Debden Eagles - New P-51D Campaign Announcement
Art-J replied to Reflected's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Release video posted by Reflected today says Normandy in the description, so I'm pretty sure 2.0 is recommended at least (albeit maybe it could work on N "1.5" as well). -
does the rudder get affected by force?
Art-J replied to FlyingCoffin's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Not at my PC at the moment but the fastest way to tell is checking what indicator says when you're stationary on the ground. Rudder is not hydro-boosted in Sabre, so yes, it probably gets limited by airflow like in other modules. -
If you're talking about distant layers jumping slightly up and down then yes, it's a DCS thing since new clouds tech was introduced in Spring 2021. Apparently it's more or less noticeable depending on players resolution, screen vs VR etc., but it's always there to some extent. I know it's difficult to un-see it once you saw it, but get used to it, there's no fix.

Are you sure you've got the latest A-4 package (2.2 Oct 27th) installed? I've never used that mod, but out of curiosity just downloaded it, installed and tried it in latest Open Beta. A couple of random cold start and free flight instant action missions (Caucasus, Nevada, Marianas) + ramp start fast mission on Caucasus - they all loaded correctly without issues. Most likely some other outdated mod (not 2.9-compatible anymore) interferes with A-4. Disable all the others and try the Skyhawk alone. In either case, zip and post your DCS logs (found in Saved Games/DCS/Logs) here, otherwise there's no way to figure out what's going on.

Biggin is currently inop even for player aircraft, yet alone AI ones. I wouldn't waste time on finding workarounds until next OB patch to be honest.
-
No idea to be honest. Kurfy has indeed been programmed somewhat different compared ot other DCS warbirds in this regard. Looks like they experimented with this special option feature only once for this module and didn't expand it later.

We know nothing about Hellcat project apart from the fact that it has started last year as teased in ED's "2023 and beyond" video. So it might be anywhere between 2 and 3 years off. You can follow F4U progress on Magnitude3 section of the forum, although these guys are always rather tight lipped about their projects. Rudel has been posting many neat screenshots in recent months, however, which suggests we might get the plane next year. No updates on their carrier, though, so it's uncertain if it's going to make it on time together with the plane, or what functional features it's going to have. F8F is still a private mod attempt I believe, so whether it ever sees light of day remains to be seen. No updates from ED for a long time about their WWII version of Marianas, so nobody knows how it's going to be distributed and if it's going to be a free map in the first place.

Can confirm the same thing (without double assignments and assists). Anyone can by launching the game with controllers unplugged, starting any free flight mission in K-4 and enabling ctrl indicator. Diamond will be offset by a tiny bit in roll axis. Never really noticed it till now despite owning the module since its release, but it seems to be there indeed. I don't remember if it was all those years ago. Since the diamond symbol represents virtual stick position affected by trims and airflow, the only explanation I can think of is that "0" set in special options does not really mean a flush tab, but it's a start/reference measured relative to a tab surface which is already bent a little at some unspecified angle (and that one is hardcoded, we don't have access to it).

If you're interested in econo-cruising with reduced power and no warning sound, just get boost to 7 first and then drop rpm to 2000 or below. That will push boost down to 4-4.5 without beep.

not planned Re-adding the arcade mode from Black Shark {2008} ?
Art-J replied to johntitor's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Why would they, though? Game flight mode is still there in DCS, although ED has been considering removing it, as it seems to be causing more harm than good. They decided to remove the avionics one last year or so for the same reasons so it's unlikely they'll ever want to develop something similar again. -
Not difficult to forget about it After all, It's been sort of announced already when modern version was released in summer 2021, but progress on it has always been a bit on a slow side.

^ That's pretty much it. During past two decades A-10 played an important role in all asymmetric conflicts where it was engaging towelheads with not much of a AAA capability whatsoever. It excelled at that job, noone denies that. Nowadays, though, geopolitical situation is changing. With tension between 3 superpowers increasing, even if direct conflict between them doesn't come (hopefully!), proxy conflicts between more equal opponents will involve more and more advanced AAA equipment being used on both sides. Ukraine conflict seems to show that already, with Thunderbolt's red brothers, Su-25s not being able to do much (on both sides really) despite flying as low and fast as possible. Damn, even Su-34s can't operate there easily and freely.

