You must have misread my post, I did have DCS with the PICO running without Steam VR and also without having to replace Open vr in the DCS folder. I just fired up the xr toolkit, opened open composite and put DCS to open with open composite. Fired up VD opened up the BIN file in DCS through VD and clicked on the DCS exe. DCS then opened up without Steam VR starting. The thing is in Flight Guys video when the task bar is clicked to open up the Folder to select the BIN file, a pop up error occurs and is dismissed, that used to happen for me too but the pop up no longer appears. I am guessing that the VD update is the reason why I cannot get it to work anymore.

I downloaded the open XR toolkit and opencomposite, (Followed FlightGuy's video) and DCS world worked without steam VR and it gave a nice upgrade for FPS. I didn't fire up DCS for a few weeks and in the meantime there was a DCS update, a VD update and a PICO update and now I cant get openxr toolkit / open composite to work without Steam opening. I formatted my computer in October just after I got the PICO to get rid of all the Oculus software so oculus runtime would also stop kicking in. So open composite/openxr toolkit was great while it worked but now it just comes up with an error saying something like no HMD and I have now uninstalled and got rid of any open xr stuff in the regedit file and on my computer.

Hey Flight Guy, Real DCS Pilot, I haven't fired up DCS for a couple of weeks, I just upgraded to the Blackshark lll and fired up DCS and Open composite doesn't seem to work anymore, I am just wondering if it is still working OK for you. Cheers.
-
Thanks, RealDCSpilot I am able to run all but the Apache and Black shark at much higher settings now I don't have to use SteamVR,

So I reset my phone and got everything working again, the Pico app is not going on my phone again. Do not trust it at all. A big thanks to Flight Guy, DCS now runs without Steam and what an improvement. Thanks mate.

Just a heads up, so this morning I had a push notification on my mobile about the Pico Black Friday sale, so I logged into the Pico app on my phone to check it out. Anyway, later on I enabled Wi-Fi on my phone to check my banking app and a load of texts came through from my friends and family. I replied to a text, and it wouldn't send, so I enabled Wi-Fi, and it sent the message. WTF maybe the network is down. Nope network is up, I did a soft reset on my phone and the texts still wouldn't send unless I enabled Wi-Fi. Then I remembered about the Pico message, so I deleted the Pico app and now my messages send normally. Thats some scary sh** right there. Edit, So now I can't receive texts unless I enable Wi-Fi, but I can send them normally. Headset is going back.

I am coming from a CV1 Gruman, and yes, the clarity is in a different class with the Pico, I have read that there isnt much difference between the Pico and Quest 2 though Flight guy, as Mr Sukabe says you need to buy VD through the downloaded Pico app on your mobile phone and install it to your headset, I have seen people say they have sideloaded the store purchasing app onto their headset to bypass the mobile phone app. Mainly for people in America where the mobile phone app doesn't work. This is a reply I had to the same question Virtual desktop on Steam simply sends an image of your desktop into your SteamVR HMD. It was also one of the best VR media players back in the early days, though I think Heresphere has it beat today. This wireless tethering was never the original intent behind Virtual Desktop and when first introduced for the Quest caused a bit of a quarrel between the developer, the users and Facebook:

Hey Gruman, the usability of the Pico 4 is spot on in DCS. I use Virtual Desktop and it worked straight away. as simple as my Rift when I first used it. If you prefer the Pico Streaming software, then it takes a few times to get working (in my case anyway) as Steam keeps saying it cannot find a headset. I tried USBc tethered and wireless through the Pico Streaming software and it is OK when Steam finally picks up the headset. I have had to drop Steam VR to 60% to fly the Apache and in game IPD to 1.0, but I can have Steam at 100% with any other module. It shows 90 FPS in VD and 45 FPS in game, no lagg, no ghosting and no noticeable latency for me, if I turn my head quickly from side to side, I am talking whiplash speed, then I do get a bit of black creeping in at the edge of my screen. I have only tried the free flights in the modules I have, as I don't fly DCS much anymore. Just for reference, I have a MSI 2080 Duke OC, and I run VD on high setting, 100 MP/s and SSW always enabled. It runs at 866 Mb/s wireless. When I do the free flights, even though I have reduced in game IPD, MSAA, A/F, Textures, well basically every setting going to get a decent framerate, it still looks clearer and better than the Rift. I also formatted my computer to get rid of all Oculus stuff. Only downside is star wars squadrons doesn't run through VD anymore as I think it needs Oculus runtime, but it runs through the Pico streaming software. I guess buying the Pico is the same as everything else (was it made on a Friday afternoon), I see a few people on sites complaining about ghosting, there is a bit on the Pico home screen for me, but Elite Dangerous, in space, where you would think there would be ghosting as all your surrounding is black, there is no ghosting at all. In fact I have not seen ghosting in any game. It does take a while to get the best Frame rate as you think turning down everything will make it look crap, but surprisingly as I said it still looks crisper, sharper and clearer than my Rift.

