Yeah it happens in the clear for me, away from clouds with pitot heat on in winter conditions and no visible precip of any type. The pitot heater doesn't seem to prevent the tube from icing over.

Awesome, thanks for posting this, i find the dcs manual to be a little lacking at the moment compared to the Mustang.

P-47 Engine Failure during landing approach.
Cool-Hand replied to Lykurgus's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
Are they modeling carb icing now? -
Thanks for the mod, works great for me, know what you mean about those thick lines in the default one. Any idea of the folder structure to use for the saved games folder? Would it go in the cockpit_p47d-30 folder i use for my customized pit? Do i need a description lua?
-
Would like to know too, i have really awful stutters on this map
-
Thanks, yeah for sure a wingman is better but not the topic of this post....
-
Just throwing in that I was in the damage model server tonight and heard no bullet hits in the p51 but i did in the p47
-
Yeah a while back seems there was some kinda change to it, the regulator does a better job within reasonable flight regimes and power settings. Seems to help with streamlining too not have the radiator doors half open or more all the time.
-
I know its still an EA aircraft but i was wondering if this was planned to be added to the P47? The mirror in the Mustang has saved my bacon quite a few times.

Yeah not sure if its a mod or not its been in the game files since I've owned the Mustang but it works fine. I don't want to derail the thread but... If that link didnt help here is how I got it to work in a quick way. it took me some tea leaf reading and black magic to wrap my mind around it the first time...its been a long time but this is how I recall doing it I got it to work from the Saved Games folder after the 2.5.6 update by putting it in the Liveries (may to make one) folder then made a Cockpit_p51D-25-NA folder, made a folder called Default (because I am lazy and don't bother selecting it in game under custom cockpits). Then made a lua file that looked something like this (note: I use a pilot mod and used to use a cockpit mod so that part isn't necessary unless you do as well, so the 2nd line with cpt_photo is pertinent here) livery = { {"p51d-cpt01", 0, "p51d-cpt01_mod", false}; {"p51d-cpt_photo",0,"MustangPinUp", false}; {"pilot_P51_SP1",0,"killercrowpilot1", false}; {"pilot_P51_SP2",0,"killercrowpilot2", false}; {"pilot_P51_kneeboard",0,"mfd3",true}; --dcs default {"p51d-mirror", 0 ,"mirrors",true};--mirrors texture replacement with runtime rendered one } Then edit the file from the the Program Files DCS World OpenBeta>Mods>aircraft>p-51D>Cockpit>Textures>P-51D-CPT-Textures game tree named Mustang_photo (note so long as the file name in the lua match and the file name in the saved games folder you created match I believe it will work) and stick it in the Saved games folder that you created so that it passes integrity check for multiplayer and doesn't get wiped every update. See if that works for you, great feature to have and would love it for the Jug!

Would be great to have!
-
Just to add to this I get this frequently in the P51D as well after pulling Positive or zero G after the 2.5.6 update
-
You can do it with a custom cockpit through the saved game folder and it passes IC

For 9th airforce p51's sure but its pretty well known that the 8th widely used 72 in. of manifold pressure also for their mustangs. I'm just saying that not including a power setting that "was historically used" for balance purposes, which is the way i read your previous post, is not really a really good argument. Its not like it was a rare thing only 10 or 20 planes ran with.
-
If you prefer balance then just do like we used to do and fly cammo'd p51s vs regular painted ones...dont get much more balanced than that! Personally I'd prefer the most accurate and historical versions applicable loadouts and variants for our stable of warbirds.

Did the Mustang got the new merlin sounds as the Spitfire?
Cool-Hand replied to Eviscerador's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Wow great sound update for the Mustang! Glad to see the WWII side getting progressively better and better! These sounds are a marked improvement over the old stock ones! -
Options are always nice, varying the ammo belts would be a much more realistic option than convergence variance. Without a more detailed damage model (coming soonish?) it really wouldn't matter much being able to set different patterns or much difference in ammo belting. I mean if you can't hit someone at 300 yds setting your convergence to 350 or 250 yds isn't really going to help matters that much. A lot of research was done by the Army Air Corps on the best settings to use all around with their 50 cals. It must've been a decent choice...reference the luftwaffe being clobbered out of the sky by the USAAC.

