Which direciton? VR or TrackIR+HOTAS for A10C?
Strong05 replied to wagdog's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Why not HOTAS and VR? You can get a used Odyssey or Odyssey plus for under $200 and it has similar resolution to the latest gen rift S and Index. I started off with Track IR and I will never go back now that I have VR. -
GTX2080ti -- Is it worth paying the premium ?.
Strong05 replied to Gunnergolly's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Isn't Intel supposed to be releasing a graphics card next year? -
Unplug the usb or power cable for one of the headsets.
-
Please elaborate on your OC job? It sounds like you were CPU bottle necked.
-
Used Odyssey or Odyssey plus is probably the best bang for your buck. Same resolution as Rift S but half the cost or less.
-
I believe that's only the Odyssey plus. The OG Odyssey has the standard OLED pentile pixel layout.

Yes, I've had or still have OG Vive, Odyssey, Rift, and now Index. 1: Better then Odyssey, but mainly in regards to the controllers. For a seated experience it's really hard for me to tell the difference. 2: SDE is better in the Index then any other headset I've had thus far. 3: Clarity is better but primarily in regards to reading text/gauges in the cockpit. It might be easier to spot planes but that's harder to qualify for me based on my experience thus far. 4: Glare and god rays are worse then the Odyssey, and the biggest thing I notice is that the LED panel has a blue tint and is somewhat washed out in comparison to the OLED panel in the odyssey. Lens clarity is also better, but you have to be patient and find the sweet spot. Getting into the sweet spot also helps keep the glare and god rays down. All that being said, I'm not planning on returning my index as of now. I think the index represents a better compromise then the odyssey, but I also play room scale games (pavlov) and was switching between Odyssey and vive pending the type of game. With the index it's one headset for everything. The index is also much more comfortable then the odyssey (on par once you ad an extra strap to the Odyssey). I'm also seeing more FPS then I was seeing in the Odyssey as the better clarity comes at a lower PD (1.4/1.5 vs 1.8 in steam) and with 120hz mode steam lets it interpolate frames at 40 and 60 FPS. So I now routinely see 60 FPS which is more then the 45 I was getting with the Odyssey.

What game settings do you have? MSAA also kills FPS along with default shadows for terrain. Try the VR preset button as well (that magically fixed my FPS problems, even after setting everything back to where I had it I picked up 10fps or more).
-
Running 120 here and frames go between 40 and 60 and will drop below that for busy parts of the map. Seems to be able to interpolate between multiples of 20 for the most part. What PD are you running? I've found this has a big impact on FPS.

[RESOLVED]CB for Undercarriage Drive Pops Out During TO Roll
Strong05 replied to Laobi's topic in Bugs and Problems
Had this happen to me once when I first got the module. Chocked it up to hitting the gear up switch while still on the ground, which popped the CB. Are you sure you're not hitting gear up before you're off the ground? -
Cannot beat SU-27 Bomber Intercept Mission
Strong05 replied to FightingFalcon's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
If you turned on unlimited fuel and flew with a full tank then your ability to maneuver would have been reduced significantly. Reduce your fuel state to 50% or less (pending how much of an advantage you want). You should be able to defeat any AI with a low fuel state in a turn fight in the flanker. -
Ryzen advise for new system (budget)
Strong05 replied to ebabil's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sounds like you know what you're talking about. Could you please share with us the exact gains to be had with a titanium/platiunum PSU over gold with sources? -
Thank you Skouras, but I'm selling as a set.
-
I was running PD 1.8 in steam with DCS set to 1.0. With your system I would think 2.0 PD in steam would be doable.

Ryzen advise for new system (budget)
Strong05 replied to ebabil's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
One of the in depth PSU review sites said there was essentially no effective difference between the seasonic gold and platinum/titanium lines. As always the law of diminishing returns is in effect. -
Selling my Odyssey if you're interested, it is not a plus though (same resolution, only difference is the diffuser to hide the screen door effect). I've read some comments saying the original is sharper for reading text but I can't confirm as I've never used an O+ to compare the too.

Samsung Odyssey in good condition. Comes in original packaging with both controllers. Just upgraded to an Index so I no longer need this. Asking $200 OBO plus shipping (US). Regards, Sorta

I have been running vr beta since day one with the index. I also ran a repair, as I heard that might have some effect on color/contrast. I couldn't tell if it helped or not but it did correct something. Yup, I've been continuously playing with the headset trying to find the right balance between comfort and getting it in the best sweet spot.

Reddit unhelpfulö - maybe you lot can assist?
Strong05 replied to philstyle's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
In my experience most bios pre-sets are garbage. Unfortunately you have to tinker if you want to get good results. It's intimidating at first but once you deep your feet in it's not that hard. Try googling your motherboard along with overclocking and typically you can find some guidelines on how to do it. -
Just got my index last night, here are my first impressions: 1. Screen door effect is significantly reduced versus the Odyssey (immersion in the pit is better because of this) 2. the steam loading screen really makes it obvious that this is an LED not OLED, as it has an apparent blue tint to it. (this isn't as obvious in game). 3. Glare is worse then any other headset I've used. 4. God rays are on par with OG Vive, not as good as Odyssey. with both 3 and 4 above, headset placement does have a big impact so this may improve as I learn how to wear it. 5. So a far I would say the cockpit looks sharper but I haven't spent enough time to say for sure. To be clear I'm comparing this to my experience with my Samsung Odyssey, HTC Vive and have previously owned a OG Rift.

Upgrade 1080 to 2070 super - Worth it?
Strong05 replied to Davee's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Or wait for the 2080 Super. -

Strong05 replied to philstyle's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Are you increasing clock speed and voltage in the bios or are you using software in windows? Could be you just got a bad deal in the silicon lottery. You should be able to safely overvolt to 1.35v on your cpu easily (especially with water cooling). Just monitor your temps while under load, you don't want to exceed 90C. -

I would say OC what you have now and see what that gets you. I have a similar system though and I am very CPU bound on MP maps or any mission/map with even a medium amount of units on the screen/map. I'm also interested in finding out if the new AMD CPU's will be better then what I have but I'm still skeptical as I don't think the IPC will be good enough over come the clock deficit to intel. -
Try deleting your metashader and FXO folders under your saved games folder>DCS. Might have something to do with running extreme view distance? I've only ever run high. Could also be running shadows at default. Seems like most people run the baked in terrain only shadows. Those are just guesses though.
