Actually a thought just occurred to me. I might be wrong but last time I heard ED is working on their new low-fidelity sim called Modern Air Combat. If so, then I'm sure they are already working on or perhaps already have an easy AAR mode. It's just a matter of implementing it into DCS when it's ready.

DCS Mi-8 is 7 years now, time for an update ?
PL_Harpoon replied to Hueyman's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
My take on the subject is that while I believe that free visual upgrade is in ED's best interest, if they decide that it was too much work and charge for it, I wouldn't hold it against them. -
Since this thread is brought back from the dead... Does it break IC?

Wait, are you saying that you're entitled to free model upgrades for your modules? -
What I can see is that he is just turning on everything. Anyway, this was not a serious post as I'm aware that MIDS/Link 16 isn't fully simulated.

Acutally, this is exactly what this pilot does. :D https://youtu.be/yeij-YX9MdY?t=625

I agree. 100% I didn't notice anyone demanding it though. If they decide to give us a free GFX update like with previous models I'd be very happy. If they decide to upgrade the Mi-8 to the modern standards and charge money for it - I'd be happy too. And I'll gladly pay. -
Yeah, judging by the upcoming release of MSFS 2020 I too would bet on the civ gear. Which is fine for me cause just recently I've bought a new Warthog setup and would be sad to be just a few weeks too early with my purchase ;)

I like this idea as you could also make slider that would change the "strength" of that tractor beam. Just like the take-off assist for warbirds. That way one could learn AAR without the frustration by slowly reducing the assist as they get better at it.
-
Points 1, 2, 4, 5 - totally with you. Point 3 - ok, but only with labels on. Point 6 - Would be great to have (perhaps available on the rearm/refuel page) but to be honest I already got used to fixed convergence (I mainly fly the Spitfire). Point 7 - I don't remember how it works right now, but I think that you can select your own presets on the rearm window. If so, then I'd rather choose them each time I start than automatically start with my previous loadout. If not then I'd like the option to select my own presets (that could include liveries).

There are many options, for ex. something like a rudder assist, that would dampen your inputs or perform small adjustments. You'd still feel like it's you doing the job and could "brake" the assist by rapid movements (sort of like braking the autopilot in the Hornet).

Just a quick example off the top of my head: Let's say you enjoy DCS but you only have a low-end stick and you can only play for several hours on weekends. You're also a member of a squad and they've set up a cool mission with AAR. Now, without easy AAR you're excluded from the flight. It's a lose-lose situation: you lose because you can't enjoy the mission, your squad loses because they have 1 less person to fly with. Literally no one benefits from not having such a feature.

Wow. The sheer amount of smugness and arrogance in this thread is staggering. Just because you've spent hours practicing AAR and spent life savings on the best hardware on the market doesn't mean everyone has to do it. After all, DSC is a hobby at best, not an exam to get you into the actual Air Force. Just for the record, I always play on max realism and have learned AAR on every plane I own.

Couldn't agree more. Without adequate amount of data all of this is just pointless speculations.

+1 Honestly, IMHO turning on shadows for VR hands would be a good start.

[CANNOT REPRODUCE, TRACK PLEASE] Mach Number on HUD not correct
PL_Harpoon replied to memoric's topic in Bugs and Problems
What was altitude? -
Just to clarify. The thing that bogs down our CPUs are not necessarily scripts, AI, or even simulating the aircraft. It's mostly a thing called "draw calls" - in a nutshell a command generated by the CPU that tells the GPU what to do. The more objects you have on the screen the more draw calls need to be generated by the CPU. You can read more about them here: https://medium.com/@toncijukic/draw-calls-in-a-nutshell-597330a85381 Now, to the OP, I wouldn't count on Vulcan to significantly improve performance. I'd consider a 20% boost a huge success.

True, but you can have twice as much GBU-12s as MAVs.

Despite what some people say here, in order for them to work you need to release the toe brakes before releasing the parking brake lever. Keep in mind that the lever will lock even if the brakes aren't set - the best way to check is the controls indicator and the toe brakes themselves - they should stay pressed.

Not necessarily. From the bomb point of view going against the wind is just like chasing a moving target. So on my picture in trajectory A you aim your laser at the tank and let the bomb chase it. On trajectory B you aim laser at the point where the tank will be at the impact point. Clearly, trajectory B is much more energy efficient. Now, to go back to the wind, if you aim upwind it's just like choosing trajectory b in the picture. My only question is, should the Hornet take the wind into account when calculating release point or not?

I don't think so. AFAIK even the wide FOV has some magnification. BTW, do you guys know if the "zoom" is just a digital zoom and WIDE/NARROW switches between different lenses or do you actually move the lenses?

No axis/keybind for throttle twist sight adjustment?
PL_Harpoon replied to Nealius's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
I think there's an error in the tutorial. As far as I know, the P-47 in DCS doesn't have a throttle twist for ranging. -
All of this makes sense actually. I doubt that LGB's compensate for wind speed when they fall. I was always under the impression that they just keep pointing at the target and adjust for any offset in real time. Sort of like a straight pursuit. That should be enough if the wind is too strong or the target isn't moving too fast. But if those conditions aren't met then the straight pursuit isn't sufficient to keep them on track.

DCS Mi-8 is 7 years now, time for an update ?
PL_Harpoon replied to Hueyman's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Well... we did get an updated P-51 ...and updated KA-50 ...and updated A-10 what's so outrageous about asking for an updated Mi-8?
