[FIXED INTERNALLY] Flashing X on Radar Page, Left DDI
Strong05 replied to Peaches's topic in Bugs and Problems
Seeing the same X on the left MFD radar page. -
Did you try turning the settings to low in WMR? I found that leaving it in auto or on high had a performance hit for me. Might be worth a shot.
-
It's not worth twice as much... enjoy the Rift!
-
I'm not sure why everyone loves the Rift so much. I've used it, the vive and the odyssey. The Odssey is better in every regard (for seated experience) except it does not have support for asynchronous warp (it's rift exclusive software) and that's not without it's nay sayers (just read the oculus thread here). If I were to do it all over again I would buy the odyssey over the rift everyday without a doubt. I believe they are the same price at $400. If performance is really a concern then turn your PD down until you get a better GPU.

Check out the dedicated VR sub thread (in this input section but a sub thread at the top). Lots of reviews I think you will find helpful. The Vive Pro and Samsung Odyssey are the only higher res solutions out right now. Many are waiting for the PiMax 8k or next gen oculus. I'm able to run the Odyssey with a very similar setup as you (same gpu and ram, I7 6700). I am discovering that that's not enough ram for some mp servers though.
-
Pretty sure the Odyssey uses the same exact steam VR software (except it's been modded to work with WMR) that the Vive does. Which means it has the same limitations. I don't believe they have the asynchronous warp tech, however both my odyssey and Vive deal very well with frame rates below 45. It only gets choppy below 30 FPS.
-
OC the cpu first. RAM clock speed is also good for DCS. I saw noticeable improvements in frame rate going from ~2200 to 3300. Not sure what the returns are past that in 2.5.

I've had both the Vive and the Rift and if I had to choose between them the Vive with the deluxe headstrap is by far the better HMD (tracking, clarity, brightness). I haven't used an Odyssey yet but it presents the best value for resolution (same as Vive pro) at the moment with the easiest physical setup. Of course if money is no object, vive pro is probably the way to go for the best experience today.

I can read most instruments fine with the vive (@PD 1.5). One of the big tricks to getting good clarity is finding the "sweet spot" on your HMD. I believe the thinner cushion trick works on the SO as well. This did WONDERS to the Vives clarity and greatly improved the ability to read the instruments.

Effect of RAM Clock Speed on DCS in VR
Strong05 replied to The Integrator's topic in Virtual Reality
When I built my PC about 2 years ago for 1.5 my research on the forums here also showed that Ram clock speed is important to a degree. I played with the clock speed and did notice a few more FPS with higher RAM clock speed (forum said anything past 3000MHz netted minimal gains). I haven't played with it in 2.5 to see if it has an effect. But in general, RAM clock speed has a negligible effect on most programs. -
Same here. Was expecting more dramatic change. I've only seen it through VR though so low res might make it look worse then it is.

I was getting pretty good FPS with DS off and PD at 1.5. With DS on I had to reduce PD to 1.2 just to get an avg ~45 fps. Overall I seemed to see less dips in FPS for either setup. This was in single player with just me flying though. Turning PD down to 1.2 had a noticeable effect for me on cockpit clarity. So I preferred flying with DS off and PD at 1.5 with higher FPS (~60-70). Non of the other settings seemed to have much effect on FPS. Even turning shadows off only netted +1-2 FPS.

1070 works just fine for me.

Weekly news says Spring this year.

I am new to VR and I want to choose a GPU...
Strong05 replied to OrionAstronaut's topic in Virtual Reality
1070 here, no problem running DCS with med to high settings in VR. I usually get at least 30 fps on 2.2 and avg 40-45. And that's with PD set to 1.5. DCS is still highly CPU bound, so I would say law of diminishing returns def applies to GPU's in DCS. -
Looks like it might be the same screens as the samsung odyssey. HTC Vive Pro: Screen: Dual AMOLED 3.5" diagonal Resolution: 1440 x 1600 pixels per eye (2880 x 1600 pixels combined) https://www.vive.com/us/product/vive-pro/ Samsung Odyssey: Dual 3.5" AMOLED (1440x1600 dots) https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/hmd/windows-mixed-reality/xe800zaa-hc1us-xe800zaa-hc1us/

Figured this should have it's own thread: https://www.vive.com/us/product/vive-pro/

Actually performance in 2.2 is much worse for me in MP versus 2.1 and 1.5.8. I can only get 40 fps when I look up. Otherwise it's 30 fps or less. I would say it's borderline playable. I tried updating to the latest video drivers with no change. Doesn't seem to matter which airplane I fly either.
-
It's the 15th here too. I just put in 13 Dec 17 and it worked.
-
Pretty sure you can revert the windows updates. Can be done from the settings>updates or something like that. I've done it once before, but who knows with windows 10 these days.
-
Glad I was able to help! You are absolutely correct on the back pressure. You gradually feed it in on landing. For my perfect landing I gradually apply pressure to the stick until I'm on the ground then pull it the rest of the way back. If done correctly you won't bounce.
-
I would agree with what he says. You are past the learning curve, thus making it easier to learn each new tail dragger. I've found the key to a good t/o in the spit is to set the trim to 1+ deg. If you leave it at the default 2+ it stalls the airplane on t/o. On landing be sure to pull all the way back on the stick on touchdown, and use differential wheel braking. Don't rely on rudder authority alone.

Can't really go wrong with either (I've used both). My advice is to wait until black Friday to purchase (I would be surprised if they don't have some kind of sale). Right now I think the rift is a better value. I feel the Vive has the superior overall product, but you will need two things for it: 1. get a thinner cushion or shave the oem one. (this greatly increases clarity and fov). 2. Vive never should have sold without the delux audio strap, and it's an additional $100 which is kind of rip off imo. The wild card is to wait for a couple of months for the new samsung microsoft headset to see if it gets steam compatibility, or for the pimax.

For Vive or Rift, if you have the wands/controllers just turn them on and pick up your virtual hand to block the virtual sun. I've done this a bunch in the vive and it works great.
