Will we be able to fly without these things?
Force_Feedback replied to -akyla-'s topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Seen any pictures of Russian runways? Not even mentioning the taxiways and aprons. Guess dust protectors are at the least mandatory. -

Force_Feedback replied to -akyla-'s topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
But is it possible to fly without them and have that extra 100-200 HP of shaft power? -
That the turbine was already spinning at a sufficient speed for a relight.

In Chechniya crew of struck mi-24s used to jump out with parachutes, some even at 200m after being hit by multiple MANPADS in an ambush near the base, and don't say it would be hard jumping out of an Apache, if it can be done from a Mi-24, then it can de done out of anything, especially if it has detcord running along the side transparencies ;) Kevlar and .50 cal sounds like cardboard and CO2 guns...
-
Still, I'm a bit shocked the Apache has so little regard for the crew's life put into its design, the excuse 'not to get hit in the first place' applies to all choppers, so don't bother using it. The thing was really designed for tank busting, and not for your insurgent/freedom fighter blasting, why are they not up-armoring them for Iraq/Stan/Iran? Take the Ka-50/Mi-28, they have a task similar to the Ah-64, yet they have the best crew protection that is possible without letting the weight go up too much, the Apache's transparencies can handle what? A .22LR, maybe 9mm parabellum soft core? And it has like kevlar for underside protection, man, I believe the Iraqi farmer story, that thing is seriousely underarmored. If the Iraqis has some 12.7mm (Soviet .50 cal) machine guns and some cover those apaches would be in some serious trouble. Do the crew members at least have parachutes, or will the 'they're flying too low' apply in this case?

cant i play with Mig-29 in DCS??
Force_Feedback replied to MigLeader's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
The OVT was originally an old mig-29 with a 'OVT' switch, nothing more. So... can we get the -OVT prototype. -
Su-33KUB ;) TVC, uprated engines (13500/14500kgf), bigger flaps, advanced missiles, and K-36 seats to inspect from up close. -Cons:Semi-classified cockpit (prototype cockpit is not, but it lacks all the MFDs and such)

Dudes, don't start with the ejection handles, it's too tempting, arghhhhh.

Pool question: aircrafts in the DCS plans !

The evil, black Mig-28, with fanatic communist pilots doing some crazy flying scaring the shit out of F-14s -
Hornets deep flyin' & aerial refueling :D

MIG-28 !!!!!!!!!! Mig-31 Firefox, with a new web-based mind control interface and a anti-naughty thought filter installed. -
Heh, maybe it's some Chinese copy with a mirrored tail boom :/

There were even tests with Jaguars catapulted off real carriers, I believe there are some videos on the subject. And then you have the U-2 landing on the Forrestal. It can be done, but not with heavy loads or high speeds or sinkrates.

...stealing personal material..

I remember accusing Tigrou himself (he had a different nick) for ripping off lockon STE when he posted an Orbiter video with the same music and editing :p -
Let's hope no one has a Bofors 40mm AA gun in this game
Force_Feedback replied to Yellonet's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yeah, that would really be an overkill against choppers, why not reintroduce the S-300V, so the ka-50 can show how well it fares against 150kg of high velocity explosives coming in at Mach 7. Just make all the guns working, that is all we need, and not hovering above some enemy IFV without even 7.62mm fire -
Because of the doppler shift of the emissions the seekers get different 'highs' from different directions, making the missile go from side to side, eventually losing the lock, it does not blind them, that would require too much power.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Force_Feedback replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I know you could fire the gun only 8 or 10 times becase of the pyrocartridges used to get the thing going. What about the Indian upgrade, new rwr, one or two mfds, a HUD, pretty nice to see this old dog is still going strong. -
Geier (19:29:39) английский сериал про подростков, траву, секс и т.д. Shalnoi (19:32:31) Какая на хрен трава? Какой секс? Су-25 дайте! Hahahahahaha, but we already have it (and weed as well) in lomac :p That is some impressive damage, but I never actually believed the transparent armor on the Ah-64 was so thing, that's really a bummer. The Ka-50 has some stone age flat 5cm thick glass plates, capable of taking 12.7mm hits (two). The Mi-24 has some thick acrylyc plates as well 3 or 4 cm. And remember boys and girls, that was a portable SAM, an old one. The Iraqi farmer story just got significantly more realistic IMHO.

Question about the planned Apache
Force_Feedback replied to bradmick's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The ka-50 has electronic engine control -
Are those windows made of the same stuf as your ordinary flastic bottle? How come they're so thin? Somebody cheaped out of the crew protection during the design, or did the inner layers somehow became detatched due to the blast wave?

The Rubicon complex, but I'll have to check the literature to be certain.

Keep in mind that the Vikhr was designed as a cheap and reliable missile (They went for a portable ATGM-approach), the high speed was its advantage over other heli launched ATGMs. This approach is continued with the modular HERMES system, with varying booster sections making it capable of engaging targets at either 12, 32 or 100km, the guidance is different too, I don't exactly remember the specifics, but it's the follow-up for the Vikhr (maybe transcripted as Germes, dunno) The cheapo-approach with the Vikhr was done because most targets on the battlefield are not tanks, but infrantry fighting vehicles and other lower value machinery, it would make no sense to engage something with an expensive missile. Also remember that the Vikhr's laser beam is low powered, and not in the same class as a designator or rangefinder, therefor it might not trip the detection threshold of LWRs (but that may be just a rumor).

Maybe with a Ka-50D, Dippable. So that's how they wash them Chinooks
