[REPORTED]Ears roaring without pulling any G-forces
Bearskin replied to Hammer1-1's topic in Bugs and Problems
I haven't flown the mustang for over a year, so when I did the Normandy free flight about 10 minutes ago and got the rumbling sound I was checking all the gauges, flaps. landing gear, so good to hear it was not my flying that caused it. -
Great news Ratfink, happy flying mate.
-
I seem to be getting the same performance, did a quick free flight in the A10c on PG and getting a steady 45 in VR. I did turn on SSLR to see what it did and took a 33% hit on FPS down to 30. I also did a free flight in the HUEY on Caucuasus and a train in the distance looked funny. I closed my right eye and it disappeared closed my left eye and it was back again. The world did seem to be a lot clearer and brighter so I am happy with the new 2.5.6. I have noticed it takes a lot longer to start up, and Task manager saying DCS is not responding, just wait it out and it starts OK.
-
Come on everyone, stop downloading the patch, 5 minutes and I haven't hit 1% yet

+1 saying user name and password were wrong, started the update manually.

Great setup Ratfink, you should have many years of gaming with that rig. Might see you in the skies one day mate when you decide to have a dabble on line. For the cooler when you decide to upgrade, https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07XLM5FV8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 I went with the liquid freezer 240 as it had 4 fans for push, pull but you cant get it anymore, if your case is big enough you could go for the same as mine but 6 fan setup, or add another 2 fans to the one in the link.

Here's something to lighten the mood away from politics https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=raving+to+the+benny+hill+theme&&view=detail&mid=87032ACC0AA8BD8D8A1D87032ACC0AA8BD8D8A1D&&FORM=VDRVRV

GunSlingerAus, mate, give it a rest. You are like one of those dolls where you pull a string in their back, mama, mama ,mama. You lost it when you started insulting people for having a differing opinion than yours. "rabid virtual fan boys" "super-fans". I thought this was a forum for mature people, but you are bringing it down to the level of a Steam forum. You go play DCS on your monitor, and I will go play DCS on my Rift. Simple as that.

Have you tried clocking your 3770k a bit more, I see you are using a track ir, if I was still using my track ir I would still be rocking my GTX970, the only reason I went to a 2080 is because I went down the VR route, and that is the only reason I am contemplating a cpu upgrade with more memory. I can still play F1 2019, BF5, Modern warfare, all the non VR games on my 27 inch 1080p 144 Hz monitor at full settings. Have a go at getting a bit more out of your ivy bridge see how it is, the 10th gen is not too far away and hopefully the 9th gen will drop in price. I know this is my board but it could give you some tips, I have had mine to 4.6 stable but I stuck to 4.5 in the end, I see you have got yours to 4.2 so you know the drill, small increments. https://rog.asus.com/articles/guides/overclocking-guide-4-7ghz-core-i7-3770k-on-the-maximus-v-formula/ Found one for your board

Jasonbirder, ED work on bug fixes, there are thousands of combinations of computer setups used by people that play DCS. So what works on the ED systems might not work on the thousands of different setups of users computers. So the bug fixes and patches get brought out to the open beta, people who have the open beta are willing to share what works and what doesn't, so then ED can go back and remedy what isn't working, then send it to open beta again. When everything gets ironed out, it then gets brought out in the stable version. So you could get 3 or 4 updates to the open beta, to just one update to the stable version So if you want bug free gaming stick to the stable, if you want updates as soon as they are released, get the open beta. You choose what you want, simple as that.

About 10 minutes 10 seconds in Ratfink

Running stock, it should be fine, the 3770K was one of the hottest CPU's made. Different board but you should have a bracket that came with your cooler to fit the new board, unless they used the same spaced holes. They also used a different thermal liquid on the 9th gen cpu's so they should run cooler. Did you see the price of the KF version on the 15th December £197.88.

Ratfink, have a look at the 9700KF same as the 9700K but with no iGPU, might save yourself 20 quid.
-
I would definitely go for 32 gig of RAM as the consensus on this forum says 32 is a must for online gameplay on DCS, the price of the 9700k looks good on the site you linked, as direct from Amazon it is £370 (I am not keen on buying from third party sellers) With the memory 2 things to look out for is speed and the timings, I have 1600 DDR3, I over clocked it once to 1866 like yours, but my timings @ 1600 are 9,9,9,24, and to clock it to 1866 I had to change the timings to 10,9,10,27. So with slower timings, it was really defeating the purpose of over clocking. So faster speed and lower timings are better, but I can't see there being much difference when playing games.

