  1. Yeah, you’er right, there’s no way we could ever get a complicated late Cold War swing wing fast jet with a WSO in DCS. I mean there’s no way you could communicate with it, or it with you. And swing wing is beyond the capacity of the sim anyway. Oh wait I seem to be forgetting something, what could it be??
  2. The Deid has been a major us base in the region for many years, it’s absence on the PG map is odd. Qatar is clearly on the map but not fleshed out, and it should be. The Deid would certainly play a major role in any conflict in the region. Plus I’ve spent a lot of time there and the thought of dropping a GBU-12 into my old AMU fills me with joy. That or doing gun runs on the bra with the A-10. But seriously it’s a big and interesting base in the region, and it’s missing.
  3. Back in the day I would edit the View file for a cockpit view angel of 60-40 degrees. For me this worked best. Now I’m certainly not asking to make that the view range, it works for me but not for everyone. And I do know they have a similar feature on the MI-8, and that is kinda what I want. But I would like to be able to set both the max and min view to whatever we want. This is of cores for flat screen use. I have no idea how view zoom works in VR.
  4. This would be a first day buy for me, if they can pull it off
  5. Yeah it would be “fun” lol. The A-10 would have its mavs though, and if this ever dose happen hopefully there would be AH-1Qs or something with here very own optically guided surprise for those Tunguska. Hell that would be fun. Doing some old school wild Weasel in you F-4 so the CAS guys could clear out the anti CAS systems, and go in after the armor, and infantry. Fuda Gap 1984, Able Archer gone hot.
  6. Point being for most people flying in a simulated combat environment is the draw of combat flight sims. This thread was started to express a wish many of us had. To fly highly realistic models of Cold War era jets in a realistic combat environment. Nobody is telling you how to enjoy DCS, you do you. We litteraly do not care. Also this isn’t a my way or the highway kind of thing. Not one person that’s posted here has said that they wish the late 4th gens weren’t simulated, or that there would be no more. The OP simply expressed there desire for the developers to model more aircraft form the Cold War. It doesn’t even have to be the current Dev teams ether. Six months ago I didn’t even know who Deka Ironworks was. And OctopusG came out of nowhere. My point is The OP, Myself, and apparently many others would like to see modules of the aircraft that would have clashed, over the battle fields where that clash would have occurred, if the greatest stand off in history had gone hot. We, the group wanting older stuff. Don’t really care for all the stand off high tech GPS guided, Fox3 volleying of truly modern warfare. We want to get in close, and guid our own Missiles to target. We want to feel like it was us and not the weapon that won the engagement, and that’s fine. You don’t, and that’s fine to. But I do suspect we represent a pretty substantial group of potential customers. And we’re trying to signl the Devs of our desires. So that’s the point.
  7. You know that the A model of Fulcrum is “Cold War stuff” right? But yes more Cold War would be really cool. And there were a tone of cool jets from several countries. However I to really wish that at least the FC3 Jets could get there systems, and clickable cockpit. But it seems destined not to be.
  8. One A-10A might have something to say about that. But hell yeah Fulda gap would be amazing.
  9. https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/defense/2018-02-06/armed-black-hawk-completes-qualification It says you should call it boring again, lol. Closest thing there is to a western Mi-24. But that’s a really new upgrade. Still it’s far from a boring helicopter, and has seen a shit tone of combat.
  10. One we need to at least start moving to fully modeled ground fighting vehicles. Two were all vertual cool ass fighter pilots, and we need a cool ass virtual ride. Plus with this we could properly drift on the taxi ways.
  11. That’s cool if you can do that, but on my build you cannot. You can set the client to anything you want. But I’m asking ED to make the player position in single player available for any member of the flight, and to have organically generated radio commands for the flight to fallow. Think call for rejoin after takeoff, call to engage bandits when inside parameters, call for rejoin after an engagement, make go to waypoint calls, that sort of thing. And to do it organically as part of the editor. I know there are workarounds, I know most of them. I’m asking Ed to make the workarounds unnecessary. I know this is probably nich, but there’s lots of talk about dynamic campaigns. So singal player is a thing people are doing. As a mostly single player, I think this is something that can be implemented, and would add the the experience. Again I know there are workarounds, I’m asking Ed to look at making them unnecessary as they overhaul the core game.
  12. Also I believe you can switch in flight. I haven't attempted to abandon a functional aircraft in awhile, but I have definitely swapped recently to get revenge on the bot that killed me. At one time you could definitely swap.
  13. Have you tried that? Because I’ve been using the editor since 2009, and the only position that has ever had the player option is the lead. Now you can make a client any position in the flight. But that is super clunky, and the work around I alluded to in the OP. I’m asking for single player to spawn in as a #2, 3, 4. And since there working on a new AI to have the flight lead issues the same basic commands that we issue to them.
