I was under the impression that the shuttle on the current Nimitz class carriers could accomodate a bridle but regardless, the Corsair would definitely not need to use it for takeoff even fully loaded.

investigating Carrier deck crew not marshaling online
AG-51_Razor replied to BoneDust's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah. I'm out of town for a while and not able to test out the latest update (20 May) to see if this problem has been rectified. Any news on this?? -
Fully loaded Corsairs and Skyraiders were routinely deck launched from Essex class carriers. The times when they used the catapults were when operating off of CVEs, or when the number of a/c on the deck of an Essex class carrier left not enough room for a deck launch. There should be no doubt at all of the Corsair's ability to launch from any carrier in DCS World without a. catapult, even the Tarawa with a little wind in the mission.

Absolutely awesome!!!

Well said! I feel the exact same way.

Once y'all ge the DCS ecosystem figured out, I'd like to just say that, for the Pacific Theater of Operations, I would much prefer to see a B-24 Liberator/PB4Y Privateer produced than a B-17. Obviously I'd rather be able to fly it but if not, at least an AI version would make a great addition to both theaters of operations!

I completely understand the OpenBeta thing and appreciate that this SuperCarrier is a marvel of AI engineering as well as a masterpiece of graphics art but the one thing about its current state of disrepair in regards to getting hooked up on the catapults, is that prior to the introduction of 2.7, everything on the SC seemed to be working fairly well. It's just so frustrating for this lay person to see that a) the problem got by the ED testers in the first place and b) the solution would be so elusive. It's not like ED is trying to introduce some brand new SC technology for the first time in the 2.7 patch. It was there already and worked great. Now it's broken. How difficult is it to take a look at the code for the SC catapult AI and see what has changed since 2.7 came down? There's no doubt in my mind that it will get fixed, just frustrated is all.

investigating Carrier deck crew not marshaling online
AG-51_Razor replied to BoneDust's topic in Bugs and Problems
It has been broken for my squad since the big update to 2.7 and although I am quite confident that ED will find a cure for it, I am now building missions that start out on a land base and recover on the boat. It is a most annoying bug! -
A little jealous-multicrew
AG-51_Razor replied to Cgjunk2's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I really don't think there would be any reason for the ED team to bother with trying to create a flight engineer's position for the multicrew cockpit of the Mi-8. There wouldn't be that much, if anything, for the 3rd person to do. -
I have read through all of these posts and am quiet amused by some of the responses. Not in a snarky sort of way, but genuinely amused. I am reminded of an old FAA safety poster on the wall in the office of a Chief Pilot of mine way back when that read, "It takes only about 5 to 10 hous to teach someone how to fly but it takes a lifetime to teach then WHEN to fly!" The bigest difference between this computer sim flying we do and the real thing is the finality in the outcome of one's short comings in skill, knowledge or judgement. I have known many folks through the years that I have "flown with" in the virtual skies that I felt certain would, given just a couple of familiarization flights, be able to fly a general aviation plane such as a small Cessna or Piper around the pattern, taking off and landing completely without assistance from me. That however, in no way makes them even remotely safe to get in a real plane and just taxi down to the gas pump for some fuel. Conversely, I know an awful lot of RL pilots that couldn't even begin to assimilate the amount of knowledge that a lot of nonpilots in this community have for a single airframe, let alone multiple types! The skill (hand-eye coordination) and knowledge necessary for flying are certainly big components of it but just as important are the maturity and judgement that each pilot must have in order to safely apply the first two but which are totally not required for this DCS World we fly in!

Never mind, I figured it out.

I made a 'hummer' folder in 'C:\Users\(your PC name)\Saved Games\DCS\Liveries\hummer\' like so, and then placed the Follow Me Yellow folder in the hummer folder but I do not get a choice for "Follow Me Yellow" in the ME after placing the Hummer into the mission. Has the file structer changed in the last few years for this vehicle? Awesome skins BTW and the Jeep works great!

THIS!! +1

Up until a few patches ago, the animation for dumping fuel in the Hornet was just about indistinguishable from a high altitude con trail. The ED team fixed it beautifully and it became just a mist coming out of the tips of the vertical stabilizers. With the latest update to 2.7.0.4625, the animation for the fuel dump has disappeared completely. It's certainly not a show stopper by any means, I just wanted to let y'all know about it. Thanks again for the great roll out of 2.7!!

Nominate parking spot in mission editor for SC
AG-51_Razor replied to Avalanche110's topic in Wish List
I believe that you are absolutely right but the thing is, somebody makes the decision as to exactly where each and every plane is spotted on deck prior to a launch based on some very good reasons. I just wish that, as the mission builder, I would be allowed to make those decisions based on my criteria for the mission. -
Yes, I'd like to add my thanks to the awesome ED team! Y'all have done an incredible job with this latest update. Count me as an extremely satisfied customer!

Nor an F4U for that matter And while we're at it, US Navy F6F's flew off several CVE's in the Med in support of the invasion of southern France......and I believe that they managed to bag a couple of JU-88's or He-111's. There was no Luftwaffe fighter opposition.

Thanks for the quick response Hawkeye! Not only do I NOT have any models to share, I wouldn't have the slightest clue where to even look for one. However, I would appreciate a PM from you if you find something worth modding for DCS, as I DO have some disposable cash that I would be glad to contribute for the cause.

Hawkeye, are there any plans afoot to bring a CVE into DCS World? I assume that it, being a carrier, is probably more technically challenging in terms of damage modeling, the arresting wires and catapult but just wondering. It would definitely be epic to be able to somewhat recreate the Battle of Samar with Taffy 3, albeit with only Corsairs! I have had to develop a very active immagination since coming to DCS World

That is me!! .......a few yaers ago without the beard.

Like I said, you've got to love this community! And I do. I appreciate you and your devotion to accuracy however you have to understand that the vast majority of the folks in the DCS world are not nearly as invested in the accuracy or realism as you are and their frame of reference is a little different. You are commenting about rivet and panel lines, small little bulges where a certain RWR antenna was located on the A model and not on the B, or vise versa and there is a very large group of folks in this world of DCS that don't know the difference between a flap and a leading edge slat, or a spoiler and an aileron. The one thing we all have in common though is our love of this simulation and how beautifully it is done.....even if a couple of details are wrong. It is a very good explanation of the old saw, "ignorance is bliss".