Ratfink, I have got a mate who is also in the running for an upgrade, he has a i5 4670k and a maximus Vll hero board. I have been through all the pros and cons with him , like how the 9600k and 9700k have a lot higher usage, and temps, they have even more than the 8700k. So H/T is a big deal, imo anyway. So after giving my mate all the pros and cons he nearly switched to AMD, but I pulled him back from the brink and he is pulling the trigger on a i9 9900k and a Aorus Master Mobo next week . I was the same as you, upgrading every 18 to 24 months, but everything seems to have stagnated for the last 6-7 years, as though the ceiling has been reached but now they are just making the ceiling bigger and not higher. Now VR is here and 8k monitors something needs to change pretty quick.

Bitmaster, true the AMD cpu's are definitely the choice at the moment for price to performance, I just can't bring myself to swap to team red. Its like growing up in Australia, you were either Holden or Ford, I always had Holden's. GFX cards, AMD or Nvidia, always had Nvidia apart from a ATI HD4870 which I mentioned in another post, the only part that has ever failed on me out of maybe 25 years of building computers, pepsi or coke, allways drank coke, the full fat stuff too, none of this diet stuff. So at the moment I am stuck, as the i7 9900k is too expensive, the i7 9700k and i5 9600k haven't got H/T and the 8700k is soon to be 2 generations old, the comet lake I will probably need to spend another few hundred pounds on top to get a new PSU and a new AIO. On the other hand the 9900k might drop to £350 when comet lake comes out, and the only thing comet lake has is a new iGPU which I wont utilise anyway. So its a waiting game to see what the 10*** series comet lake brings to the table and how that effects the 9*** series pricing. Sorry if I have made you as undecided as I am Ratfink, but hopefully I have given you some food for thought. TBH I will probably end up getting the above mentioned mobo and memory, and also a 9900K, but hey its only money.

Not really, H/T is more for work, like video editing, photo editing, stuff with multi tasking, but I recall last week seeing a game coming out which under recommended specs mentioned hyper threading. A lot of people turn off H/T in the bios and swear it makes games quicker, gives them more FPS, but I have always left H/T enabled on my 3770k which I am sure you have too. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-163301-Vengeance-Performance-Desktop/dp/B016ORTNI2/ref=pd_ybh_a_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=QRX164J89S6WNM994DRY https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07HRVGDY3/ref=twister_B07Z847T4Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 From what I have read, the Aorus boards seem to have the best VRM out of the Z390 boards, but the BIOS is not the easiest. I hate to swap from the ROG boards (first one I had was the Rampage Formula) but the maximus Xl formula is too much, I only paid £200 for my MVF so I cant pay £380 for the MXlF. I want to hopefully future proof myself for another 8 years so I cant see myself buying a CPU with no H/T. Edit Even this board, https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gigabyte_z390_aorus_pro_review,19.html, thermals seem great on this as there looks to be no difference even when overclocked. £70 cheaper too

I am thinking the same Ratfink, here is the mobo I probably will end up with Aorus Z390 AORUS ULTRA. and the memory, Corsair 163301 Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4 3200 MHz C16 XMP 2.0. The memory drops to around £120 every now and again on Amazon. I just cant pull the trigger though, a 9700k with no H/T. I see from benchmarks it is within touching distance of the 9900K but so is the i5 9600k for £190, now that is a big saving from £450 for the 9900k. The i7 10700k is due out in a few months but looks like it will use more power 135w as against 95w. So maybe the 8700k 6 core 12 threads, still a great cpu but similar price as a 9700k 8 core 8 threads which is newer. 10700k could be around the £330 mark but I would need a new psu and maybe a new AIO unless they bring out a bracket. I will probably wait a few more months until comet lake is out and see what the prices are then.

When's the apache coming

I am with you mate, I haven't even read what is coming out in 2020, I just start DCS and enjoy the game.
-
I cant agree with this mate, I am running on a 7+ year old machine with a Rift and I am more than happy with the performance, even on multiplayer with 20+ aircraft flying. Sure I have a 2080 now but DCS was still OK with my 970 for the 6 months with the Rift before I upgraded to the 2080. I am itching to upgrade as I used to build a new PC every 18 to 24 months, but my PC at the moment still plays everything I want to play, at good frame rates too.
-
TBH mate, none, I didn't even know it was not enabled until I checked. I did enable image sharpening last night, opened up the software that gave me the same problem as you are having, but everything was fine, (I didn't reboot my machine so it might not have taken effect) so maybe only the 441.12 drivers had this problem.
-
I wrote in my first reply that switching to 441.66 drivers stopped the graphical anomalies but then I remembered I had enabled image sharpening in NVidia control panel on my previous driver. I checked NVidia control panel last night and Image sharpening wasn't enabled on this driver. So either switching drivers or not enabling Image sharpening, one or the other must have fixed it for me.
