Sounds like an issue with the map. Caucasus in DCS is known to produce icing without visible moisture. Maybe Persian Gulf map does not even *with* visible moisture? -

In the real aircraft, certain warnings are automatically transmitted over the radio. It's a way of telling a ground station or other aircraft that you are having an emergency without having a human do it. That's why the warning starts with the aircraft identification. -
IZLID. Used for both confirming targets as well as directing ground units to targets. Much easier for the Apache to tell the JTAC "It's where my laser is pointing" rather than trying to pass a grid.

You should be able to find bird strike images. I remember seeing pictures of a bird strike that came into the rear cockpit some time ago. Also, I think you're underestimating how hard it is to hit those front windscreens with a weapon fired from the ground. From the front, you're far more likely to go through the floor (which has armor panels) or through the TADS/AIA.

Bort/Board 11 is you're aircraft identification/tail number, like Kang said. It's set in the mission editor. As far as why the fire doesn't go out, I am not sure. You could try immediately pressing the alternate discharge button for the gearbox compartment to use the second bottle to try to put out the fire and see if that helps. I'm not sure about the logic in DCS regarding fires and how fast they decide you need to explode. -
Well, they aren't, and they can't. They seem pretty good at preventing bird penetrations, though.

The ones on top are just openings to let air into the engine compartment to help with cooling. On the side, those are the openings for the tubes from the engine compressor bleed valves. Below a certain N1 RPM (84-87%), the compressor bleed valves open to let air out of the compressor to prevent compressor stalls. -

It says right on the cover page that unless you are DoD or a DoD contractor, you are not authorized to have the document. So if you have it, and you are not one of those two categories, you would be wise to not spout it all over the Internet.

It's all good, I'm not trying to get into a contest of any kind. I'm a crew chief on a utility helicopter and I've done a lot of missions in Afghanistan over the last several years with mixed stacks and all the distances were always given in nautical miles for holds and orbits for both helicopters and fixed wing assets. Sorry I took this off topic. I had a CAS class earlier today with a former CCT/current JTAC so if I see him again I'll see if he has any insight.

I guess what I'm saying is, if the JTAC says tells us to hold "Echo 5" he means 5 nautical miles east of the target area, not kilometers. Or if he puts us at "Alpha 3" he means orbit the target area at a 3 nautical mile radius. And this wasn't an exception or one-off, it was SOP for many years until at least 2020.

I mean, orbits and holds from the JTAC are still given in nautical miles for rotor wing (and fixed wing) in the stack.

"WAS" in the AH-64 means "Weapon Action Switch" so I'm not sure what you're referring to there. Units for barometric pressure can be set to inches of mercury or millibars. Units for distance on the TSD as well as for waypoint distances on the FLT page can be set to nautical miles or kilometers. Fuel is in pounds only. EDIT: Target distances are in meters only, I'm pretty sure.

Seems unlikely? They are not exactly as easily removeable as on the Mi-8/Mi-24, where they are just installed with quick pins. -

Well then it's best to say we just don't know the range. The range in the computer is 794 meters and during the video we don't see him lasing for a new range, so we don't really know the exact range. -

If you're looking at the same timestamp I'm looking at...that's ~800 meters. 1310 is the aircraft's altitude in feet. -

Mi-8 and Mi-24 altitude hold does in fact turn off completely when the collective brake is pressed, and must be reengaged after moving the collective and setting the new desired altitude. -
238 is the AH-64A 251 is the AH-64D So, not very helpful at all for DCS AH-64D.

Pretty much all of them coming out now from Dillon are 3000 unless you make a specific request for something different. Even TF went from low/high rate (2k/4k) to just straight 3k. When I went to Dillon for training they said they actually tested one at 10k and apparently it worked but they felt it wasn't viable. That being said, I'm pretty sure the ones in-game are 3000 rpm. But I'm not positive. I was wrong, see post below.

My immediate reaction was that the vast majority of that footage was not of an Mi-28.