I was having the C0000005 crashes every time I tried to overclock my GFX card. Have you tried undervolting your card?

I thought I had clicked on the patch notes discussion thread, but I must have clicked on the meaningless post and speculation thread.

Here's something I found You can get USB Tethering Enabled on the Pico 4 and use Virtual Desktop wired! This really helped shave a few ms off of latency and really helped reliability. The trick is to get your Pico 4 into USB debugging mode (tapping the software version a few times, then going to Developer in the Pico 4). Then, connect a USB 3.0 cable and run this adb command: adb shell am start -n com.android.settings/.TetherSettings && adb shell input keyevent 20 && adb shell input keyevent 20 && adb shell input keyevent KEYCODE_ENTER && sleep 2 && adb shell input keyevent 4 That will enable USB tethering, which Windows 10 should see a new network is connected. Virtual Desktop will prioritize this connection -- you can even turn off wireless after connecting with Virtual Desktop to save on some battery. I recommend putting that adb command in a .bat file to make it super easy to apply.

Hey Lensman, I open up Steam on my PC (I don't have it set to start with windows), put on my headset and then open Virtual Desktop on my Headset, (I have Virtual Desktop set to open with windows. you probably know these things, but I am just going through my process) if Virtual desktop menu screen disappears press the button with the 3 lines on it on the left-hand controller to bring it back into view, then I click start Steam VR, then the press the button on the left controller with the 3 lines on it and a window opens on my headset with the games showing, I then just point and click with the controller to whichever game I want to play. Or same process, open Steam in windows, put on headset, open Virtual Desktop, if Virtual desktop menu screen stays on press the button with the 3 lines to make it disappear so you can just see your normal desktop, then I point to the steam icon on my taskbar and click the controller, it doesn't bring up steam just a pop-up menu, click on library with the controller, which brings up steam in your library mode, then click on AMS2 then play, then choose launch with Steam VR mode. Hope you like the Pico as much as I Edit I had the same problem with F1 22 (bought on Origin) it would start then freeze before I could do anything, I did the drastic thing of removing all oculus stuff off my PC and now it works. One thing you could try is go into documents, AMS2 and you will see 2 graphics configs, one for oculusdx11 and one for openxrdx11, try deleting the oculus one.

5 Days with my Pico 4 I have tested all my games apart from Assetto Corsa. I have a VDSL combo, with Virtual desktop set to 90 FPS, medium graphics using HEVC, SSW on, and Steam VR @ 100% I am getting 866 Mb/s which is running Elite dangerous at Epic VR settings @ 90 FPS in Virtual desktop, Il2 at Ultra settings @ 90 FPS in Virtual desktop, and DCS world with 1.0 PD High settings 2xMSAA and 8X AF @ 80 to 90 FPS in Virtual Desktop depending on the Map, (I cannot get the Apache to run well on any setting), all running smooth, no stutter, all clear and bright. ACC runs well but doesn't look the best with ghosting and it is too sharp, RF2, AMS2 and F122 are all 90 FPS no stutter and all clear and bright. I tried the Pico Streaming software both wireless and USB, picture is too dark, latency too high so it needs a bit of work, I tried RF2 55FPS, and ACC was too dark and a worse picture, so I won't be using the Streaming software for a while, hopefully Pico will work on it. I leave my USB cable in whilst I am playing so it gives the batteries a bit of a charge while I am playing. These are just my experiences with the Pico 4 and the VR games I play, personally I am glad I bought the Pico as it runs the games just as good as my Rift but with 2160 x 2160 resolution and a huge, sweet spot. YMMV Edit Just to confirm (as some people tend not to read posts before answering), I am using Virtual Desktop and Virtual Desktop only with the settings above. My USB cable is plugged in for battery charge only.

