  1. Mission 2 Issue. So, I've just spent 90 minutes doing a pretty cool BARCAP - successfully tanked off Arco, then intercepted the IL-76. Returned to racetrack, then got the call to intercept the boats. Headed to the bearing I was given, and descended to 5000'. Thought I should go a bit lower to get a better look, so descended to 1000'. After a few minutes of nothingness, thought I'd better head back up to 5000' in case I'd broken a trigger. Jester then says we should head to 1200', fly bearing 315, and use PAL to try to get a lock. I do so, continue to fly for 20 minutes, then hit the shore of the land in front of me. No boat. An hour and a half of mission behind me, and I can't progress. What did I do wrong? Btw, I don't know how to RIO - is that necessary for this campaign?
  2. Any chance we can get the BRC Course control added? When flying in close formation it can be really hard to change this via mouse.
  3. Yes, we know you can do that - but moving the FOV back to allow more of the cockpit to be seen causes external objects to be rendered at a different distance. So while my wing leader can clearly see the carrier group or a bogey, I can not. And if you move the character's head position, it totally screws up the HUD and the windows. For those of us running much larger monitors (55" for me), it'd make sense to have the view point set further back - ie, do exactly the same thing as moving the zoom slider back, *but* it shouldn't then also cause external objects to disappear/be rendered further away. I'm currently doing a slightly wonky workaround - at the start of a mission, I lean my head forwards, center trackIR, then sit back in my normal position. I then have to move my in-game cockpit seat upwards to allow me to see more of the HUD. It's not ideal, but it's the best solution for the moment.
  4. Take a look at the Hornet and Falcon to see what, I think, is a better position. Currently we can't even see our altimeter without zooming out, and thus making bogies look smaller.
  5. That the default viewing angle for the Tomcat matches the Hornet and Falcon - which appear to be much further back. That way I don't need to use my FOV slider, and thus make all external objects smaller than they need be.
  6. Btw, I've started having some fun in the Falcon - that has a much better default viewing angle, allowing me to see all the major displays. Seems much further back than the Tomcat?
  7. I'm in the exact same situation as you - I have the best PC hardware available on the market, and despite doing all the tweaks, couldn't find a satisfactory balance of image quality and performance with my G2. So I now fly in 2D. I do not think you'll have a different experience with the Vive Pro 2 whatsoever; some of us just don't enjoy the current VR experience, while many others do. I'd suggest revisiting DCS VR in a couple of years when and if we have big leaps forward in PC horsepower or DCS multithreading.
  8. A cheap track ball will do the job nicely as well - stick it to the arm of your chair or HOTAS mount.
  9. As bigger displays become more affordable, flyers like me (55" screen) will want to see more of the cockpit. However, using the zoom slider to zoom backwards and increase the FOV makes external objects render at further distances, putting at me at a distinct disadvantage. If I use the right ctrl+right shift+numpad keys to move my pilots head, the HUD and mirrors become unusable (this is in the Tomcat). I'd love to be able to see more of my cockpit without being disadvantaged, and without the glitches with the HUD and mirrors.
  10. I bought two Lenovo E10 and E7 tablets - cheap and work perfectly.
  11. Yep, you're right - the windows and HUD scale very weirdly when doing this. I don't think it's doable at the moment, so I guess dot labels will have to make do.
  12. If you want the best possible clarity, I believe the G2 is the HMD to buy. However, it requires a monster PC to get relatively average performance - even my behemoth ain't good enough for my needs.
  13. Is there a feature I need to turn on to notice the new burble and hook effects? Prior to the patch, I was rather rubbish at landings, usually hitting the one wire, but have yet to screw up a landing with the new patch. Maybe I'm not quite as rubbish as I thought I was?
  14. Thank you so much - this issue has plagued me for bloody ages. I was initially trying to find a lua tweak that would change my default FOV to be further back, but after a few months I realised this totally screwed with the external rendering distance of objects. I didn't realise why I couldn't see objects that other players could see perfectly. Being able to move the head back to expose more of the cockpit without changing LOD/render distance of external objects will be a massive boon for me, so thanks again. Now to figure out how to make it permanent!
  15. As a user of a 55" display, I find the default FOV to be way too narrow - I always zoom back until I can see the top of the HSD in my FOV when looking straight ahead. However, this causes external objects to not be rendered until I'm at a closer physical distance than if I was using the default FOV. So ships, scenery and aircraft aren't rendered until I'm several miles closer than if I was using the normal, zoomed in FOV. Is there a way to "decouple" my cockpit FOV from the external rendering distance? With larger displays becoming more affordable, I think we'll start to see more users wanting to see more of their cockpit, without being at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to external visibility.
  16. Update- got it to start working by running a Steam repair.
  17. Yep, I've tried it with today's patch, and the issue is still occurring for me. My initial spawn into a mission is fine, but if I then choose a new F-14 slot after landing/crashing/whatever, DCS freezes totally. No crash log created at all.
  18. I googled "DCS F14 VA profile", which led me here: Bailey's F-14B VoiceAttack Profiles - DCS: F-14A & B - ED Forums (eagle.ru) And yep, it's the wrong damned version! That'll explain what's going on then. Thanks mate!
  19. I updated to today's patch (17th June), overswept wing model still exists - this was on Syria Instant Action Case 1 Recovery.
  20. Ok, just tested again with today's patch - still crashes the game, with a DCS.exe not responding error. It seems you guys are referring to this as a freeze. No new log file created.
  21. Hey Bailey, so I've followed your PDF instructions - I'm unsure though what this means, and whether it's causing the issue I have: "You can import F14BPilotKeyboard.diff.lua and F14BRioKeyboard.diff.lua if you wish." Will that change any of my joystick controls if I import them? I'm hoping not, as having to redo all that again will be a time consuming affair. Also, what is the exact command I can issue Jester to get him to tune Radio 2 to a specific channel? Btw, here's what VA looks like when I try "Jester Tune Channel X". It recognises some of the phrases, some not.
  22. I missed this in the patch notes - do you mind explaining what it does? I freaking hate dots/labels, but being a 4K user it seems they're absolutely necessary to maintain SA.
  23. Nope, wingmen should never, ever, never, never use autopilot to maintain formation, at least in very close range. There's just no way to ensure you're on the exact same plane of movement as lead when you engage it, so you will either crash into them, or fall out of formation. Lead can use it all day long... lucky buggers!
  24. That is my most recent crash, even though the crashes started happening on the 15th June. It seems it's such a severe crash that DCS isn't even generating a crash log. I enter the mission, fly as per usual, then when I select another slot to respawn a new aircraft, DCS totally hangs. I have to control+alt+delete to shut down DCS, and even this sometimes doesn't work, requiring a hard reboot to get my PC back in order. I've tested approximately 10 other games since doing the new PC build, and everything else runs flawlessly, as well as running multiple hours of stress-test benchmarks. The fact it only happens when choosing a new slot, and is 100% reproducible, strongly suggests it's a DCS-specific issue. Will do some more testing today with the latest patch, and joining slots in multiplayer servers.