The way I have understood it from my readings of the US Army Air Corps being as we are talking in the P47 forum, was that there were maybe a couple of standardized convergence settings, mainly though I think they differentiated between what the squadron was tasked to do. I.E. the 8th AF fighters typically doing escort runs (depending on the year of course) and the 9th AF doing much more Close Air Support. I believe there were different range settings for primarily ground attack vs escort as well as ammo belting used. The main problem though with going with exotic custom convergence settings for each pilot is the fact that most of the time, even when you got your own personalized aircraft in the group, that didn't mean you were the only pilot to fly it. Reasons being for scheduling pilots with availability and maintenance you had to switch things up. In that regard it's better to keep standardized settings so one pilot will know what to expect when they pull the trigger. It's much more important to be able to use the plane between different flight crews and use it rather than have each plane a special case that can only be used by one pilot. Having available airframes for a mission would definitely trump having each one only able to be used by one pilot. This is not even to mention the fact that when guys in the USAAC went through initial gunnery training in the states and "clobber college" in theater they used the standard convergence settings on all those aircraft. By reasoning if you get pretty comfortable shooting with those settings, why would you want to suddenly change that up while flying combat. It was WWII, pretty much anything and everything happened that you can imagine, just by the sheer scale of it all. I'm sure custom convergence was used by some guy at some point in the USAAC but I'm thinking it was a very rare thing overall. I'm not sure about the RAF and other airforces, maybe they just had a surplus of aircraft the US didn't have (aka very doubtful) and could customize each airframe and only have one pilot for each one and still be able to operate at squadron strength, but for the USAAC I feel pretty confident that it was very rare overall. Talking about the P-47 specifically from the book "Hell Hawks" Here is a previous post I made on it for the P-51 Mustang that includes an excerpt mentioning group harmonization. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3203488&postcount=37

Hmmm I must have missed the changelog where they said they put it back in then....when about time wise was it put back in? I remember them taking it out since i believe when it was in, all the warbirds at the time 190 and 109 were also benefitting from it when that was historically inaccurate. I dont know about the death part at 4 to 6gs for a few seconds...guess you could have a heart attack lol. Ive hit 5 for a few seconds doing aerobatics.... I could definitely see a blackout happening though if you arent ready for it or something and arent in semi ok shape.

Any word on the g suit situation? I noticed a new marketing vid from ED for the stang and was wondering if it was going to get some love.

Another 737-8 MAX plunges down with no surviors
Cool-Hand replied to Worrazen's topic in Military and Aviation
Na it's pretty obvious what to do. Below the throttles there are two switches that will fix any runaway trim issues, labeled "Stab Trim Cut Out." Pretty self explanatory... not to mention the electric trim switch will inhibit the auto trim for several seconds or so to figure out what is going on and flip the cutout switches and use the hand crank to trim manually. I fly the Max 8 pretty frequently outta KMIA to KLGA and KJFK, it's a pretty nice plane, you hardly know you aren't flying and NG besides the extra screens and a few missing lights and switches. I know the back is a little more cramped with the aft lavs so it's pretty obvious to the pax and FA's :D Now, not to knock Ethiopian or anything but the FAA mandated extra training in the US for just this type of malfunction with the MCAS, which I did back in December. I got no clue what kinda training they do in Africa beyond what a few buddies have told me from flying there...it's not flattering. Maybe they didn't do that at Ethiopian yet or something for some reason. This knee jerk reaction isn't necessary until we have the facts of the accident in...but you know the media now a days, why wait for those. If it's something else structural or another type of flight control issue sure, ground them all but if it turns out to be similar to the Lion Air issue, it's not some unrecoverable software bug that's gonna drop you out of the sky. -
Yeah still missing but it still works fine via the saved game folder
-
Well they did update the visuals at least and they look phenomenal, always good to see some warbird love. We supposedly will see a new damage model at some point... gotta think positive brother. Although with as many years as i've plied the DCS skies, you gotta be positive for a looonnggg time. I don't know how much trouble it would be to put that back in though since i'm pretty sure it was removed around the time the German planes were released. Figure the coding is still in there somewhere.

Any word on getting this feature back for the Mustang? Would be nice to have a little extra G tolerance available to use the P51's high speed maneuverability a little more effectively. I recall the module having this feature years ago.

Difference between P-51D-25-NA and P-51D-30-NA?
Cool-Hand replied to Aluminum Donkey's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
That and when you request repair to fix the overheated gun barrels if you use more than half your ammo. The 50's in extra shotgun mode don't have the same oomph