  14. Umm, Cold War ended in 1990, so all of that is decidedly Cold War. I will admit the early and middle Cold War has a massive appeal. Korea, Vietnam, and the proxy wars would all be great. And that’s exactly the awesome thing about the Cold War. Depending of time frame early, mid, or late, you could be chasing each other around with guns, or fighting with Fox3s, AIM-154, Fox-1s. It’s all there, and plenty of land and sea action as well. And being able to see that progression would be awesome. They could fleece us for years with new modules, and maps.
  15. Sure, but can you as the player fly a mission as the number two, three, or four member of that flight? I know the new Ai is on the way. And I’ll glad it is, because it is one of the most needed upgrades to DCS. But as I said I want to be able to fly as a member of the flight. Start off as a wingman, move up to an element lead, move up to flight lead. I think this would be a good way to add some progression to a dynamic campaign.
  16. Honestly, after years of the A-10C, I think the pod often gets in the way. If the JTAC pops smoke, look it that area with the good old MK1 eyeball, most of the time you’ll find it. Plus I often place a Huey with WP in these kind of missions. Just bomb the shit out of the WP when it hits. It definitely helps. We need more spotting aircraft in DCS in general. And I would love the ground troops to actually fire WP to mark targets. With the Kiowa coming it will be massively useful in this role, as well as a late Cold War role. It can lase, and mark for you.
  17. I couldn’t agree more with the OP. Plus these are aircraft that actually fought each other. Just look at how popular the Tomcat is, and it’s from this era. Also I can’t be the only one looking at that sexy AI F/A-18A, and thinking I want to fly it. To me it’s just a more interesting time. You still get some stand off PGMs, and Fox ones. But any CAS is gonna be up close and personal. And the air to air is probably gonna end in a merge. Plus MiG-23s, MiG-27s, Su-24s, Su-22s, and Mig-29As dueling with F-14Bs, F/A-18As, A-7Es, F-4Es, F-15As or early Cs, A-10As, and a proper F-16A just gives me goosebumps. Throw in a Fulda Gap, and Kuwait/ Southern Iraq map, and it would be legendary. But as I recently said in this forum, alas it’s not to be.
  18. +1, and once as you get the Ai integration, introduces the feature on the Mi-8, and UH-1H.
  19. As the title says I think it would be good to be able to play as any member of a flight in single player. You can kinda do this now, but it’s clumsy. I would like to see the flight lead make appropriate radio calls, and what not. In campaigns this would give a realistic means of advancement. It would also allow for more flexibility in designing missions. From a play experience you would get the challenge of operating your aircraft while trying to maintain formation. Plus flying number 3 on a level bombing mission, and releasing your weapons on flight lead looks cool as hell. Anyway just a thought.
  20. Yes pleas more flack.
  21. Yeah, SU-30 Makes the most sense as a “red air”/ 4th gen Russian jet. It a jack of all trades, and would do well agents the current set of 4th gen western jets.
  22. Sure it would, but the cost to develop this stuff had to be covered somehow. If we want core features, and more content there has to be incentive to build them. Maybe bundle the pack in with a module from that era. But you have to cover the cost. You want to play on that Vietnam server you gotta buy the required modules. This thing, DCS, has to make money, or it goes away.
  23. Fair enough, and for the record I agree with the original post, mostly. I would buy a medium bomber, hell I would but a heavy bomber, but I expect that the play will get boring/ frustrating quickly. Well unless wether and Atmospherics get a massive upgrade, they kinda are. I mean yes it would be fun trying to wrestle the big bird down on the deck to avoid a Sam site, or hide from interceptors. And I love the idea of early Cold War bombers. Although admittedly it’s not really the same without nukes. But the birds Deka are looking at are very nich. I’ll buy whichever one because the JF-17 is a beast. But there is clearly a desire for intra theater cargo aircraft. And fitting in with what we have the C-27 would be a pretty cool Choice. Having seen them very up close I can say with certainty that they would be a great DCS aircraft. So yeah I’m glad Deka is doing what there doing, but I don’t really care which they choose, although I would rather an early Cold War jet bomber. Something for Mig-15s to escort, something to hunt in my Saber. But there are other “heavies” and other developers.
  24. Nice, hopefully it gets implemented soon.
  25. Yeah, was thinking a failed mission, for starters. On top of what I said in the OP, in a dynamic campaign, you could be “sent home”. Aka the campaign ends, and your vertical “carrier” ends for too many infractions. Maybe you could be assigned “less risky duties”. For example instead of performing deep strike missions, you get assigned to low intensity CAPs. And as missions pass you can earn your way back to the front.