Mr_sukebe, did you manage to get Steam VR to recognise your headset using the Pico Streaming software, I have tried both wired and wireless and Steam doesn't want to recognise my headset. I have downloaded Pico link for my PC and also through Steam and it is still a no go.
-
I have had my Pico 4 since late Tuesday night. I tried with the Pico streaming software and the Steam Pico link but it would not recognise my headset, so I downloaded Virtual Desktop. I am not into all the ins and outs of charts and graphs so this is just how my eyes see it through VD wireless with a VDSL combo Wi-Fi 5. DCS looks absolutely stunning. it's like going from VHS to Blu-ray, the FOV doesn't seem much different to the Rift, but the sweet spot is 80+ percent of the lens, same DCS settings as my rift I am getting 36 FPS and 72 over water, with no stutters that is with 72 FPS set in VD. If I set it to 90 FPS in VD then I only get 30 FPS courtesy of my RTX 2080. Tested both the Hog and Blackshark, Steam VR set to 100%, and 1.3 set in DCS. Il2, 90 FPS in VD and again the clarity is amazing, no stutters, so the video I saw referred to above in the Pico 4 thread which made me cancel my pre order (before I pre ordered it again the next day) IMO doesn't do the Pico 4 justice, but then again, I don't do commercial flying. I just tried Elite Dangerous and the rocks at the extraction sites have never been as crisp or clear, and the left panel to choose where you are going, every word is sharp, there is frame lagg in ED, but I am still using the same settings with everything cranked up which I used to try and get my Rift sharper. I tried ACC briefly and that too was clearer with no stutters, but there was a lot of ghosting, like 5 taillights as the car in front disappeared round the corner, again same settings as I used for the rift, so I have a bit of playing around to do with the GFX settings. I have a USB link cable coming in a few hours, so see how I go with it. I only play PCVR so I can't comment on the standalone part, but up to press I am over the moon with the Pico 4 clarity compared to my Rift. The only thing I dislike about the Pico is I have to use Steam VR for everything, Steam VR is sh**.

Not the best in the Pico 4 unless you go for low settings. Maybe the Pico dongle will be able to do the full 9.6Gb/s through Wi-Fi which would make it better.
-
Big let down on the Pico 4, no link cable for PCVR, just a wireless dongle to be announced and only 105 FOV. Decent specs though 2160x2160 pancake lenses with a big, sweet spot. Pass through camera, motorised IPD. So, great I guess if you want to play beatsabre. Maybe the wireless dongle might surprise me, just have to wait for the reviews.
-
Yes nukeproof the neo 4 definitely looks like a contender, I wonder what the pancake lenses are going to be, maybe edge to edge clarity ? but the 2160 x 2160 is up there with the G2 and possibly a wider FOV. Here we go The difference between pancakes lenses and current fresnel lenses found on VR headsets - VR Expert Blog (vr-expert.com)
-
So after a bit of digging, it seems the single lcd binocular only has 3 IPD settings, the pico neo 4 and 4 pro looks like it is coming in September, the pro to equal the meta cambria with hand and face tracking. The pico neo 4 looks like it will have 2160 x 2160 resolution but with pancake lenses instead of Fresnal. Things are looking good in the VR market
-
I stumbled upon this yesterday while looking around the net "pico neo 3 link", the specs look exactly the same as a quest 2 but they are £100 cheaper and come with the link cable. I have watched the you tubes on it but there aren't many so I am not sure on clarity and sweet spot. Is anyone here using one ? Also just wondering are there any benefits from say the G2 having 2 x lcd binocular and the pico or quest2 having single lcd binocular.
-
Thanks all for the replies, looks like I am going to go for the G2, I have just seen on the HP USA store, labour day sale G2 V2 $399, an ex girlfriend just blew into town so I told her I was going to New York for 2 weeks, "so I could avoid seeing her", wish I had gone now, could be coming back with a G2.
-
Thanks, the reverb g2 is the one I keep coming back to, but it grates me that in America you could get it for about $450 last year or the year before and here it is still nearly £600. Quest 3 is going back to OLED but is probably over a year away. Just trying to prioritise what I am going to buy, VR headset, DD wheel base or a 3080 12 gig, everything I am using at the minute works, but I could have better, and it could be more immersive, but everything I have at the minute works, yeah, yeah, you all know the conversation you have in your head.
-
This is a nightmare, I was waiting for the deca gear but it looks like that will be a no go, so was going to get the meta quest 2 seeing as a facebook account is no longer pushed on you, but they have gone up a hundred pounds, reverb g2 sounds the best for the price but I am concerned about the sweet spot and the clarity out of the sweet spot. The reason I was considering the cosmos elite is because the headset has dropped to 349 pounds on Amazon for the headset only.
-
I am using a rift CV1 but would like a bit more clarity, If I am only playing DCS, Elite dangerous and car racing sims, do I need the base station and the controllers with the cosmos elite or can I get away with the headset only. Thanks
