September 30th patch same behavior after WEP usage and landing...'engine degraded' after shutdown. Sometimes sooner, sometimes way later after shutdown. This was the most extreme I bother to let it go. I saw this was flagged as reported, any status update on this? @NineLine Engine degraded after shutdown SEP30th.trk

What kind of paramaters in tracks at this point would be helpful? I've got two pages worth in the thread below about engine degraded...engine on and off.

I don't think that's correct operation to leave everything wide open, especially the intercooler doors. With the oil and intercooler doors open how much more are you gaining in top speed vs just running full military power? That's alot of drag to pull through the sky for little gain. I certainly appreciate you suggesting a work around to the problem, but I would like ED to fix this so we can operate in a normal way...ala not having engine failures in cruise randomly or after the engine is shutdown after landing. It seems like some random failure that gets activated when ADI is used for any length of time because it's certainly not related to the engine even running at all if it at variable times after shutdown the engine 'degrades.'

Do bullet holes in AI planes affect the flight model?
Cool-Hand replied to bephanten's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I've noticed the same thing, I think the bullet holes are just for decoration. -
Downloaded today's patch used 5 mins of ADI, landed, engine degraded after shutdown. Attached screenshot details times in the track. Engine degraded after shutdown Aug14th.trk

Ah thanks, had no idea!

If you don't want to download and watch the track, click on the ~3 min video of the track I posted and fast forward to the end. The engine is off and the failure pops up after a little over 2 mins, I have the log visible in the video. Also, see the debriefing screen I posted with timestamps. I've had it happen a few times online after engine off and rearming and refueling, only to start and have, what I could only surmise, the engine degraded. I don't think I can see the failure log in multiplayer. I had a day in between work and recorded this on my second run to test and see if that was what was really going on. Yes, I've reinstalled the module and DCS for that matter. Previously back in January when I posted the thread I was using a Warthog Stick and Throttle with and without TARGET, then direct in game mapping. I upgraded to Virpil CM3 and Alpha stick use RS mapper currently but tried also direct binding in game to check. Software and hardware I think can be ruled out...except on ED's end.

Sounds awfully similar to the p47 and Dora engine degraded bam outta nowhere the engine dies while cruising around.

Engine degraded after shutdown Aug2nd.trk I fly ~5 mins WEP, subsequently land right after this run and taxi off the runway. The engine degrades two minutes sixteen seconds AFTER shutting down the engine. This is almost a carbon copy of how the Mustang was a few years back. I have included the Track, Debrief, and video of the Track. Not sure what all else I can provide for this as evidence there is a problem with the modelling.

1 min 54 sec.trk DCS Version 2.9.6.58056 Getting under 2 minutes of ADI usage before 'Engine Degraded' Very repeatable, ran the track 3 times to be sure. No active pause no time compression.

I use currently Rsmapper for all my modules and haven't seen a problem yet. Is it giving errors when you try to run or something ? I remember target was kind iffy sometimes if it would start correctly or not, sometimes my stick would work but not the throttle. Just had to restart it a bunch till it did work.

Yeah it still degrades the engine for me after 5 minutes of ADI usage. That's the main problem I have, it's the engine degrading at cruise power or max continuous afterwards.the engine should and did last much longer but I understand it's a game at the end of the day so some limit has to be coded. This reminds me a lot of how the Mustang used to be years ago, the engine would seize all the sudden at a seemingly random point after using WEP rating. The R-2800 was renowned for its durability, ED needs to fix it so that one can at least operate the engine as laid out via the engine charts in the pilots manual.

2.9.6 update still the same issue. Here are two more tracks... Same thing as before ran for 5 mins then engine died at max continuous, if anyone actually looks at these from ED. One try didn't last the full 5 mins but forgot to save the track. There are plenty above to choose from like that. todays up date still degraded engine.trk todays up date still degraded engine2.trk

correct as is AI SPITFIRE BOMBS NOT DETONATING
Cool-Hand replied to Rene Coulon's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah I'd definitely lean more towards it being a bug as well. No problem! -

Cool-Hand replied to Rene Coulon's topic in Bugs and Problems
They will work if you set the nose and tail fuses to the same delay, but if you leave one or the other 'plugged' nothing goes boom. -
Todays update. Still getting random failures with WEP usage, still sometimes the engine does not last 5 mins at WEP before 'Engine Degrading' Update Engine Degraded 4 mins 30s .trk

I've tried different combos of rpm and mixture settings but mostly ends up the same or reduced performance to a degree it isn't full power anymore... but I don't expect those to work. The engine charts are not ambiguous about their settings the engine should operate at for full power, cruise, etc. Running reduced rpms to cheat a timer or some hidden parameter seems very il2'ish.

Maybe its that Ive been away a week or two but it looks like they updated the P-47 cockpit reflections from the baked in version. It looks more like the P51's updated canopy. I don't remember seeing that in the changelog, but thanks for the update ED!

New hot fix patch Version 2.9.4.53707 Still having WEP usage causing Engine Degraded at random intervals. A new wrinkle, I have longer ones but this lasts 1 min and 1 second in WEP. I haven't experienced a failure that fast before. I'm not sure even abusing the engine to the extremes could cause a failure that fast... Hot Fix One 1 1sec min degraded engine.trk

Use of boost during ground attack role.
Cool-Hand replied to Gunfreak's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
I've read that as well but it seems to be a bit of an internet myth. If you leave them linked at low altitude you won't get the benefit of full supercharger power and be using the Turbo add to the partial power to get to your manifold pressure desired setting. In that case there is a power loss being experienced by running the turbo and only partial supercharger since if you run both at max you can overboost the engine. Linking them both, you are only getting partial power from both if you aren't taking off or something. If you don't link them and max out the supercharger on the engine and then still are shy of the desired manifold pressure, you can add the Turbo to make up for extra power. Its the same principle as going higher and needing the Turbo to make up for supercharger loss of power with altitude being only a single stage supercharger. The Turbo is there to make up for the lack of variable speed supercharger and is also why it gets faster the higher it goes with no drop offs in performance until it's max altitude or maximum turbo speed is encountered. Worst case test it in DCS for yourself, only takes a few minutes.