I would first do some solo "torture testing" - advanced low speed, high power aerobatics at high ambient temps. Slow reaction of radiator flaps used to be a major issue indeed before last year revamp of cooling system. Nowadays, however, the plane is more idiotproof (less prone to overheating) and, in my opinion, fiddling with manual adjustments is usually not necessary anymore. "Open" and "auto" idea could work. Granted, these are still 4 inputs total (3 if used with modifier?). Moreover, you still need to flip both covers open, but I guess you could do it once with a mouse at the beginning of each mission, though.

Unless Win11 handles driver updates differently than Win10, I'd avoid GFExperience like a plague. Always preferred manual method in 10 but hey - if GFE works for OP, it works. Problem has been solved and that's the most important thing.
-
No it doesn't . The light might be out, but it doesn't work until you flip the switch. Nav and recognition lights have no purpose in SP missions whatsoever (unless Reflected somehow made them usable in his scripted campaigns, I don't know that). In multiplayer - I guess it depends on your squad buddies. P.S - Not sure about mixture lever either. I seem to recall it cannot be assigned to analog physical axis (as the virtual one only has three fixed positions). Not directly in DCS at least. I suppose one can kind of make it work with axis by using joystick gremlin or other 3rd party app.

Help should I buy 4070TI or 7900XTX?
Art-J replied to Flameout777's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
With 4090s getting snatched for new gold rush (AI farms) recently, their availability (and thus pricing) for us gamers will probably be getting worse rather than improve in near future . Waiting for them might not be the best solution then. I don't have experience with these two cards you mention, though. Look around this and VR forum section, some folks use them. -
^ I'm sure you meant and wanted to highlight airspeed impact on cooling system efficiency, but dear God, calling Merlin and Jumo "air cooled" engines is so wrong it hurts .
-
Is such "static" mission time even a thing in DCS? Just curious - I've never experienced sun not moving in my 9 years of playing this sim.
-
^ It's all correct, of course, but... mostly off-topic and irrelevant for OP's issue. Which is - how both 190s, as equipped and simulated in DCS can (or cannot) be used against its AI or human adversaries in DCS. Whatever happened in real life about front lines, fuel, pilots training etc. in '44-'45 doesn't apply here. The intermittent engine failures problem of Dora is being investigated in its own thread in bugs section. The only thing we can do is more testing, posting tracks and hoping for the issue to be looked at by the devs. Same about AI simplified FMs and weird damage model symptoms.

Looks like the same thing Reflected did in his "V for Victory" campaign, which is: clever use of scripts, triggers, custom voice recordings and tons of time spent in the editor to make all this stuff activate and work in correct order, moments and locations.
-
^ Honestly, I kept my settings as they were and haven't looked for a fix anymore. The pixellation shows only in specific lighting conditions, with specific cloud presets and only when my plane is rolling/pitching fast. All and all, it's not noticeable enough for me in majority of the missions I fly to be bothered by it. It's certainly less noticeable than the problem of micro-jumping cloud layers anyway. IF it's caused by DLAA maybe (which I use), then so be it. Pros outweigh the cons in such case. Granted, I haven't experienced patterns as ugly as shown on pavelpilot's screenshots yet. These must be more somwhow related to cloud preset he used in his mission, but I don't know which one it was.

Finally had a chance to fly a bit yesterday. Not sure how I feel about factory-fresh-black faces of the instruments. They show a lots of contrast agains panels, especially the trim indicator. They tend to look a bit lighter on photos, albeit it might just be a question of reflections in real life vs lighting and shading limitations of DCS gfx engine. Other than that, not being a rivet-counter and RLM colours expert I like that mod a lot already and will certainly spend more time with it.
-
^ Cuesta brothers I'd hazard a guess. Maybe they want to implement similar solution in their flyable mods.

solved Normandy (2.0) - Low poly buildings and missing textures
Art-J replied to dlder's topic in Bugs & Problems
I recall Steam guys did have numerous issues with making the update work correctly when it was first released. Maybe you did buy it but something didn't "click" right. In either case, hey, if it works it works. Glad you've got it sorted.
