons for air defense. It turned out that the Corsairs were rarely used for the CAS role because of their superiority as a fighter - much to the Marines' disappointment and frustration. It was during the Korean war that Marine Corsair squadrons began operating regularly from CVEs against the communist forces ashore throughout that conflict.

If not already one, Chuck would make an awesome instructor. It's a very rare talent to be able to impart information - especially content that at times can be extremely dry and sleep inducing - in such a manner as to be very interesting, even entertaining sometimes. Thank you Chuck!
